Genetic Ascension - Chapter 151
Chapter 151: Waves
Mark blinked in confusion but picked up a javelin anyway. His aim wasn’t the best, but since Sylas had said so and he didn’t want to get scolded by his sister again, he did as he was told.
By this point, Nazgul had already entered a 20-meter range. It saw the hand chainsaws rushing forward. They spiraled through the air, swinging like pinwheels in hard-to-predict patterns.
With a savage glint in its eyes, Nazgul swung one of its blades toward the chainsaw, but this time the result was unexpected.
The hand chainsaws were long enough to wrap around the thick trunks of trees. A usual handheld chainsaw would at most be around three feet or a meter long. These, however, were twice that, likely to take advantage of their added Strength compared to normal humans and the fact they were cutting down quite substantial trees.
As a result, when Nazgul swung at the rotating chain to knock it down, rather than succeeding, its two halves suddenly swung out in opposite directions, wrapping around Nazgul’s weapon, wrist, and arm.
“Ready,” Sylas spoke, and Mark raised the javelin.
Sylas’ gaze flashed.
To the outside world, it looked as though he was still controlling just three objects, that being the three handheld chainsaws. But in reality, he had suddenly split his attention four ways.
He had already been able to control three daggers before he passed out in the Basilisk Dungeon the second time. But now that his Wisdom was 62…
He pulled at the handheld chainsaw from two opposite ends, applying the skills he had just learned barely an hour ago.
Blood flew as the chains cut into Nazgul’s arm, and a whistling sound cut through the chilly air. Mark’s javelin shuttled through the air, streaking with a silvery light.
Nazgul’s odd green liquid began to corrode the handheld chainsaw, but it wasn’t fast enough. The wounds that appeared on its arm were merely superficial, and by the time Nazgul realized it should drop its second weapon in an attempt to peel the chain off of itself, it had already snaked up its arm, down its torso, and tightened around its ankles.
In a vain attempt, Nazgul tried to use its overwhelming Strength to rip its legs apart and shatter the chains, but the result was even more tragic. The gnoll elite ended up sealing its own fate. Its tendons tore apart beneath the blades before the chainsaw gave way, and just as it tripped forward, unable to uphold its own weight any longer, Mark’s javelin arrived.
As unlucky as the gnoll elite was, it fell right into the path of Mark’s javelin and its head was pierced through.
“Holy shit! Badass!” Mark yelled out.
In the chaotic battlefield, it was quickly drowned out, but Bloom and Sylas heard him well enough.
Sylas didn’t respond, waiting for the other foot to drop. He was almost certain that all of this was time-based. The three of them had killed the first ten gnolls so fast, but the BOSS had appeared right afterward. It couldn’t have taken more than ten minutes, even including Bloom’s personal slaughter fest.
This time, they took out the BOSS in less than a minute, so Sylas was paying attention to how long passed as he thought about his attacks just now.
‘I don’t always have to take the hard approach to telekinesis. The soft approach is even fiercer in a lot of ways, especially since I can control it from a distance. I don’t have to put myself in the line of risk… it’s no wonder the Scorned Wraps destroyed the net. Such things can be considered to be weapons as well…’
The only unfortunate part was that the chain had been somewhat corroded by whatever green liquid had been dripping from the gnoll elite.
The good part, though…
Sylas raised a hand and the twin axes came toward him one by one.
Lucius wanted to eke out his real strength? Well, they’d have to see if these monster waves were good enough to get past his schemes first. As it seemed right now, they had no chance.
…
Time passed quickly and the second wave came and went, as did the third. In the end, Sylas, Bloom, and Mark ended up becoming mercenaries, traveling to the other parts of the wall to help with the lingering threats from former waves.
Every time the BOSS appeared, Sylas’ telekinesis would suffocate them, the combination of handheld chainsaws and the helpful addition of the gnoll elite’s corrosive weapons giving him an edge the others couldn’t overcome.
The last BOSS was more difficult because of its exceptional Constitution, but even then, Sylas was able to use what remained of the three handheld chainsaws to tie it up along with <Astral Bind> to give Bloom a chance to deal the final, fatal blow.
In the end, the three of them were responsible for the kill on all three BOSSes.
It was just a shame that Sylas didn’t land the killing blow on any one of the BOSSes, so for now, he had still only cleared the Fragmented level of his Quest.

Lucius sat back in his chair, a hint of surprise in his eyes. He didn’t expect that he wouldn’t have to take action at all. He thought for sure that he’d have an opportunity at some point or another.
He read the reports once, then twice.
‘Interesting… his strength isn’t that great, but his application of it is far beyond anyone else. But that is also because his telekinesis has a crazy amount of flexibility.
‘He’s Level 0? But his Charisma should be in the hundreds at the very least, so his Intelligence and Wisdom are likely weak, but his Will should also be exceptional…’
Lucius wasn’t surprised by this, as it was still within the realms of reason. It was still acceptable for a Grimblade, even if it was a Grimblade who hadn’t followed along with the pure lineage.
