Chapter 197: Playing Against The Siren’s Song
Shirohige’s first challenge was to use a musical instrument of his choosing and use it to combat a siren’s song. Shirohige didn’t leave the grand piano’s seat and affirmed to use the piano as his musical instrument.
As the first challenge began, the familiar setting of the musical theater dissolved, replaced by another scene. The ceiling of the stage transformed into a starless night, where the only illumination came from the soft glow of the moon reflecting off the dark waves of the ocean.
Suddenly, the theater found itself transported to a small, isolated island, surrounded by endless stretches of water in every direction. Weiss, Ayame, and the rest of the team felt a chill in the air as they looked out into the vast expanse of the ocean.
They were given an option to act as the audience of Shirohige’s musical challenge and if they opted out of it, they would be transported back to the musical theater and wouldn’t have to be forced to remain in the musical challenge’s realm.
Weiss asked them, “You all staying?”
Ayame nodded, “Yes, it’s all for the sake of content. As well as to support Shirohige.”
Kayden chuckled, “I’m pretty sure it’s mostly for content.”
ProGamerXD commented, “I’ll stay. And it seems I’m the most genuine one for staying here to support Shirohige.”
Kayden shrugged, “You can’t blame me. Rather than purely supporting Shirohige, I also want to experience what it’s like to see a musical performance with a powerful authority at stakes.”
Seeing that the rest of the team agreed to stay and become audiences to Shirohige’s musical performance, Weiss added, “I’ll also stay here just in case Shirohige needed more attempts.”
Weiss’ words caused confusion to the live stream viewers but most of them took it for granted since they were focused on marveling at the different angles of the musical challenge’s realm.
On a nearby rock protruding out of the water, a solitary figure sat perched, silhouetted against the moonlit sky. It was a siren—her ethereal form swaying gently with the rhythm of the waves.
The siren’s figure was illuminated by the moon’s pale light. Her long, flowing hair cascaded like dark silk down her back, kissed by the sea breeze. Her skin, pale as the foam of the waves, seemed to shimmer with an otherworldly glow.
Clad in a gown of iridescent sea green, she exuded an aura of timeless beauty and mystique. With eyes like deep pools of midnight, she gazed out over the ocean, her lips parting to unleash a haunting melody that captivated all who heard it.
As she sang, her voice carried across the water, weaving a mesmerizing melody that seemed to distort the waves and oceans themselves.
The siren’s song had mind-controlling properties but as part of the audience, Weiss, Ayame, Kayden, and ProGamerXD were unaffected by it.
On the other hand, Shirohige felt light-headed as well as experiencing headaches due to resisting the siren’s song.
Shirohige gritted his teeth as he endured and used his willpower to resist the siren’s song.
“According to the first challenge’s requirement, I need to compose a musical piece that can resist and even overpower the siren’s song. As long as I can defeat the siren through the power of my music, I’ll be able to pass this first challenge.”
Shirohige could compose music of his own so he already had experience.
Knowing what to do, Shirohige sat comfortably on the grand piano’s seat and admired the grand piano’s appearance.
The grand piano, with its polished ebony surface and graceful curves, exuded timeless elegance. The open lid revealed gleaming strings and hammers, while the pristine black and white keys enticed Shirohige to play with it. Gold-plated pedals below added a touch of luxury, making the piano a true work of art.
Since he could still resist the siren’s song, Shirohige didn’t play directly but tested the grand piano and played with it for a while as a warm-up. After getting used to it, Shirohige looked solemnly at the ocean waves as he gazed at the beautiful siren perched on top of a protruding rock.
“Here I go.”
With a deep breath, Shirohige placed his fingers on the keys and began to play. His touch was light at first, each note a cautious probe into the instrument’s capabilities.
Gradually, Shirohige became one with the piano, and the notes flowed more freely, weaving together into a melody that resonated through the night air. The grand piano responded to his skillful touch, its rich, resonant tones rising above the whispering waves.
As the siren’s song continued to echo, attempting to ensnare his mind, Shirohige’s music became a counterpoint, a beacon of clarity amidst the siren’s mind control.
He played with increasing intensity, each chord and arpeggio crafted to dispel the siren’s enchantment. His fingers danced across the keys with precision and power, creating a symphony of resilience and defiance.
The battle between Shirohige’s melody and the siren’s song became a mesmerizing duel. The siren’s haunting notes tried to infiltrate his thoughts, but Shirohige countered with a harmonious melody that pushed back the encroaching fog of her mind control.
His music soared, each passage imbued with a strength that cut through the siren’s allure like a blade.

As the final notes of his composition echoed across the water, the siren’s song faltered and then ceased.
Shirohige’s music had triumphed, breaking the siren’s song and restoring silence to the night. He lifted his hands from the keys, the piano’s last reverberations mingling with the gentle lapping of the waves, and looked out at the now silent siren, who stared back with a mix of awe and indignant defeat.
After her song was broken by Shirohige’s piano music, the siren disappeared and Shirohige was given a minute’s worth of break before the second challenge.
Shirohige sighed in relief, “I’m glad it went well.”
After Shirohige played his piano music, Weiss and the rest of the team clapped their hands.
Since they couldn’t interfere with Shirohige’s music challenge, they could only provide him with encouragement and acclamation.
Soon enough, the scene changed and Shirohige was brought to another realm for his second challenge!
