Chapter 124: Devouring The Nevergreen Treant
Ayame knew that she had to save the guide or else she and her teammates would be lost in Nevergreen Forest. After all, none of them were proficient in navigating in the forest and Bianca was only good at it in games and not in virtual reality-like games such as this.

However, Ayame found herself bound and restricted by the wooden vines.

Although she had bitten her arm when she was hallucinating, that wasn’t the case in the game world since her arm was still fine.

“I have no choice but to use my Gourmet Authority. With it, I can eat anything so no matter how unpalatable it is, I must eat the wooden vine to free myself.”

After Ayame made that decision, she decisively moved her neck bit the wooden that wrapped her arm. She quickly ate at the wooden vines that bound her until she broke free.

Of course, the Nevergreen Treant had resisted Ayame’s action but Ayame’s eating speed was faster than the Nevergreen Treant’s regeneration speed.

After she freed herself, Ayame didn’t save the guide yet but instead, she went to her groupmates and slapped their faces!

A red handprint appeared on their faces but it was just a small price to pay for freeing them from the hallucination.

After they woke up from it, Ayame started eating the wooden vines to free her groupmates much to their surprise.

The first groupmate that Ayame freed was Kenshi since he was one of their combatants. When Kenshi was freed, Kenshi used his swordsmanship to cut the wooden vines that bound their groupmates.

Because of that, Ayame didn’t have to eat too many wooden vines much to her relief.

After all of their groupmates were freed, the last one they saved was the guide.

This all happened in under ten seconds.

No matter how the Nevergreen Treant attacked, Ayame would eat its attack even faster than its attack speed. Due to her Gourmet Authority, Ayame didn’t need to chew or digest the things she ate.

As long as it entered her mouth hole, Ayame could choose to activate her Gourmet Authority and eat it in an instant.

Ayame was even becoming stronger since the wooden vines proved to be nutritious for her. In other words, the Nevergreen Treant was a formidable creature but it was easily countered by Ayame’s Gourmet Authority.

If other players met the Nevergreen Treant, they would have either suffered from the hallucination sap that it secreted or they could break free from the hallucination but still suffer from being eaten alive.

Authorities were very difficult to get and they were also unique since only an authority could only be possessed by one person.

“You all wake up the guide. Kenshi, protect them from the wooden vines. I will eat this damn tree even if I hate vegetables.”

Hearing Ayame’s words, Kenshi nodded his head and listened to her as he tightly gripped his wooden sword and slashed it toward the Nevergreen Treant’s wooden vines that attacked them.

On the other hand, Ayame charged at the Nevergreen Treant and when she arrived in front of it, she bit its tree face and started eating it!

Even if it tasted like wood and it tasted very bitter, Ayame ignored the taste since she had no choice but to devour it so that she could become stronger.

In the end, the Nevergreen Treant was utterly defeated due to Ayame’s Gourmet Authority.

Even after Ayame had eaten a tall sentient tree like the Nevergreen Treant, her stomach didn’t bulge and her body was the same size as usual.

Ayame felt that her body had become stronger than before. Although it wasn’t at an exaggerated level, she was still satisfied with her improvement.

‘The Gourmet Authority is more powerful than I have expected. Unlike Kayden’s Gambling Authority which needed him to gamble with others before he could obtain their abilities or power, I just need to eat my enemies to become stronger.’

‘Although, this might lead to cannibalism if I ever fought against human enemies. My Gourmet Authority is more reliable when it comes to dealing with monsters. On the other hand, Kayden’s Gambling Authority is more effective in dealing with humans and other sentient humanoids.’

With that thought in her mind, Ayame decided to eat as many monsters and evil spirits as she could. Of course, it was only under the condition that the monster or evil spirit wasn’t that powerful.

If it was too powerful, then she wouldn’t be able to get close to them and couldn’t eat them. In the end, her Gourmet Authority still had some disadvantages when compared to Kayden’s Gambling Authority.

Shirohige and ProGamerXD expressed their gratitude, “Thanks, Ayame. We would have been eaten if not for your timely assistance.”

After chatting with her groupmates, Ayame finally shifted her attention towards the guide, “You have some explaining to do. Tell us what are the monsters that lurk in Nevergreen Forest.”

Hearing Ayame’s command, the guide seemed to feign ignorance and acted as if the situation wasn’t dire.

Instead, the guide just patted the dust on his clothes, “Thank you for saving me. I would have been digested by the acidic sap of that Nevergreen Treant if not for your timely rescue.”

Noticing that the guide turned a deaf ear to her previous inquiry, Ayame stubbornly asked again, “Since I saved you, then the least you can do is inform us about the monsters lurking in Nevergreen Forest.”

This time, the guide knew that it couldn’t feign ignorance especially when Kenshi had pointed the wooden sword towards his back. The guide had seen Kenshi in action so he knew how powerful Kenshi was.

Despite not having any authority, Kenshi’s swordsmanship was already at a superhuman level.

Because of that, the guide could only respond to Ayame’s inquiry, “I have to tell you that I’m only a guide, not a monster expert. I only know how to trek the Nevergreen Forest and Mt. Hooroo as well as other scenic spots here in Vacation Paradise Island.”

“As for the monsters that lurked inside those scenic spots, I will only obtain information about it after you all defeat that monster.”

“In other words, I can only act as both a guide and a game bestiary, but not a monster encyclopedia.”
