Chapter 484: Sneaky tricks
Lein paused, weighing all the possibilities. If he accepted Magnus’ offer and joined the Invictus Sect, the benefits would be clear. Support from a Tier-4 King would be guaranteed, and he might even be able to request advancement materials directly from Tier-2 kings without much trouble.
There didn’t appear to be any downside… unless membership in the sect came with binding obligations. The one thing he hated most was being dragged into large-scale wars. The battle between Durnhard and Valerian was still vivid in his memory—in the midst of destruction, all Lein could do was run, fleeing from the storm of power that had far surpassed his capabilities at the time.
Another thought crossed his mind. “Will the requirements for advancement remain the same for each king level?” Lein wondered silently. If so, then as long as he could gather all the prerequisites early on, breaking through to Tier-9 King would only be a matter of time.
With the power of a Tier-9 King, no sect or organization would be able to restrain him. He would stand at the peak, free to carve his own path.
However, if each tier required different prerequisites, then the road would be much longer and more complicated. He would have to spend a great deal of time searching for other advancement materials—time that might be better spent strengthening his own dominion.
Lein looked up, his gaze fixed on Magnus. There was one way to find out the answer—ask the person who had already reached that level.
Adjusting his posture to appear more confident, Lein finally gathered the courage to speak.
“Excuse me, Lord Magnus. I would like to ask you something.” His voice was calm, but his eyes carefully watched Magnus, trying to read his expression.
Magnus sharpened his gaze. For a moment, he was silent, as if assessing Lein, before giving a small nod. “Of course. Ask what you wish to know.” His tone remained steady, reflecting the dignity of a king long accustomed to facing all kinds of situations.
Without beating around the bush, Lein asked his question. “I want to know, what is the process for advancing to Tier-2 King, Tier-3, and so on?”
He studied Magnus’ expression, looking for signs of surprise or displeasure, but the man remained composed. Magnus merely stared at him with an unreadable look in his eyes before finally speaking.
“You’re a Player, aren’t you?” Magnus confirmed.
“Yes.”
“The advancement process for you Players won’t be much different. However, the laws you study will differ at each tier,” Magnus explained calmly, revealing his vast insight. “Each time you learn a new law, you’ll need to form another spirit body in harmony with that law. Once that is complete, you simply need to gather enough energy to break through the barrier.”
Lein absorbed every word carefully. Even though Magnus didn’t use system-related terminology, his explanation made perfect sense. This likely meant that after he studied a new law, the system would create a trial realm similar to when he broke through the Master stage and entered the Soul Formation Realm.
Lein fell silent for a moment, letting the information sink in. If each advancement stage had similar requirements, then he could start formulating a long-term strategy.
A decision began to take shape in his mind. By joining the Invictus Sect, he could use this opportunity to gain as much benefit as possible. If he were lucky, he might even obtain something far more valuable—Void Essence.
After a while, Lein finally spoke. “Lord Magnus, I can accept your offer. However, I’m currently too weak.” His words sounded humble, as if admitting his own limitations.
Of course, he couldn’t openly say that his true intention was to acquire Void Essence. If he wanted to gain Magnus’ trust, he had to craft his reasoning carefully, making it sound reasonable.
Magnus gave a slight nod, seeming unsurprised by Lein’s answer. “That’s fine, Lord Lein. With your potential, I believe it’s only a matter of time before you break through to Tier-2 King.” His voice was casual, yet there was certainty in his tone. As someone experienced, he could sense that the energy within Lein’s body had already reached the peak of Tier-1 King.
Lein quietly held back a sigh. Yes, his level cap had indeed reached its peak, but that didn’t mean he could break through immediately. Two things were still missing before he could advance to Tier-2 King.
“You’re right, Lord Magnus,” Lein replied, his voice calm even as his mind calculated rapidly. “But I still need resources to make the breakthrough.”
As he said that, Lein glanced at Magnus briefly, trying to read his reaction. However, Magnus showed no change in expression, his gaze as calm as the surface of a deep lake.
Feigning hesitation, Lein added, “So… perhaps I’ll join after I’ve reached Tier-2 King.” His tone carried a hint of regret, as if the decision wasn’t something he wanted, but rather a consequence he had to accept.
Magnus didn’t respond immediately. He stared at Lein in silence, then glanced briefly toward Luxador before finally nodding. “I can grant you one condition—anything you need to break through to Tier-2 King. But in return, you must promise to help the Invictus Sect enter the Sector Realm.”
Lein felt his chest tighten with excitement. The words he had been hoping to hear had finally come from Magnus’ lips.
However, Magnus’ final statement made Lein’s expression shift slightly. Sector Realm? What did that mean? On top of that, he was being asked to make a promise to Magnus—a commitment that couldn’t be taken lightly.
“Looks like this old man has high hopes for me,” Lein muttered inwardly, a hint of narcissism in his tone. Yet behind his confidence, he was genuinely surprised by Magnus’ insight. This man had managed to perceive the hidden potential within him with startling accuracy.
Lein already had a strong resolve to obtain the Void Essence. Now, it was time to play his hand. But before that, there was one more gamble he wanted to take. He intended to repeat the trick he once pulled on Veyron—baiting Magnus into revealing the Void Essence, copying it, and then rejecting the offer without losing anything.
Swiftly, Lein adjusted his expression, putting on a confused look as if something was bothering him.

Magnus noticed the change and asked with a slight furrow in his brow. “What is it?”
From the start, Magnus had suspected that Lein wasn’t the type to accept an offer so easily. But even after he had played his trump card, the young man before him seemed even more cunning than he had appeared.
“It’s nothing, Lord Magnus. It’s just… do you really have Void Essence?” Lein asked in an innocent tone, his eyes widening slightly as if merely trying to confirm.
—ZZZZZ!—
The air around them suddenly trembled violently. Magnus’ aura burst forth, pressing down on everything around them with overwhelming force. Lein felt his body lose balance for a moment, barely able to stay on his feet.
Even the Grandmasters standing neatly behind Magnus dropped to their knees instantly, their faces filled with fear. Laras and Efa, who had remained calm until now, were also forced down by the unbearable pressure.
