Chapter 495: Herlos Slave Market
Lein narrowed his eyes at Thurok. The old man was once again trying to inflate his own worth and exaggerate the favor he had just done.
Damn, this old guy really has no shame, Lein muttered inwardly.
Still, he couldn’t refuse. Thurok hadn’t even asked for his opinion before building the residence. That alone was proof of how cunning the old man was when it came to getting his way. He never gave others the chance to say no—always taking action first so the other party had no choice but to accept.
Lein sighed inwardly. I’ve got a lot to learn from this old man, he thought.
They soon reached a small pavilion beside a pond and took seats around a wooden table carved with fine details. The atmosphere around them was peaceful. The air was filled with the gentle fragrance of blooming flowers, and the soft sound of flowing water from the pond added to the serene vibe of the place.
“What a beautiful place. I’d love to have a residence like this too,” one of the elders murmured, his eyes scanning the perfectly arranged garden and the distant view of the classically-styled wooden building.
“Yeah,” another elder chimed in with a mocking tone. “Thurok always keeps the best stuff for himself.”
Thurok, however, remained unfazed. He didn’t react at all to the teasing comments. His expression stayed flat, as if their words were nothing but a passing breeze.
Their conversation continued, casual yet meaningful. Lein began to learn more about the personalities of the other elders. Though they had different ways of speaking—some preferred to joke, others more serious—they all seemed willing to lend a hand if he needed help in the future.
But the one topic that truly caught Lein’s attention was their discussion about the laws of nature. According to Thurok and the other elders, in order to study laws effectively, one needed a Sovereign with at least Tier 4 King-level power as a guide. The stronger the Sovereign, the faster the learning process.
Lein let out a long sigh. He already had all the necessary components, including the cosmic core Veyron was going to give him in five days. And yet, there was still another obstacle—there was no available Sovereign strong enough to guide him any time soon.
After further discussion, a final decision was made: Lein would have to wait for the Sect Ancestor to return, or for a Tier 4 elder who was currently out on a mission. Unfortunately, that wait could be long—at least six months.
Impatience gnawed at Lein’s mind. That much time was far too long for him. He couldn’t afford to just sit around waiting for something uncertain.
“Isn’t there any other way, Master Thurok?” Lein asked, his tone filled with concern. He couldn’t wait that long. Time was far too precious to waste.
Thurok took a deep breath, his eyes dimming slightly, though his expression remained flat and resigned. “There isn’t, Lord Lein. The only way to learn the laws is by absorbing them from the Law Manifestation Zones,” he explained heavily.
Lein felt like his heart had just dropped. Was there really no other way? He bit his lip, searching for another possibility.
Suddenly, his brows furrowed. He remembered something—during the battle in the Law Manifestation Zone, he had nearly grasped the light of law. If that was true, then maybe there was another way.
He wanted to bring it up to Thurok and the others, but ultimately held back. There was no need to rush. He would check it out himself tomorrow.
For now, Lein chose to focus on getting used to the elder’s territory. He also began looking for a few attendants to manage his new residence, making sure it could become a comfortable home for him.
The next day, Lein made his way toward the Statue of the Goddess of Light. There, Laras was still in the middle of breaking through her power limit. Lein stood silently, watching closely. He didn’t want any disturbances or danger interfering with the process.
For a while, he simply stood there and observed, making sure everything was going smoothly.
“If you had just used the divine promotion potion, you would’ve broken through with no trouble,” Lein muttered, a trace of regret in his voice.
Even so, he stood firm in his decision. He wasn’t going to hand out another divine promotion potion to Laras—or to anyone among his subordinates.
There were two strong reasons behind that. First, he didn’t want their power to surpass his own. Second, he wanted them to personally experience the harsh struggles of survival and advancement in this unforgiving cosmic world.
As the sun rose higher toward noon, Lein decided to leave Elder’s Isle. His destination this time: the nearest slave market.
The small building was made of wood, with an old signboard hanging above the door. The silhouettes of various lifeforms, including humans, were displayed on it—marking the nature of the place.
Lein stepped inside. The air within was slightly humid, carrying a blend of aged wood and faint incense.
Behind a small counter in the corner, a beautiful woman looked at him with sparkling eyes. Her hair was neatly tied, and her smile was soft and charming.
“Welcome, sir. Welcome to the Herlos Slave Market,” she greeted with a gentle smile.
Lein gave her a brief glance, but found his gaze unknowingly drawn back to her lips—glossy, soft, and radiating an unusual allure. He swallowed hard, unable to help himself.

Seriously? he cursed in his mind. A woman this pretty working as a receptionist in a place like this? A faint sense of unwillingness rose in him.
“I’m looking for slaves skilled in service,” Lein finally said, his voice flat and emotionless.
The woman’s smile widened, her eyes gleaming as if already familiar with this kind of request. “We have many, sir. What type are you looking for?” she asked, pulling out a book and handing it over.
Lein took the book and flipped through its pages. Inside was a detailed list of slaves from various races, ages, and backgrounds. Dragonkin, elves, vampires, goblins, dwarves—all listed neatly, each with a short description of their skills.
