Chapter 272: Shadow Hounds
After liberating the souls of the children in the Abandoned Nursery, Ayame and her team felt a brief moment of relief. However, they knew their journey was far from over.
Stepping out of the eerie nursery, they found themselves back in the luxurious hallway of Windesburg Hotel. The lavish decor of the surroundings starkly contrasted with the dark, sinister energy they could feel lurking around them.
Kayden took the lead, flipping his shoe to navigate their path as usual.
The shoe pointed them toward a grand staircase, and they followed its direction with a mix of caution and determination. It didn’t take long before they encountered an obstruction – one of the monsters patrolling the hotel grounds.
From the shadows, several black, smoke-like dogs with glowing red eyes emerged.
The creatures, known as Shadow Hounds, began to surround them, their presence making the air feel colder and more oppressive.
Kuroneko sighed as he observed the hounds. “These Shadow Hounds were mentioned in the massive leather book. They’re released due to the dark miasma in the hotel becoming thicker. It’s a prelude to our confrontation with Maverick Windesburg. It won’t be long before we face him.”
The team readied themselves for battle, each member focusing on their strengths and the authorities they wielded.
Kayden stepped forward, activating his Rock Paper Scissors Authority glowing faintly.
He faced one of the Shadow Hounds and invoked his power. “Rock, paper, scissors, shoot!” he called out, forcing the hound to play the death game with him.
The Shadow Hound, unable to refuse, raised its smoke-like paw, and the game commenced.
Kayden chose rock while the hound chose scissors.
The result was instantaneous – the Shadow Hound let out a pained yelp before disintegrating into dark mist.
Seeing this, the other Shadow Hounds growled menacingly and lunged at the team.
Winston quickly activated his Mirror Authority, summoning mirror portals to transport the hounds away from them. He created a network of mirrors, confusing the hounds and buying the team precious time.
Ayame, utilizing her newly obtained Tag Authority, transformed into an incorporeal form, a skill she had acquired after devouring the Phantom Dancer from the Gallery Hall of Whispers.
Her body became swift and agile, allowing her to slip past the hounds’ attacks. She dodged and weaved through their assaults, her movements like a phantom herself.
As she approached one of the Shadow Hounds, she reached out and touched it, tagging it. The hound’s eyes glowed briefly before it submitted to her will.
Ayame commanded the tagged hound to turn on its kin, creating chaos among the attacking pack.
Kuroneko assisted from the sidelines, using his dark magic to summon shadow bindings that stopped the hounds from reaching Ayame. “Dark Magic: Shadow Bind!” he chanted, and tendrils of darkness wrapped around several hounds, immobilizing them.
Despite their efforts, the waves of Shadow Hounds seemed endless.
The team realized they needed to keep pushing forward, utilizing all their abilities to overcome the relentless assault.
ProGamerXD used his Shipwright Authority to construct barriers and obstacles, slowing the hounds’ advance. He created walls and mazes out of thin air, causing the hounds to scatter and regroup.
JordanPlayz, wielding his Trident of Poseidon’s Wrath, summoned torrents of water to wash away the hounds. The water surged through the hallway, sweeping several hounds off their feet and dissipating their smoke-like forms.
GoldMiner used his Midas Authority and stomped on the floor, turning sections of the floor into gold, summoning golden spikes from the ground those as he manipulated the floor surfaces that turned into gold to impale the Shadow Hounds.
Kenshi, with his Sword Authority, summoned a flurry of blades that created a protective barrier around the team. The blades whirled and sliced through the hounds, reducing their numbers significantly.
Bianca activated her Equality Authority, matching the power level of the hounds to hers. This made them vulnerable to the team’s attacks and evened the playing field.
Despite their coordinated efforts, the Shadow Hounds continued to press forward. The team fought valiantly, but the sheer number of hounds seemed overwhelming.
After all, even millions of ants could take down an elephant. It also doesn’t help that the Shadow Hounds were quite powerful on their own, let alone hundreds of them coming in waves.
Kayden, focusing on his Rock Paper Scissors Authority, forced more hounds to play the death game with him. Each time, his inherent luck ensured his victory, causing the hounds to disintegrate one by one.

Ayame, now flanked by the Shadow Hounds she had tagged, used them as a shield and a weapon. The tagged hounds fought their untagged kin, creating a buffer for the team to regroup and plan their next move.
As the battle raged on, Ayame and her team continued to fend off the relentless Shadow Hounds.
The air was thick with dark energy, and the oppressive atmosphere weighed heavily on their shoulders.
Despite the overwhelming odds, the team’s coordinated efforts began to turn the tide.
Winston’s mirror portals kept transporting the hounds away, disrupting their formations and giving the team much-needed breathing room.
“Keep pushing forward!” Winston shouted, his eyes scanning for any sign of a break in the assault.
Kuroneko’s shadow bindings held several hounds in place, making them easy targets for the rest of the team. “Dark Magic: Shadow Bind!” he chanted again, his voice echoing through the hallway as more tendrils of darkness wrapped around their foes.
Ayame’s incorporeal form allowed her to move swiftly through the battlefield, tagging hound after hound.
Each tagged hound turned against its kin, creating chaos among the attackers. “We can do this!” she called out, her voice filled with determination.
JordanPlayz continued to summon torrents of water with his Trident of Poseidon’s Wrath, washing away the hounds and clearing a path for the team. “We’re making progress!” he yelled, his trident glowing with power.
GoldMiner’s golden spikes impaled the hounds, their forms dissipating into dark mist upon impact.
He urged, turning more sections of the floor into gold to create obstacles for the hounds, “We have to keep moving!”
