Chapter 122: Exploring Nevergreen Forest
With a wooden sword on his right, Kenshi followed Ayame and the rest as he acted as their bodyguard. Kenshi was the most vigilant among them as he always observed every move that the guide made.
If the guide ever showed any hint of hostility, Kenshi was more than prepared to deal with the guide and knock him out with his wooden sword.
With that in mind, they continued following the guide until they arrived at the entrance of Nevergreen Forest.
At first glance, there wasn’t anything special about Nevergreen Forest since it’s similar to the forest in Blue Star. Nothing stood out from it but that’s what made Ayame and the rest even more wary of it.
After all, what’s more, unnerving was the unknown that lurked in the shadows. The guide didn’t seem to act anything unusual even after arriving at the Nevergreen Forest so they decided to continue following him.
When they arrived at the entrance of Nevergreen Forest, the guide stopped for a while as he explained to them, “This is Nevergreen Forest. It’s the natural habitat of many beasts that could be found on Vacation Paradise Island. However, make sure to follow me at all costs since you can get lost in here.”
“Legends say that those who found themselves lost in Nevergreen Forest could never find the way out. But there didn’t seem to be any legends that stated that those who lost in Nevergreen Forest would die so don’t worry. I am an experienced guide so we will never get lost.”
Afterward, the guide took out a compass from his pocket.
But instead of using the compass, the guide showed it to them and said, “See? A compass couldn’t be used to navigate in this forest.”
The compass on the guide’s hand was spinning erratically. In other words, it couldn’t be relied on in navigating in Nevergreen Forest.
Seeing the compass on the guide’s hand, Shirohige whispered to them, “I bet Kayden’s boot has better navigation than that compass.”
When they heard Shirohige’s words, they immediately imagined Kayden relying on his luck and using a boot as a compass. Tossing the boot upwards and where it pointed would be the correct path. Such performance could only be possible if one had excellent luck.
Ayame commented, “Although Kayden seemed to be needed in navigating the Nevergreen Forest, I’m sure he has his reasons for joining Group 2 instead. After all, if they are found snooping suspiciously inside Windesburg Hotel, then Kayden’s luck is needed to let them get out of such a problem.”
“There are five of us here and I don’t believe that with this many of us that we will get lost. As long as we stick together, we will be able to get out of Nevergreen Forest alive.”
The guide seemed to be ignorant of their chatter as he acted as if he didn’t hear anything of what they said.
However, the guide still interjected as he placed back the compass in his pocket and asked, “Are any of you interested in exploring Nevergreen Forest with me?”
Hearing the guide’s question, Ayame immediately replied as she nodded, “Yes. Do your best to guide us so that we won’t get lost.”
In response, the guide confidently patted his chest and boasted, “I have been the guide for ten years. Even if I were to stroll around Vacation Paradise Island with my eyes closed, I’d never get lost!”
Ayame commented, “That’s reassuring. So we’ll count on you then.”
Although she commented that, she didn’t truly mean it. Deep down inside, she was already planning countermeasures if ever the guide fucked up.
She could only trust her teammates and she never placed her trust on the guide since he looked unreliable.
Ayame noticed that the guide seemed to feign ignorance of whatever they were doing. Even when they whispered suspiciously amongst themselves before, the guide acted as if he never noticed it.
Anyway, if something ever happened, Ayame still had some confidence that she could survive in Nevergreen Forest. After all, she still has the Eternal Beef of Satiation. Even if she got lost and didn’t have any food, she could just eat the Eternal Beef of Satiation and never worry about starvation.
Afterward, the guide motioned them to follow him as the guide entered Nevergreen Forest.
Nevergreen Forest was just a sea of trees or at least that’s what looked like from the outside. There wasn’t anything amiss in it. Nonetheless, Ayame and her groupmates never let down their guard.
The guide and they had already brought camping tools and non-perishable food beforehand so they trekked Nevergreen Forest without any worries aside from getting lost.
In the sea of trees, Ayame and her groupmates could hear the sound of birds chirping, the cicada screeching, and the leaves rustling when the wind passed through them.
They had to admit, despite it just being a sea of trees, it indeed was a very calming and soothing experience. The warm breeze was free from pollution and it brought them fresh air to breathe.
It’s like they were one with nature and free from the shackles of modern society.
No wonder some people would have a vacation and go camping in the woods.

‘It’s a pity that this is a horror-mystery game and not a vacation simulation game.’
Ayame and the rest of Group 1 thought in unison as they mentally sighed. They didn’t know how many times they had such thoughts but they couldn’t help but curse Aspro for wanting them to suffer.
However it was for their own good since according to Winston, Blue Star was about to face an otherworld invasion. But they still didn’t like being toyed around with by Aspro.
If it was just a vacation premise but there was a zombie apocalypse afterward, they could accept it. But a soothing vacation experience plus unknown horrors lurking in the dark, they couldn’t accept it!
Because of that, they couldn’t sleep peacefully!
While Ayame and the rest of them were distracted by such thoughts, they immediately noticed something.
“Where are the others?”
Looking around, Ayame noticed that she was by herself and the guide as well as her groupmates weren’t with her!
