Chapter 143: The Phoenix Emperor’s Invitation To Weiss
Soon enough, the twelve of them decided on a sleeping arrangement.

Ayame and Bianca will sleep with each other and the same goes for Kayden and Illya. Winston will sleep with Kuroneko while Kenshi and GoldMiner will be in the same hotel room. The rest will be the Dislord admins partnering with each other.

After their room arrangement was decided, they all decided to have a sleepover with their partners in the same hotel room. They were already tired from exploring Nevergreen Forest so they didn’t hesitate to sleep immediately.

A night has passed since that incident.

It was currently daytime and Ayame woke up from her bed.

When she woke up, she saw Bianca sleeping beside her.

Ayame immediately woke Bianca up and soon enough, Bianca woke up as she rubbed her eyes and muttered, “I was right.”

“It wasn’t due to Illya that Winston survived the night. It’s due to having an even number of people inside the hotel room.”

Ayame nodded and agreed with Bianca’s words. “The only thing left is to determine whether the parity of the hotel room occupant number will remain as even or it might change to odd.”

Bianca replied, “I think it might switch back and forth between even and odd but we still need to test it later at night.”

After Bianca and Ayame woke up, they left the hotel room.

Coincidentally, they saw that most of their teammates had also woken up and had already left their hotel room.

The only ones who weren’t awake yet were Kayden and Illya. But knowing those two, they weren’t worried that something had happened to Kayden and Illya.

After all, in the previous game session, Kayden and Illya were the sole survivors.

Although they knew that Kayden and Illya weren’t in danger, they still knocked on the door of Kayden’s hotel room.

Soon enough, the door opened and Kayden went out with Illya, “Stop knocking, I’m awake now.”

From the looks of it, Kayden wanted to sleep more but he was forcefully awakened.

After Kayden woke up, their team was finally awake and ready to uncover the mysteries of the Windesburg Hotel.

Ayame declared, “To start with our investigation, we will first interrogate Tom the hotel staff. Since he is already owned by Kayden, he shouldn’t resist our commands so the interrogation will be a lot easier.”

Hearing Ayame’s declaration, Winston spoke, “Even if he doesn’t resist our command, there might be an external force that will kill and prevent him from leaking any secrets about Windesburg Hotel. And even if there wasn’t, I doubt that a low-ranking hotel staff like him would have access to the secrets of Windesburg Hotel.”

Ayame sighed, “I know that but it’s still worth the try.”

Tom was still inside JordanPlayz’s hotel room since they had previously ordered him to not leave his hotel room as well as not to harm JordanPlayz in his sleep.

So with that in mind, all of them headed to JordanPlayz’s hotel room and entered it. After seeing Tom sitting on the chair in the hotel room, Kayden walked towards Tom intending to interrogate him.

Kayden had acquired Tom’s life ownership so no matter what he wanted to command Tom, Tom would listen to him even if Kayden ordered Tom to kill himself.

When Kayden arrived in front of Tom, Kayden ordered, “Tom, tell us every secret you know about Windesburg Hotel.”

Hearing Kayden’s order, Tom’s expression became tense and he wanted to disobey Kayden’s command. However, Tom knew that he couldn’t so he could only bite the bullet.

When Tom opened his mouth and was about to reveal something to Kayden, Tom didn’t speak.

Or more like, before he could speak, Tom’s body seemed to have imploded as countless chunks of flesh, blood, and bones splattered across JordanPlayz’s hotel room.

Fortunately for them, they weren’t dirtied by it since Illya’s speed was so fast that she had already arrived in front of Kayden and blocked the chunks of human matter.

She not only blocked it so that Kayden wouldn’t be dirtied by it, but she did the same to the others by blocking Tom’s implosion with the wall of flesh she summoned.

However, the wall and chair behind Tom were dirtied by his imploded corpse. But even that wasn’t a problem since Illya used her Gluttony Authority to devour all of the mess, leaving behind a clean hotel room.

Illya could selectively choose which one she wanted to devour so she spat out the chair that Tom had previously sat on and it was as good as new without the blood and flesh stains.

Faced with Tom’s death, Kayden sighed, “See? I can’t say I didn’t expect this. But at least it was worth the try. It seems we can’t force the hotel staff to reveal the secrets of Windesburg Hotel and we can only find it out by ourselves.”

Hearing Kayden’s words, they weren’t discouraged since they still had plenty of time.

Ayame encouraged, “That doesn’t matter. We can search every nook and cranny of Windesburg Hotel and the mystery surrounding it will soon be revealed.”

Regarding Ayame’s encouragement, the rest of them nodded in agreement as they started exploring the Windesburg Hotel.

While he was brushing his teeth, he heard a notification sound from his phone so he turned on its power and checked the notification.

From the looks of it, there was a message sent to him from an unknown number.

His Majesty the Phoenix Emperor has stripped off the duke title of Tristan and has performed a thorough investigation of Tristan’s family. His Majesty invites you to have an audience with him and to compensate you, he will bestow you with the title of Duke.

It is not mandatory but His Majesty appreciates it if you can at least have an audience with him.

Reading the messages sent to him by the unknown number, Weiss could guess that it wasn’t a fake.

But to check, he decided to use his superb hacking skills.

After he finished brushing his teeth, Weiss left the bathroom and sat on his gaming chair. He then started hacking the government and the empire’s servers and database.

Although he was the greatest hacker in Blue Star, Weiss still used his reality manipulation to hack reality in order to ensure a high success rate.

Soon enough, he discovered that the unknown number came from the Viceroy and it was further proven when the message was sent to the house of the Viceroy. In other words, it wasn’t a malicious prank done by someone hostile to him and the imperial family.

After Weiss confirmed the authenticity of the Viceroy’s message, Alice appeared beside him and looked at his computer’s screen.

Reading the message sent to Weiss by the Viceroy, Alice commented, “They sure are sincere. The Duke title is only given to the relatives of the imperial family.”

“Although the Duke doesn’t have any political power and it’s just a symbolic title, it still allows Duke Tristan to be untouched in the Phoenix Empire and no one dared to offend him. But because of his son’s impudence, Duke Tristan was stripped of his title and his title was even about to be transferred to you.”

“The Duke doesn’t have any obligations and it’s mostly to serve as a title that protected the Duke and his family while within the Phoenix Empire. The Emperor was willing to go as far as bestowing you with the duke title which can only mean that he knows about your power and wants you to represent the Phoenix Empire.”

Hearing Alice’s comments, Weiss wasn’t surprised about it since Alice had already known about the background of Blue Star.

Weiss shrugged, “If I didn’t have power, it would be the other way around. The Former Duke Tristan might not be capable of executing me due to my powerful background, but my father would still have to give compensation to the duke’s family.”

“However, that wouldn’t be the case since the world will become chaotic in the future. The Phoenix Emperor knows that the world will usher into the era of players and that’s why he wanted to tie me to the Phoenix Empire by bestowing me with the Duke title.”

“Of course, the Phoenix Emperor dared not play tricks on me. So the Duke title is to only let me represent the Phoenix Empire but he likely won’t force me to participate in wars.
