Chapter 645: Asad’s Desperate Move
“Let’s see what you got…” Asad muttered.

Beneath the surface of the Black Citadel, Asad finally completed his preparations. As soon as he felt the presence of the first Zombie Lord, he knew that they couldn’t just rely on his army… Someone needed to command them. The Lich or the Doom Knights wouldn’t be enough to command his army.

[ Zombie Lord Krogh has entered the battlefield. ]

Asad glanced at the system notification. Of course, his sentinels had also reported the Zombie Lord’s approach.

Aside from that, he could also feel the earth above had begun to quake under the march of the Stoneskin, Ironskin, and Bronzeskin Zombies—each variant tougher than the last.

At first glance, Krogh appeared unassuming.

Barely five feet tall, his physique was hunched, with a swollen head that pulsed with green veins.

It looked quite disgusting as if its head was about to explode.

Then, as Asad observed him, he noticed its eyes were completely black… Nonetheless, Asad could tell that it was watching the battlefield and calmly assessing his Undead Army…

Asad knew that he had to take this battle seriously.

He was aware that Krogh’s unassuming frame was only the beginning. It wouldn’t be surprising to see this Zombie Lord transform and use terrifying skills…

He had already killed a few Zombie Lords as well, and he knew not to underestimate their appearance at all.

Soon, Asad raised a hand wrapped in black silk.

Just like that, a wave of death mana was released outward, activating a command node embedded in the chamber wall.

“Send word to all commanders—initiate full deployment. I’m coming to the surface.”

With that, Asad turned and marched through the underground corridor.

Behind him, skeletal attendants shambled forward, bringing a crate filled with Mana Stones glowing in icy blue—a gift from Shane.

Weeks earlier, Shane had visited Asad under the guise of trade and shared invaluable strategic intel and rare supplies: high-purity Mana Stones, reinforced spell catalysts, and even enchanted bone marrow from elite undead species Shane had fought.

Asad took them with gratitude—but also with purpose. Today, they would all be used.

After a few moments, Asad emerged from a dark lift beneath the central courtyard of the Black Citadel…

Of course, he was still wearing his Tier 5 Dark Magician Set.

His black robes started fluttering as he continuously gathered his energy for his later spells…

Soon, Asad noticed that the sky above was darkening already despite being in the middle of the day. As he observed the ‘cloud’ blocking the skies, he couldn’t help but smile as he confirmed that there were hundreds of his Shadow Wraiths!

Rooarr!

As the clash with the Zombie Lord’s army happened, he watched as these Shadow Wraiths started assisting his Skeletal Army as they could attack internal organs, souls, or even spirits that normal undead creatures could not…

The fact that these Wraiths could ignore defenses would surely alleviate the pressure of the undead army.

Then, Asad walked up to the temporary wall of his shelter…

He then raised his Grimhold Staff… Soon, the crimson gem at its tip glowed with absorbed spiritual essence.

“Let the dead remember who commands them.”

With this incantation, he slammed the staff into the stone.

Boom!

There was a deep rumble that followed and tore through the ground.

Just like that, another wave of undead army emerged from beneath the surface like insects from the grave…

There were another three hundred Skeletal Warriors that burst forth. This time, their bodies were equipped with iron plates and taller shields.

Aside from that, there were also Archers and Bone Mages at the very back to support the army in front… They didn’t even wait for instructions and immediately fired arrows and released fire bolts to the Zombie Horde.

Then, there was a mummy phalanx. They were wrapped in silver-threaded bandages and seemed quite weak… They don’t look impressive at all.

However, they marched in formations with spears in their hands.

‘It’s not looking bad… But I have a bad feeling about the Zombie Lord. I wonder what kind of power will he show me.’ Asad commented.

As the battle continued, Krogh’s army was able to push forward persistently.

Most of Skeletal Army’s attacks would get deflected… Most of the arrows bounced off… Even acid and flame from the Bone Mages barely slowed them…

Nonetheless, Asad wasn’t worried. Even if the Shadow Wraiths weren’t doing their job fast enough, he still had many tricks up his sleeves.

“Let’s see how you handle this…”

Asad extended both arms, activating one of the Mana Crystals, which disintegrated in his hand.

He then proceeded with the ritual and soon, he released a powerful energy.

“Rise… you Lords of the Dust and Bone.”

The ground behind his forces cracked open, and three Mummy Lords emerged, each over seven feet tall. These Mummy Lords were armored in some kind of ancient golden war plate and golden gauntlets.

Aside from that, there were also three Skeleton Kings. They were garbed with knightly armor with red capes behind them. Furthermore, Shane could tell that they were wielding cursed weapons.

One of them had a scythe, while the others had a sword and flail…

‘Ohhh… They look excited.’ Asad mused as he saw the Mummy Lords and the Skeleton Kings.

They all stepped forward like royalty returning to a battlefield that had long awaited their wrath.

“Take the frontlines. Split their ranks. Kill the Zombie Lord for me.”

Just like that, the battle began once more.

Soon, the Mummy Lords chanted ancient curses, and just like sands started moving and merging into spectral scorpions!

There were also sand serpents that raced forward to harass and poison the frontlines.

The Skeleton Kings then led the skeletal troops forward… With the presence of the commander, the skeletal warriors were no longer dying needlessly…

The Skeleton King weren’t just using their weapons as well. Apparently, they were coordinating pincer movements and summoning bone pillars to halt the charge of the Bronzeskin vanguard.

Still, Krogh’s army surged forward.

Their skin and flesh were nearly impenetrable.

Even the Mummy Lords’ weapons failed to pierce some of the Ironskin elites unless they attacked with a stronger force.

Asad frowned…

He then used more Mana Crystals and embedded more dark energy into the Shadow Wraiths!

“You have to weaken them more… Target their hearts. Bypass the flesh.”

The Shadow Wraiths would take a lot of time to kill the Zombies by just using their energy to attack their internal organs. They do not have real flesh after all.

Nonetheless, they could slowly corrupt these Zombies from the inside to kill them but that would take a lot of time.

However, with the increased dark energy, it will be quite different.

The Shadow Wraiths had soon started shrieking as they felt the powers on them They glided forward like death itself, phasing through stones and defenders alike.

These wraiths still ignored armor, passing through flesh and reaching organs.

However, as their claws started to emit more dark energy, the damage they could do had gotten a lot stronger!

Dozens of Krogh’s elite collapsed, their internal systems ruptured, while their armored hides remained untouched.

Screams echoed—not from the living, but from the undead, as the Stoneskin ranks finally began to crumble.

“Rooaaar!”

Krogh finally showed some disappointment for the first time.

The little Zombie Lord raised both arms and slammed his fists into the ground.

Boom!

With this move, a wave of decay pulsed outward, melting undead like wax…

Then, Krogh’s body began to change—expanding rapidly with bursts of steam.

His muscles bulged in such a terrifying way while his skin was torn apart to make way for slabs of bone-plated muscle. Needless to say, the deathly energy from its body had gotten a lot stronger.

He had activated his transformation.

Now over nine feet tall, Krogh roared while shattering a chunk of the stone beside it with a single punch.

Mummy Lords then used its body to block the chunks of stones to protect the weaker mummies. However, Krogh’s main focus was the Skeleton Kings doing a lot of damage to its army…

From that brief moment, Krogh had already gotten closer to the Skeleton Kings, ready to kill them.

However, it would not be easy!

The Shadow Wraiths screeched as Krogh’s aura was disrupted…

‘Bring it on, Zombie Lord…’ Asad mused as he was already prepared for this…

This Necromancer raised both hands and threw six Mana Crystals into the air.

Then, they hovered and spun rapidly as he began chanting a Necromancer Spell that cracked the stone beneath him.

“By the pact of silence and flame,

I claim the shadows beyond the name.

Spirits forgotten, flesh reclaimed—

Lend me your wrath, unashamed!”

Of course, this was just another ritual that he recited from the Black Grimoire of Eternal Night… However, this ritual was something meant to face these Zombie Lords!

Soon, the six Mana Crystals shattered, and they released a black vortex that poured into Asad’s chest.

“This is it…”

After a few moments, purple veins appeared across his face and arms as he entered a Dark Mage Overdrive State—one only possible through the help of the high-purity Mana Crystals he just used.
