Chapter 268: Tag! You’re My Servant!
When Ayame and her team decided to leave the Abandoned Nursery, they halted their steps after hearing the sounds of children’s laughter.
The eerie sound echoed through the hallway, sending chills down their spines.
They turned around, their eyes scanning the room for the source of the laughter.
Suddenly, a small, translucent figure materialized before them. It was the ghostly form of a little boy, his appearance both haunting and sorrowful.
He had large, innocent eyes and wore a tattered outfit, his form flickering like a candle flame. Despite his ghostly appearance, there was a palpable aura of power emanating from him.
“Who are you?” Ayame asked gently, stepping forward cautiously.
“My name is Timothy,” the boy replied, his voice a haunting whisper that seemed to reverberate through the walls. “I was one of his experiments, but I didn’t turn out the way he wanted. He called me a failure.”
Kuroneko’s eyes narrowed as he scanned the spectral figure. “Timothy, what can you tell us about your powers?”
Timothy looked down, his ghostly form trembling. “I can force anyone to play a game with me. Tag. If I catch someone, they become my property, completely subservient and loyal to me, like a puppet.”
The team exchanged uneasy glances, understanding the power of Timothy’s ability.
Bianca stepped forward, her voice soft but firm. “Timothy, we want to help you. We want to stop Maverick and free all the souls trapped here. Can you tell us how to do that?”
Timothy’s eyes flickered with hope and determination. “You have to play with me. If you win, I’ll be free from this curse and I can help you. But if you lose… you become my puppet.”
Ayame took a deep breath and nodded. “Alright, Timothy. We’ll play with you. Let’s end this suffering once and for all.”
The room seemed to darken as Timothy prepared to initiate the game. His form grew more solid, and the air around them crackled with ominous energy.
The drawings on the walls twisted and warped, reflecting the gravity of the situation.
“You have to last ten minutes without getting caught,” Timothy explained. “You can use your abilities and items, but you can’t attack me directly. If I touch you, you lose.”
The team nodded, understanding the rules.
“Are you ready?” Timothy asked, his voice echoing eerily.
Ayame nodded, her expression resolute. “We’re ready.”
The game began, and Timothy’s form flickered as he moved with inhuman speed. The team scattered, each member using their abilities to evade the ghostly boy.
JordanPlayz was the first to face Timothy’s pursuit. The boy moved with an unsettling speed, his ghostly form almost gliding across the ground.
As Timothy closed in, JordanPlayz raised his trident, invoking his Water Authority. His body began to transform, becoming a fluid, watery form.
When Timothy reached out to tag him, his hand passed through the water harmlessly.
But Timothy’s eyes narrowed. “You can’t hide in water. If I touch even a part of your transformed body, it’s still a tag.”
Realizing this, JordanPlayz reverted to his normal form, using his trident to summon a wave that propelled him away from Timothy.
The young boy continued his relentless pursuit, but JordanPlayz managed to stay ahead, the water propelling him with incredible speed. Fortunately, the water touched by Timothy wasn’t part of his water-transformed body or else he would have been tagged.
Meanwhile, Winston activated his Eye of Insight, calculating Timothy’s next move. “He’s going to target Kuroneko next,” Winston called out, using his Mirror Authority to create several reflections of himself.
These reflections spread out, confusing Timothy and buying the team precious seconds.
Kuroneko, hearing Winston’s warning, began to chant from his grimoire. “Dark Magic: Shadow Step!”
His form dissolved into a shadow, blending into the dark corners of the room.

Timothy hesitated, looking around with a frown.
Timothy’s attention then turned to Weiss, who hadn’t moved an inch.
He dashed toward him, but upon reaching Weiss, Timothy found himself unable to tag him.
Weiss’ Barrier Authority created an invisible barrier that repelled Timothy’s touch.
“This isn’t fair!” Timothy complained, glaring at Weiss.
Weiss simply shrugged, “I’m not the one you should be targeting. Try the others.”
Grumbling, Timothy shifted his focus back to the rest of the team.
GoldMiner was next on his list.
GoldMiner used his Midas Authority to turn the floor into gold, creating a slick, reflective surface. The gold mirrored Timothy’s movements, making it difficult for him to pinpoint GoldMiner’s location.
Despite his efforts, Timothy’s speed and determination proved too much. He zigzagged through the golden maze, and before GoldMiner could react, Timothy lunged forward, tagging him.
GoldMiner’s eyes glazed over, and he became a puppet under Timothy’s control.
“One down,” Timothy said with a cold smile.
The remaining team members redoubled their efforts.
ProGamerXD used his Shipwright Authority to summon a series of barriers and obstacles, creating a maze-like environment to slow Timothy down.
He weaved through the constructs, barely staying ahead of Timothy’s relentless pursuit.
Timothy targeted JordanPlayz again, and this time, he was ready.
Using his Water Authority, JordanPlayz summoned a thick fog to obscure Timothy’s vision.
However, Timothy anticipated this move and dashed through the mist, catching JordanPlayz off guard.
With a quick tap, JordanPlayz fell to the ground, his eyes blank and subservient.
“Two down,” Timothy announced, his voice filled with eerie glee.
Bianca activated her Equality Authority, attempting to level the playing field by matching Timothy’s speed to hers.
She darted around the room, using her agility to stay just out of Timothy’s reach. But Timothy adapted quickly, and with a sudden burst of speed, he tagged Bianca, adding her to his collection of puppets.
“Three down,” Timothy said, his smile widening.
Illya, relying on her Gluttony Authority, tried to absorb the ambient energy in the room to boost her speed and agility. However, she realized that it wasn’t as efficient as Ayame’s Gourmet Authority since her Gluttony Authority was more suited for satiating hunger than the aspect of becoming stronger through eating.
She dashed away from Timothy, but he was relentless.
In a desperate move, she used dark magic and summoned a wall of shadows to block his path, but Timothy phased through it effortlessly, tagging Illya and bringing her under his control.
“Four down,” Timothy declared, his eyes gleaming with triumph.
