Genetic Ascension - Chapter 928
Chapter 928: System Rewards (3)
A flame burned with raging fire in the depths of Sylas’ body. His telekinesis took another huge leap forward, reaching 50,000 pounds of force from a mere 20,000 before.
But the changes to his Progenitor Flame Abilities, while they felt a bit hard to grasp and intangible to him, the one thing that could be directly seen was how it influenced his control over the Time Rune Lineage.
Before, he could at best see through two iterations of a Rune. But now, he could see through three of them.
This sounded like a small change, but every step forward was exponential. To put this matter into perspective, it took Sylas three attempts to draw the system disruption magic circle the Africor Monarchs used. With this change, it would not only take him just one attempt, but if he were to attempt it a second time, he might be able to progress it from Breath Mastery to Flesh Mastery in a single bound.
Learning such a complex magic circle—not even Rune, but a set of Runes—in two attempts…
It was an asinine change.
Of course, this wasn’t just because of the Time Rune Lineage, but rather its potency in combination with Sylas’ Rune Spark Mastery. But it could be said that at this level, Sylas could learn almost any F-Grade Rune Legacy nearly instantly to a level its disciples likely took years to reach.
The gap was enormous.

[System Reward Activated]
—
[A Legend has sensed you]
[Would you like to establish a connection?]
[Yes] [No]
—
Sylas’ pupils constricted. He was very sensitive to such things.
The last time he had been contacted like this, it was the Guild Masters trying to influence him, and he had directly rejected. But this was worse than that.
What did… “Legend” mean? For the system to use such a Title, it was likely even more shocking than he could fathom.
It was dangerous, far too dangerous.
Even though it was a System Reward, it was impossible to blame Sylas for not trusting the judgment of a system that had punished him so many times just for attempting to save his world.
He picked [No].
—
[The Legend is disappointed]
—
[The Legend has chosen to award you a lesser version of their Inheritance]
[Accept?]
[Yes] [No]
—
Sylas’ eyes narrowed and he hesitated once again. Was this another trick? The last time he had been tied to an Inheritance, he ended up tied to Gralith.
Back then, he had also thought that everything was under his control, but Gralith had made it pretty clear that there wasn’t much he could have done if the Scorpion Warlord had wanted to be malicious.

This situation… felt eerily similar.
Sylas took a breath…
‘Yes.’
This time, he chose to take another risk. The protections on Earth were still there, and all things considered, if he could ruin plans set millions of years before even his birth, then he could certainly deal with someone who had only just learned of him. At least he hoped that they had only just learned of him.
If he took on the full Inheritance, with how Wills worked and how tied he felt to the Scorpion Warlord Lineage, escape would likely be impossible.
But if he took this lesser form, there would definitely still be room to maneuver.
Even after thinking through all of this, though, Sylas didn’t expect that accepting would trigger a second System Reward. Somehow, this one reward had taken up two of them.
—
[System Reward Activated]
—
[Reward]
[Tri Class Constitution]
OR
[Second Profession Slot]
—
Sylas made the connection immediately. ‘This Legend’s Inheritance is a Profession. The system is offering me either another slot for a Class, or a second Profession slot…’
The hesitation returned, but Sylas knew that he was in too deep now.
If he took Tri Class Constitution like he really, really wanted to, that would mean he would waste a System Reward. The Legend’s Inheritance would fall into a limbo and there would be nothing he could do to retrieve it unless he found another chance to gain another Profession Slot.
But something told Sylas that a Second Profession Slot was even rarer than a Dual Class Constitution.
Professions were basically the representation of the system’s coddling. So many of the things Sylas’ Vipermancy Profession could do were absolutely broken, and they certainly weren’t triggered by his own power.
It was all the system.
In this case, it was akin to having a Combat Mount. The system took on all the computation for you, making it easier for you to benefit from both.
The system giving a Second Profession Slot away was the ultimate form of coddling. It was offering more of its computational prowess to one person than it would most others.
By extension, though Dual Class Constitutions were rare, and Tri Class Constitutions were even rarer than that, the system could pat itself on the back and leave whatever happened after the fact to the user, making it far more willing to hand such rewards out.
This time… it only made sense to take the rarer reward, especially when not taking it would mean wasting a reward.
The result left Sylas’ eyes glowing.
This was truly… exactly what he needed.

Sylas had barely opened the screen when Experience points began jumping wildly at him. But he completely ignored them.
This Profession… was it really an inferior version of the real thing?
In that case, how powerful was the real thing if this Runeweaver was already on the same level as Vipermancer?
