Chapter 927: A Most Satisfying Small Victory
Shye momentarily glanced at the purple sphere that had materialized behind him soon after Sanada’s unexpected arrival to assassinate the old snake, then refocused on the rows of Soul Warriors before him.
He killed three in succession with just three strikes before resuming his pursuit of Kiin.
Worry inevitably crept into his heart, though.
Shouldn’t it only take Sanada a few seconds to overwhelm and defeat the old blonde wretch in an isolated duel?
His [Fallen’s Wings] was about to time out, and soon after, he decided he would have to retreat.
He was certain no one could stop his mysterious dark swap tactic with the doppelganger.
However, what would happen to the old man if he left him alone amid thousands of Soul Warriors?
Although he and the perished three-thousand elites, captains, and commanders had effectively reduced their numbers to around four thousand Soul Warriors and probably a little over ten thousand Lesser Soul Warriors, such numbers were still overwhelmingly high—especially for a lone old man, powerful as the old terrorist leader might be.
‘Focus!’ Shye told himself, realizing his thoughts were starting to wander.
In such a crucial moment, he had to stay locked onto his target—only then could he even think about making his escape.
And so, he quickly locked his ice-cold gaze on Kiin once more.
He wasn’t going to leave without taking the bastard’s life first.
Kiin likely had only a few life-saving items left, so killing him shouldn’t be too difficult.
With a violent stomp that slightly bent the metallic floor, Shye activated [Dash], bypassing both Primo and Hathor before appearing right in front of his target.
But Fifteenth was ready—another shield in his hand.
This one, however, was evidently of lower quality than the first Shye had destroyed.
This fact was quickly proven, as Shye’s greatswords easily pierced through the shield as though it was mere monster meat, sinking deep into the shield’s center.
If not for Kiin barely managing to step back on time, he would’ve been skewered along with his shield.
Nonetheless, with a firm grip on the defensive equipment, Shye jerked his arms upward, flinging the shield aside and exposing Kiin’s defenses.
He then chased him down again without pause, brandishing both greatswords at the defenseless archer.
But then, Kiin pulled out a dagger and attempted to parry his attack, which partially worked.
While the ratty bastard was able to prevent his head from being sliced clean off his neck, he…wasn’t as good at parrying as he thought he was.
As a result, his wrist was destroyed by the force of Shye’s attack, leaving only his left hand usable.
“You’re persistent!” Kiin cursed, seething with fury.
His feet never stopped moving—if they had, he would have lost his life.
Kiin even had the audacity to feel indignant, inwardly thinking he didn’t deserve to be targeted like this.
He was just doing what his siblings were doing—working to improve his mother’s situation, wasn’t he?
So why was that bastard so angry at him?
Of course, Shye was furious. Not only had he been played for a fool, but he had also genuinely considered the mole a friend, hoping until the very last moment that the traitor would switch sides.
But no.

Instead, Kiin had led Shirley and the others into an almost inescapable trap—an act that utterly enraged Shye.
The moment Kiin endangered Shirley, there was no turning back.
Fifteenth barely dodged another attack by leaning to the side, sidestepping to the left, and desperately backpedaling soon after.
However, not without suffering a minor cut that once again fed the bloodstones used to enchant Shye’s greatswords.
Kiin was fortunate that his eldest brothers were exceptionally skilled in combat, granting him a brief moment to breathe as they intercepted Shye.
However, none of them could fight him head-on for long, so while they managed to stall for time and inflict minor wounds every now and then, the two could only delay the monstrous young hero for less than a second.
Any longer, and they would be risking their own lives.
Such a brief window was nowhere near enough for Kiin.
If there was anything working in his favor, it was that Shye’s significant attribute boost from the [Fallen] skills was about to time out.
Would he make it to that point, though?
Roaring balls of flame and icicle shards flew at him with vicious intent the next moment, forcing him to desperately bend his body around as he backpedaled to dodge, but he, unfortunately, got hit by a few of the icy shards since he prioritized dodging the fireballs.
One clean hit from them, and he would be literally toast, after all.
Fortunately, despite suffering a few painful, icy wounds, he was still standing.
However, that survival was slipping away fast, as the monster behind the projectiles was charging at him full-throttle.
With another violent slash, Shye aimed to split Kiin’s torso diagonally in half.
But the bastard was like a cockroach, conjuring yet another barrier—finally causing Shye’s [Unfazed Heart] to waver in sheer frustration.
Kiin had already used more than twenty life-saving skills and items, yet he still had more.
Shye didn’t stop and charged forward once more. He desperately wished to rip his former friend apart.
Unfortunately, his [Fallen’s Wings] timed out. While he was still inhumanly fast, he was no longer as swift as before.
Kiin burst into mad laughter at the sight.
“HAHAHAHA! In the end, you still failed to kill me!” the bastard taunted, realizing his elder brothers were on their way to help.
Shye was so indescribably angry that he ignored the attacks of the two eldest Hawklings just to continue chasing Kiin.
Perhaps, since they hadn’t expected their attacks to land, they deliberately aimed for his arms and legs to hinder him rather than going for the kill.
Primo’s divine rapier stabbed into Shye’s right arm, while Hathor’s spectral dagger sank into his left leg.
Both worked into Shye’s favor.
Realizing he wouldn’t be able to catch up to Kiin in time—especially with a few Soul Warriors on the periphery who could obstruct him—Shye instinctively acted on his frustration.
Enraged by Kiin’s hateful expression, he hurled one of his greatswords at him, unable to tolerate that smug face any longer.
Unexpectedly, his subconscious aim turned out immaculate.
The pommel of his greatsword—now weighing over a hundred kilograms—struck Kiin’s forehead cleanly, instantly knocking the f*ck out of him and shattering most of the bones in his skull.
The hateful bastard fell to the ground, convulsing with both hands frozen like a zombie.
It was the most satisfying sight Shye had ever witnessed and the most gratifying feeling he had ever experienced.
