Genetic Ascension - Chapter 889
Chapter 889: Gogo
Sylas blinked, his vision still not quite clear. His ears didn’t seem to be working well either, but the voice seemed to have spoken directly into his mind. It was impossible for him not to hear it.
“Gogo? Your name is Gogo?” Sylas asked.
The Basilisk King tilted its head as though it were trying to recall something, and then Sylas could feel that it was wondering if it had pronounced it correctly. The way Sylas said it didn’t sound the same as it sounded in his mind, but he didn’t think he was stupid… so the mistake must be his own.
Feeling the complex thoughts of the Basilisk King for the first time, Sylas was taken aback that it could even have such intricate thoughts. He was even more taken aback by the fact that it had such a deep, unfathomable respect for him.
It was as though Sylas could do no wrong. If he was angry, then it must be the Basilisk King’s fault.
There was such an intimate connection and weaving between their thoughts that Sylas couldn’t avoid the guilt even if he wanted to. It weighed on him like a mountain, and the disgust twisting in his gut only grew deeper.
The Basilisk King tried to say its name again, but no matter how many times it tried, it always sounded like Gogo to Sylas.
The disconnect was baffling for more than one reason. Not only did it not make sense that the Basilisk King couldn’t convey its name, but more importantly than that…
Shouldn’t his Insight Path Talent have already told him what it was? Why was it so silent all of a sudden? Could it not sense this? Was this actually beyond it?
Suddenly, a light lit up in the Basilisk King’s eyes, and it opened its mouth this time.
What happened next nearly killed Sylas.
The Basilisk King’s tongue flicked in an odd arc, its slit pupils constricting, and all the scales on its body rippling as though they were the air flaps of an airplane. Radiant golden Runes danced across it, strong hues pulsing from the edges of its black-as-night scales.
And then it spoke.
It was a language akin to the roars of dragons and the thunderous booms of clouds that rang out.
Sylas felt as though the last of his Will was about to flicker out of existence, and it might have been lost had the Basilisk King not realized its mistakes and shut its mouth before the last echoes finished.
Blood leaked from Sylas’ eyes, ears, and nose, but the notification screen still flashed brightly.

Sylas’ mind might have been reeling, but the sudden shock awoke him to a very real fact.
All of his interactions with the Basilisk King had been in an odd limbo state, one where his Progenitor Flame ability had been very much active.
He wasn’t even sure how that was possible with his mental state basically completely drained and his Will unable to sustain it. But then he realized something in the same instant…
The Basilisk King… had borrowed from him?
That was when Sylas recalled… he had been so busy, so swamped with work that while he had gone through the new ability of One Kind For Me thoroughly… he had never done the same for Were-For-The-Invincible.

Sylas couldn’t believe he had made such an idiotic mistake. He had leveled Were-For-The-Invincible up in the heat of battle against an E-Grade opponent, but he was still not someone who would forget something like this.
He almost wanted to laugh. He had been so focused on winning, so focused on never losing no matter what, that he hadn’t even realized just how much of a toll it was taking on him.
For him to make such a ridiculously foolish mistake… just what sort of bent and twisted state was his mind in right now?
Reverse Fusion… this was the ability that the Basilisk King had used and was currently using. It might even be the reason he couldn’t quite hear its name properly.
The reason everything seemed so slow, that the Dogons hadn’t already cut his head from his shoulders, was because the Basilisk King was using Reverse Fusion to tap into his Progenitor Flame ability and slow everything down.
They were communicating with their minds, but barely a few split seconds had passed.
And then there was Forced Fusion…
It spoke for itself. It could allow Sylas to force a Fusion even in a heavily injured state, but it would come at a price. He wouldn’t be able to gain 100% of his Contract’s abilities like usual. And depending on his state, it was possible that he might even kill his Contract during the Fusion.
Without hesitation, Sylas poured his new Experience points into it, leveling it up to Level 40.
He knew that once he did so, it would unlock a new ability. And just maybe… just maybe…
It would be exactly what he needed.
Sylas’ eyes blazed with a light when he saw the change.
