Chapter 238: Ayame Vs Phantom Dancers And Spectral Musicians
The first phantom dancer noticed their presence and glided towards Ayame with fluid, martial movements. Ghostly blades of energy spun around the dancer, aimed at Ayame.
Ayame braced herself and then charged forward, her gauntlet-clad fist smashing through the ghostly blades, Shirohige’s music allowing her to touch and harm the ethereal entities.
She swung her fist again, and the impact sent the phantom dancer reeling.
The spectral musician nearby retaliated, sending a wave of ghostly music attacks toward Ayame, but she opened her mouth and devoured the attack, feeling a surge of power as the ghostly energy was absorbed into her being.
Ayame had already decided to use her Gourmet Authority to eat these monsters and evil spirits even if they were unpalatable. After all, her Gourmet Authority could allow her to eat and digest anything so she didn’t have to worry about food poisoning.
Bianca stepped up beside Ayame, using her Equality Authority to ensure the physical attributes of the phantom dancers and spectral musicians were brought to a level playing field.
“I’ve equalized their power with mine. Let’s show them what we’ve got!” Bianca shouted.
With newfound determination, Ayame launched herself at the phantom dancers.
Their dance was fluid and deadly, a mix of martial arts and spectral elegance, but Ayame’s physical strength, enhanced by Shirohige’s music, allowed her to counter their attacks.
She ducked under a spinning kick, her gauntlet smashing into another dancer, sending it crashing to the floor.
The spectral musicians tried to support their dancing comrades with more ghostly melodies, but Ayame turned her attention to them, devouring their attacks as they came.
Each bite increased her power, and she felt herself becoming more attuned to the spectral energy of the ballroom.
One particularly agile phantom dancer twirled towards her, launching a series of rapid strikes.
Ayame blocked and countered with a swift uppercut, her gauntlet glowing with the power of the earth. The dancer disintegrated into a shower of ghostly sparks.
Ayame immediately dropped to the ground and started eating the remains of the phantom dancer, feeling her physical body becoming lighter as she gained the ability to become incorporeal.
Not only could she devour the attributes of her opponent, but she also had the chance to obtain the abilities of her opponents by eating them.
In other words, Ayame didn’t even need Kayden’s assistance if she ever wanted to obtain Illya’s Gluttony Authority. As long as she ate Illya, she would have a chance to obtain her Gluttony Authority.
However, even without Kayden’s Forced Gambling ability, Ayame didn’t have any idea of devouring Illya’s Gluttony Authority since she had already treated Illya like how she treated Winston.
Despite the two of them being Special NPCs, Ayame didn’t discriminate against them and treated them as her comrades.
Meanwhile, Bianca focused on providing support. Using her Equality Authority, she weakened the remaining dancers, ensuring their attacks were less effective. “Ayame, I’m keeping them at bay. Finish them off!” she yelled.
Ayame nodded and continued her assault, her movements now faster and more fluid thanks to the skills she had absorbed.
She became an unstoppable force, her punches and kicks shattering the phantom dancers one by one.
The spectral musicians tried to retreat, but Ayame was relentless, devouring their ghostly attacks and closing the distance with lightning speed.
With a powerful strike, Ayame shattered the last of the spectral musicians, and the ballroom finally fell silent.
The crimson glow seemed to fade slightly as if the malevolent energy that had filled the room was dissipating. Ayame stood in the center of the ballroom, breathing heavily but victorious.
Shirohige’s music slowly came to a stop, and he turned to Ayame with a proud smile. “You did it. The ballroom is clear.”
Ayame nodded, wiping the sweat from her brow. “Thanks to your music and Bianca’s support, we made it through. But this place still holds many secrets. We need to find out what happened here.”
As the team gathered, Ayame’s eyes were drawn to a large, ornate chandelier hanging precariously from the ceiling.
It was covered in cobwebs, and its once-glittering crystals were now dull and lifeless.
Intrigued, she walked over to the base of the chandelier, noticing a pattern on the floor beneath it that looked different from the rest of the ballroom.

“There’s something odd about this,” she murmured, kneeling to examine the floor. She traced the intricate designs with her fingers, feeling a faint warmth emanating from them. “Kuroneko, can you use your dark magic to reveal any hidden mechanisms or traps here?”
Kuroneko nodded and stepped forward, his grimoire, the Duality of Black And White, floating before him.
He muttered an incantation, and the air around him grew heavy with dark energy. Shadows began to swirl around his hands as he directed his magic towards the floor beneath the chandelier.
The ground began to shift and shimmer, revealing a hidden compartment.
The team watched in awe as the compartment slowly opened, revealing an old, bloodstained diary hidden beneath the floorboards.
Ayame carefully picked up the diary, its leather cover cracked and worn with age. She opened it to the first page, revealing handwritten entries that detailed the events leading up to a horrific massacre.
“This must be it,” she said, her voice tinged with both dread and curiosity. “Let’s see what it says.”
The team gathered around Ayame as she read aloud from the diary.
The entries spoke of a grand ball that ended in tragedy, orchestrated by Maverick Windesburg to harvest souls for his dark rituals.
The pages were filled with descriptions of the guests’ last moments, their terror and confusion as they realized what was happening.
“These souls were trapped here,” Shirohige said quietly. “No wonder the ballroom was so filled with malevolent energy. Their spirits were bound to this place, forced to relive that night over and over.”
Ayame nodded grimly. “Maverick used this ballroom as a key part of his dark rituals. We have to find a way to free these souls and stop him for good.”
Kuroneko stepped forward, his eyes gleaming with determination. “I’ll handle this, let me cook.”
