Chapter 235: Reading The Massive Book At The Gallery Hall
“We did it,” Kuroneko said, lowering his grimoire and speaking in his usual chuuni dialog, “The Spectral Custodian has been vanquished. May its soul be eternally set ablaze by the flames of the abyss.”
Shirohige nodded, his fingers still lingering on the piano keys. “A worthy opponent, but no match for our combined strength.”
JordanPlayz twirled his trident, the water jets calming around it. “Let’s hope the next enemies put up a better fight.”
GoldMiner retrieved his daggers, which shimmered back into his control. “Agreed. But for now, we should press on and see what other secrets this place holds.”
ProGamerXD dispelled his constructs, his expression softening. “Let’s move forward. The secrets of the Gallery Hall of Whispers are ours to uncover.”
With their victory secured, Ayame and her team were now given the time to read the book guarded by the deceased spectral custodian.
The Dislord admins were celebrating their first elite boss battle that succeeded in their victory.
If Maverick Windesburg was considered the final boss or last boss in the Windesburg Hotel, then the spectral custodian could be considered an elite boss in game terms.
Those security guards weren’t included since they were just considered normal mobs that could easily be defeated like the weak goblins and slimes in an RPG.
With their victory against the spectral custodian, no one left was hindering them from reading the book on the pedestal.
Because of that, Kayden carefully opened the massive, leather-bound book, the symbol on its cover glowing faintly in the dim light.
The pages within were ancient, yellowed with age, and filled with dense, cryptic text and intricate illustrations.
As he flipped through the pages, Kayden and the team discovered a trove of forbidden knowledge that was not directly related to Maverick Windesburg’s dark secrets but still immensely valuable and dangerous.
The first section detailed the history of lost souls who had wandered into the Gallery Hall of Whispers over the centuries.
These were not victims of Maverick Windesburg but rather other unfortunate souls who had become trapped in the hotel’s web of dark magic.
Or rather, they weren’t direct victims of Maverick Windesburg but were unfortunate guys who got caught up in Maverick Windesburg’s dark magic spells that were placed in the hotel.
Each soul’s story was vividly described, their final moments captured in haunting detail, and their faces eerily familiar from the portraits lining the walls.
Further into the book, Kayden found descriptions of various rituals for binding spirits and entities to physical objects or locations. These rituals explained the presence of the spectral custodian and other anomalies within the hotel.
The detailed instructions for these dark rites hinted at powerful, ancient dark magic, revealing how the hotel’s evil influence had been strengthened and maintained over time.
The book also contained a section on forbidden spells and incantations, written in a language that seemed to shift and change as they read.
These spells covered a wide range of dark magic, from summoning lesser demons to manipulating time and space within the confines of the hotel.
Kuroneko took a peek and he exclaimed, “Damn! Some of these spells are present in my Duality of Black And White and those are the higher-end ones. Even I can’t use them without paying a price since my synchronization rate with Shironeko isn’t that high yet.”
Kuroneko, with his grimoire, recognized some of the spells as incredibly dangerous and powerful, capable of causing great harm if misused.
Intriguingly, the book included several maps of the hotel, marked with hidden passages and secret rooms that were not on any known blueprints.
These maps showed the labyrinthine structure of the hotel, revealing shortcuts and hidden areas that could be vital for the team’s exploration and escape. Some passages were marked with warnings of traps and deadly guardians.
Seeing the maps, Kayden commented, “It seems we don’t have to rely on my shoe anymore. This map is more detailed rather than relying on my shoe for navigation.”
In response to that, Bianca shook her head, “Your shoe is more reliable. We still aren’t certain if the information revealed in this book can be trusted or not.”
Kuroneko commented, “I don’t know about the information in the book, but the dark magic and black magic spells listed in this are all genuine.”
While remaining skeptical, that didn’t stop Kayden from further prying into the book as he continued flipping its pages.
Towards the end of the book, Kayden discovered a prophecy related to the hotel itself.

It spoke of a time when the hotel’s dark magic would culminate in a catastrophic event, triggered by the awakening of an ancient entity slumbering beneath the hotel.
The prophecy hinted that certain conditions needed to be met for this entity to awaken, and it implied that preventing this awakening was crucial to stopping the hotel’s malevolent influence from spreading.
Surprisingly, the final pages contained a list of names and brief descriptions of individuals who had once opposed the hotel’s dark magic.
These individuals were noted to have unique abilities or knowledge that could be valuable allies in their quest.
The list was old, and it was uncertain how many of these potential allies were still alive or willing to help, but it provided a glimmer of hope.
Kayden closed the book, his mind racing with the implications of what they had discovered.
While they had not uncovered Maverick Windesburg’s deepest secrets, the knowledge contained within the book was a powerful tool.
It offered them the means to navigate the perilous halls of the hotel, counteract its dark magic, and potentially find allies in their fight against the malevolent forces at play.
“We need to use this information wisely,” Kayden said, looking at the team. “There’s a lot here that can help us, but we have to be careful. This place is more dangerous than we ever imagined.”
Ayame sighed, “And let’s not forget that whether it is the prophecy mentioned in the book or the so-called allies, we aren’t certain if it’s the truth or deceptive information written by Maverick Windesburg to fool us.”
