Global Awakening: Apocalypse Ender's Chronicle - Chapter 596
Chapter 596: Eve
Roan had soon returned to Raze’s arm as a tattoo mark. After that, Raze called for Shenlong since Shane also requested his presence.
The matters about the rescued victims or the survivors will be handled by Nia, Lysandra, and the rest of the team.
As for the Super Soldiers and the Elves, they were tasked to secure the surrounding walls of the fortress to ensure that they wouldn’t get surprised by an attack from the enemies.
Raze and Shenlong descended the hidden staircase into the laboratory. At this time, their footsteps echoed in the dimly lit chamber, so Shane immediately noticed them while he was observing the beautiful being in the Cryo Pod.
In the meantime, Shenlong and Raze were simply amazed by the sight of the surroundings.
The lab was definitely conducting a huge research, after seeing various machinery, computers, cryo chambers, and many others.
There were also many shattered glass on the ground that crunched underfoot as they passed through the rows of cryo pods.
“They’re not normal humans…” Raze muttered as she looked at some of the pods.
Shenlong nodded at this, after seeing each of them…
“They’ve undergone some body modifications. Interesting… I wonder if their bodies weren’t rejecting these machines placed on them.”
“Maybe that’s the reason why they were frozen there… They probably couldn’t withstand it or something.” Raze mused for a moment. However, there could also be many other reasons that they haven’t thought of.
Nonetheless, the two of them continued to check the pods, containing the fusion of man and machine… Even if they couldn’t be woken up, it was still quite a learning experience to see such modified humans.
Some of them had extra limbs grafted onto their torsos, others had exposed cybernetic organs, and most likely, there were other machines inside their bodies.
At the far end of the room, they finally saw Shane. He was standing before the last intact pod.
Inside the chamber was none other than Eve whom Shane wanted to wake up.
[ Subject: “Eve” ]
“First successful Genesis Hybrid. Retains full cognitive function. Displays regenerative abilities surpassing baseline humans. Status: STASIS.”
Raze let out a whistle after seeing the naked woman… “Well, she’s creepy.”
Shenlong crossed his arms, his expression unreadable. “And likely dangerous.”
Shane didn’t turn around as he heard them…
“That’s why I called you. If she wakes up hostile, I’d rather not fight her alone.”
Raze smirked, rolling up her sleeve to reveal the dragon tattoo coiled around her forearm. “Roan’s ready if things go south. By the way, what level are you right now?”
Shane smiled and replied without hesitation. “Level 80… I was stuck at Level 70 but after completing the Ascension Quest, I reached Level 80 immediately. I got lucky.”
“What? You’re already Level 80?” Raze was shocked. She didn’t expect this at all.
“Well…” Shane smiled as he knew that the experience points he was getting were definitely the maximum amount he could get in every Zombie Kill, unlike the others.
“Alright… Just stay back and don’t release Roan just in case she gets scared. It’s better if he’s seeing humans… and a monk.”
“Fine. We’re ready.” Raze could only reply as she backed away with Shenlong.
Shane then reached for the pod’s release mechanism… He already confirmed this from Cloud and was ready to see how it works.
“Let’s find out what she is.”
With a hiss coming from the depressurization, the pod’s seal broke.

Then, it was followed by a cloud of freezing vapor spilling out…
It then started obscuring Eve’s form for a moment before dissipating.
Then, they immediately sensed the presence of life…
At this point, everyone was ready for whatever was about to happen.
After waiting for a few seconds, they notice her move! It was almost unnoticeable but she was definitely alive.
Just like that, her fingers twitched first, then her arms, as if shaking off decades of stiffness.
She then took a single breath—her first in who knows how long—before her eyes opened and swiftly locked onto Shane.
It was as if she was assessing, whether he was a threat or not.
“You… are not one of them.” Her voice was soft and seemingly frail but it sounded inhuman for some reason.
Shane was unsure which side she was talking about but he could assume that she was thinking of the researchers or scientists who had put her in her current situation…
“If you mean those scientists who worked here before. No. We’re not with the World Government. They’re already gone and many decades have probably passed since then.”
Eve blinked as she confirmed that she was indeed inside the Cryo Pod that could preserve her body which could last for a few centuries.
Furthermore, as she observed the place, she was immediately able to tell how badly it looked compared to her last memories of this place.
There was a moment of pause as she absorbed the information…
Then, to their surprise, Eve smiled. But it wasn’t a comforting expression.
“Good.”
Eve then stepped out of the pod, testing her limbs after a long sleep. She then pressed a few buttons on the pod and it released a bodysuit she could use…
Hayden then gave her a moment to wear the fitted black bodysuit that was readied for her.
“Have you seen the files?” she said, gesturing to the ruined lab. “You know what they wanted to do with us?”
Shane nodded. “Turn you into weapons. The Zombies had won and basically occupied almost every place in the continent. There were only a few shelters around with humans right now. They probably failed or something that’s why you and many others weren’t released.”
Shane explained as he felt that Eve wasn’t a threat for now.
However, as Shane said this, Eve simply shook her head.
“It’s worse…” Eve corrected. “They wanted to replace humanity.”
She then tapped her temple as if she was feeling some pain or perhaps, trying to recall something.
“I remember their voices in my head. ‘The weak must be culled. The strong… repurposed.'”
Raze’s smile faded after hearing this. “So you’re what, some kind of super-soldier?”
Eve’s golden eyes looked to her. “I am what happens when you fuse the Z-Virus with modified human DNA… and then refine it.” She flexed her fingers, and blackened claws slid from her nails, retracting just as quickly.
“No decay. No madness. Just… evolution.”
Shenlong’s stance shifted subtly after hearing this. “And what do you want now?”
Eve looked at Shane. “The same thing you do. To burn the ones who did this.”
To be fair, Shane wasn’t planning to eliminate the remnants of the World Government. At most, he was just curious about what they do and their plans right now, considering the terrible situation of the world.
What he was concerned about was the elimination of the Zombies or perhaps, finding the cure, vaccine, or whatever that could stop the spread of the virus.
Shane considered her for a long moment before speaking.
“Prove it.”
Eve didn’t hesitate. She walked to a shattered terminal, pressing her palm against its surface. The screen flickered to life, displaying a map of hidden World Government facilities.
It was a piece of information that even Cloud failed to find…
[ Cloud: The information wasn’t from the terminal. She was only using it to show the information inside her body. ]
As Cloud could read Shane’s mind, it immediately informed Shane of what was happening.
‘Sorry for doubting you even for a moment.’ Shane thought as he focused on the terminal.
“They’re still out there,” she said. “More labs. More experiments. And the ones in charge… they’re not even human anymore. If many decades had already passed, they must’ve improved again.”
Raze frowned. “What does that mean?”
Eve’s smile returned, colder this time. “It means the real war hasn’t even started. They could be thinking of eliminating all other humans since they believed that only those who had undergone modifications must survive…”
Shane exhaled. “Then we’d better get ready…”
As he said this, he looked at the images shown on the screen…
“Wait… Are you showing us the headquarters or bases of the World Government underground?” Shane suddenly asked as Cloud recorded the information.
“Yes… They had expected that the Zombies would control the surface of the planet, so it was normal to build shelters they could never reach.” Eve answered as if it was truly the most normal thing to do.
“They also needed to buy more time since the progress of the research was slow.” She added.
“Do you think they’re all still alive down there?” Shane asked.
“Mhmm… Now that you said it… There are Eclipse Followers that we just heard about.” Raze muttered as she felt that it had a connection to the World Government which wanted to eliminate the weak.
“It’s highly possible that they’re still active considering the amount of mystical resources and ancient relics they had obtained prior to the spread of the virus.”
This answer from Eve piqued everyone’s curiosity.
“Tell us more…” Shane said.
“I can’t… I don’t even understand those relics they found. It may not even be from this world at all. However, because of that, the advancement of technology hastened and we obtained a chance to battle against the Zombies.” Eve said…
