Chapter 951: Battle of the Black Dragon Gate (5)
Inside a metallic room familiar to Shye, two magic circles glowed—one blue, one purple—illuminating the surroundings.
Meanwhile, near the glowing arcane circles, Sanada sat in his room, watching everything unfold from Shye’s perspective through the system on a small, blue holographic screen.
He was torn between whether to help and risk himself again. Sanada, too, had a wish, just like the sinister snake.
He wanted to return to his old world, even if only to die there.
Perhaps see where his beloved mother was buried and visit her grave.
After all, she should be dead by now, tragically unable to see his son once more before she departed the world she was living in for eternity.
Sanada had been trying to return to his world for decades, and only now, after a flash of inspiration from the ongoing war, did he manage to finally complete the portal that would allow him to return, though he was not sure where on earth it would take him.
The blue one would take him back home, while the purple one would bring him right back to the battle.
The portal back to his world, coincidentally, would close after a few more minutes.
He would have to decide whether to leave Shye to his own devices or abandon his dreams of returning to his own world.
‘Who the hell said I would be able to change a damn thing even if I went back to the fray, anyway?’ thought Sanada, convincing himself to do the right thing for himself for once.
Since he arrived in this world, he has always thought about and worked for others.
Doesn’t he at least deserve to return to his own world after tirelessly working to save this one from Dweezel’s evil hands?
He had done enough, hadn’t he?
He was so tired…
His old body was now too frail for battle, and his mind and heart could barely endure anymore—especially after yet another near-death experience.
He had dabbled in forbidden arts against his will, all for the sake of a world he didn’t belong to.
He still dearly loved Earth.
His friends and family were there—what was left of them, at least.
He felt so alone here.
In any case, he had a few minutes to observe and decide his next move—and he sure as hell wouldn’t make any decisions lightly, even if it meant the deaths of a few of Shye Crowley’s friends.
And so, Sanada Eiichiro continued observing

Meanwhile, back on the Fiftieth Floor of the Hawkin Group Headquarters, Shye and his cohort were engaged in a tough battle.
“Shirley! Focus on surviving, you hear me?!” Shye exclaimed, gritting his teeth as he defended himself against the blades of two Soulless Heroes.
To make matters worse, Primo joined the fray whenever there was a great chance to slay him.
Thankfully, none of the bastard’s sneaky attacks were able to take his life, but how long could he and his cohort last against such ruthless attacks?
Shirley, on the other hand, was faced with the terrifying task of dealing with Dweezel himself—which was exactly why Shye was extremely worried, especially since she had already suffered several dagger cuts on her arms, and a shallow one on her face.
While none were lethal, a few of them affected her combat capabilities.
It was clear that Shirley didn’t have what it takes to defeat Dweezel Hawkins.

If not for the unwavering nature she honed through hundreds if not thousands of battles, she would’ve already been killed by the sinister snake in the first few seconds of their duel.
Somehow, she was still surviving.
Shirley was even daring to counterattack from time to time.
This was why Shye told her to focus on surviving.
After all, he didn’t need her to kill Dweezel—he only wanted his beloved to survive the war, more than anything else.
The other members of the cohort weren’t doing any better and were barely managing to hold on to their lives.
It was still somewhat alright, though, as Shye continuously kept counting seconds in his head while fighting like a War God.
They just needed to hold on for a minute and forty seconds.
After that, they could rest and recuperate for a few moments or minutes inside the safe confines of the Soul Barrier that Wendy created—at least until Dweezel managed to dismantle the barrier through forceful means.
Shye was the only one able to reap enemy lives in such a grim and overwhelming situation.
But unfortunately, even his inhuman abilities weren’t enough to prevent the situation from spiraling further out of control.
Harry and David had likely already begun the unsealing and could not be interrupted.
‘What to do…’ Shye pondered through gritted teeth as he kicked a Soulless Hero away and deflected a fireball back to its source with the flat of his greatsword.
The problem was that only a few seconds had passed, and things were already this dire.
He glanced around—everyone, including Ian and Siegfried, had already sustained minor injuries.
There were simply too many competent enemies at once.
While his cohort was strong, none of them could easily dispatch their opponents in a single exchange, especially with so many waiting for an opportunity to strike.
If any one of them dared to go on the offensive, they would immediately face lethal counterattacks from the Soulless—perhaps even the Hawklings.
This could only go on for a few dozen seconds at most. A minute and forty seconds seemed outright impossible to achieve.
‘Curses!’
The only advantage the cohort had was that the pressure to attack rested on Dweezel’s side.
Their sole victory condition was to stall the Soulless Heroes, the Hawklings, and the snake himself—for five whole minutes.
Unfortunately, they weren’t doing a great job of it.
Time inevitably flowed, and their situation inevitably worsened.
The cohort fought to the best of their abilities—their focus was razor-sharp, their footwork as precise as it could be, and their attacks and defenses perfectly executed. Yet, despite Wendy’s timely barriers, heals, and various other support skills, some of them inevitably suffered lethal cuts.
The Soulless Heroes were no slouches.
In fact, they were all monstrously strong, and just a single one of them was already difficult for Maia to handle—yet now, she was facing four at once.
Her speed had already deteriorated due to a sword stab wound in her thigh, and her defense had grown sloppy due to moderate burns on her right forearm.
She was only seconds away from being killed.
Luna, the stalwart shielder, was in an equally horrible position.
Due to her dutiful and noble nature, she secured the aggression of most heroes—far more than she could handle.
Even with her shield, she would likely die even earlier than Maia.
Shye knew things couldn’t go on.
And so, he made a decision.
