Chapter 123: Nevergreen Treant
Looking at her surroundings, all Ayame saw was just a sea of trees. There didn’t seem to be any noticeable landmarks that showed where she was.
Even the guide was nowhere to be seen and Ayame couldn’t help but assume that he was the reason for their separation.
“I regret not taking survival class. I was too focused on gaming as well as training in martial arts. Well, I can’t be blamed since I barely have enough time.”
Ayame sighed after she finally accepted that she was lost in the woods.
However, she still believed that she was fortunate compared to her other groupmates. Unlike them, she has the Eternal Beef of Satiation so she will never starve.
Although, Ayame would only eat it if she had no other choice but to do so. She still preferred to keep it for later use since the chef had mentioned a monster that needed the Eternal Beef of Satiation.
If she confronted that monster without having the Eternal Beef of Satiation, then it would be difficult for her to survive even if she didn’t experience a game over.
“If my brother was here, he might be able to survive easily even without his reality manipulation.”
In some cases, Ayame was so reliant on her big brother that whenever she faced problems that she couldn’t solve, she would subconsciously think of what her brother would do in such a situation.
In her view, her brother was omnipotent and could do everything that she couldn’t do.
Because of that, Ayame believed that if her brother had been here, he would have easily solved this problem and he wouldn’t have been lost in Nevergreen Forest unlike her.
“Sigh, he isn’t here so I can only rely on myself. My teammates aren’t here as well so I shouldn’t rely that much on others.”
“I used to be a solo player but since playing Zombie Survival Online, I’ve been relying on my teammates.”
After Ayame sighed, she decided to deal with the situation at hand as she started surveying her surroundings.
There was nothing but trees around her and she couldn’t even find any living creatures aside from plants. Because of that, Ayame didn’t know where to start.
“I’m bad at horror games and even escape games. Bianca knows this shit better than me.”
But even so, Ayame didn’t give up yet since it wasn’t her personality to be a quitter.
After surveying her surroundings and finding out that there wasn’t anything amiss in it, Ayame muttered, “Since everything is the same, then going anywhere will not matter much. It’s at least better than standing here and doing nothing.”
With that plan in mind, Ayame ran away as she sprinted into the woods. The direction she was running towards was the direction she believed to be where they had entered the Nevergreen Forest.
So if Ayame and her groupmates entered Nevergreen Forest via the north, Ayame fled south to return to the entrance of the Nevergreen Forest.
However, no matter how much she ran, Ayame discovered that she would always end up in the same place.
Even if she went from point A to point B, an unknown force would always bring her back to point A.
“I don’t like this one bit. I hate this type of game. Even when I watch movies that introduce this phenomenon, I still hate watching them.”
Ayame wanted to curse but she couldn’t since that would only make her look more pathetic.
Since going from North to South didn’t work, Ayame decided to go west this time.
But in the end, that was still futile as she always arrived at Point A.
However, she didn’t give up yet as she tried running in other directions. Even if she ended up at the same place again, Ayame still discovered something.
“Whenever I am at least 2 kilometers away from point A, I will be brought back to point A by an unknown force. It also seemed to trick my senses and made me believe that I was running in circles.”
“But from my speculation, it’s not that I’m running in circles but an unknown force or phenomenon is teleporting me back to point A or the place where I started.”
Ayame came to the conclusion, “Since I can’t leave here the normal way, then what if I do it in the extreme way?”

“I’m probably under an illusion or hallucination. One of the monsters must have attacked my teammates as well as the guide. Or the guide might be the mastermind behind all of this.”
“Nonetheless, I can only resort to breaking free from this illusion.”
With that plan in mind, Ayame placed her arm near her mouth and decisively bit it!
Her teeth sunk into her skin and she even tasted the blood that seeped out from her bite wound.
What came after that was an excruciating pain that made her eyes widen in pain!
Afterward, she saw that her surroundings started to get blurry as if her perspective of the world was spinning.
Soon enough, Ayame saw that her surroundings returned to where they were before. She saw her groupmates and even the guide.
However, there was one problem.
Ayame discovered that she was currently bound by wooden vines that tied her up tightly. The same went for her teammates as they were also bound by wooden vines.
Even the guide wasn’t an exception to that and compared to them, the guide’s life was at the most risk.
After all, the guide was about to be eaten by a tall tree with a creepy face and a huge mouth. It was none other than a Nevergreen Treant!
The guide was still unconscious and still hallucinating. The Nevergreen Treant had slowly moved the guide towards its mouth and if Ayame didn’t do anything, the guide might die and be eaten by the Nevergreen Treant.
And if the guide died, then they were as good as lost in the Nevergreen Forest.
Knowing the consequences of the guide’s death, Ayame cursed, “Ah damn! I have to save him!”
