Chapter 198: Calming Natural Disasters Through The Power Of Music
This time, the scenery around Shirohige was that of a forest clearing.
He stood in an open glade bathed in soft, dappled sunlight that filtered through the canopy of towering trees encircling the space. The trees, with their thick, gnarled trunks and sprawling branches, formed a protective ring around the clearing.
The air was cool and crisp, filled with the earthy scent of moss and fallen leaves. Ferns and wildflowers dotted the forest floor, adding splashes of color to the green expanse. The gentle rustling of leaves and the distant calls of birds created a peaceful symphony.
Nearby, a clear stream wound its way through the trees, its waters sparkling as they danced over smooth stones. The clearing felt like a serene sanctuary, a tranquil haven amidst the dense forest.
The grand piano was situated at the forest clearing where Shirohige was currently at. Furthermore, the audience seats were placed at the edge of the forest clearing facing in front of Shirohige.
Several seconds after the scenery changed, Shirohige received information about the second challenge.
“For the second challenge, it seems this serene and tranquil forest will soon experience several natural disasters at the same time. This time, I need to use my music to calm a natural disaster and let it affect nature itself.”
“Wait, isn’t this too far of a stretch? At first, I was combating a siren’s song. Now, I have to use my music to calm down nature itself. If I can achieve the realm of music where I can even affect the natural laws as well as use it for combat, then I am pretty much at the advanced level of the music path.”
With that in mind, Shirohige prepared himself as he did his usual warm-up of playing the grand piano.
Soon enough, the peaceful forest clearing began to tremble.
The ground beneath him quaked violently, causing the trees surrounding the clearing to sway precariously. Suddenly, cracks appeared in the earth, splitting the ground and sending chunks of soil and rock tumbling into the growing chasms.
A fierce wind picked up, howling through the trees and whipping the leaves into a frenzy. Branches snapped and flew through the air, while the once gentle breeze became a relentless gale that threatened to topple the towering trees.
As if on cue, dark, ominous clouds gathered overhead, blocking out the sun and casting the clearing into a shadowy gloom.
Torrential rain began to pour, drenching the ground and turning the earth into mud. The small stream that had once babbled peacefully now swelled into a raging torrent, threatening to overflow and flood the area.
Then, amidst the chaos of wind and water, flames erupted. A spark ignited the dry underbrush at the edge of the clearing, and soon, a wall of fire roared to life, consuming everything in its path.
The heat was intense, the flames crackling and leaping higher with each passing moment, casting an eerie glow through the smoke-filled air.
Shirohige, seated at the grand piano, could feel the destructive forces converging around him. The forest clearing that had been a sanctuary of calm was now a battlefield of the elements, each vying for dominance and threatening to destroy the serene beauty of the natural world.
It was up to him, through his music, to restore balance and bring peace back to the chaotic scene.
Knowing that, Shirohige solemnly looked at the natural disasters that appeared, “It’s up to me now. My music had already reached a higher realm after I managed to use it to defeat a siren’s song. Now, I’ll use it to calm nature itself.”
To heighten his focus, Shirohige chanted, “Earth Stabilizing Melody!”
Taking a deep breath, Shirohige began to play a powerful, resonant melody. His fingers struck the piano keys with precision and force, producing deep, thunderous chords that reverberated through the ground.
The strong, commanding sound countered the violent tremors, stabilizing the earth and slowly closing the cracks. The ground ceased its quaking, and the once turbulent land began to settle.
“Harmonic Wind Symphony!”
Next, Shirohige shifted to a lighter, more fluid melody. His fingers danced across the keys, producing a series of rapid cascading notes that mimicked the natural flow of the wind.
The harmonious tune merged with the howling gale, gradually calming the fierce winds. The branches stopped their frenzied whipping, and the relentless gale transformed back into a gentle breeze that softly rustled the leaves.
As the wind subsided, Shirohige turned his attention to the storm. He played a soothing, melodic piece, each note carefully chosen to echo the rhythm of falling rain.
“Calm Drizzle Of After Rain!”
The gentle, calming sound of the piano permeated the air, merging with the sound of the torrential downpour. Gradually, the rain began to lessen, the dark clouds dissipating to reveal patches of clear sky. The raging torrent of the stream slowed, its waters returning to a tranquil flow.
Finally, Shirohige faced the roaring flames. He played a cool, deliberate melody, each notes a crisp, clear drop of sound.
“Water Extinguishing Musical Flow!”

The music flowed like a refreshing stream, its chill reaching out to the encroaching fire. The flames flickered and hissed as if recoiling from the cooling effect of the music.
With each passing moment, the fire diminished, its heat subsiding until only smoldering embers remained, and then, those too were extinguished.
With the elements calmed and balance restored, Shirohige lifted his hands from the keys.
The forest clearing, once a scene of chaos, was now tranquil, but not unscathed.
The trees, though no longer swaying dangerously, bore broken branches and scorched bark.
The air was still but carried the lingering scent of smoke and rain. The stream had calmed, its waters flowing more gently, but the banks were eroded, and debris littered its path. The ground, while no longer shaking, was marred by cracks and patches of scorched earth.
Shirohige sighed, “That was intense. I thought I couldn’t make it but it seemed I played it perfectly.”
“The only problem left is the third challenge which is the final challenge. As long as I complete it, I’ll obtain the Music Authority.”
