Chapter 292: Arriving At An Active Volcano
With Shirohige’s music bolstering their spirits, Ayame and her team regrouped and launched a renewed assault on Maverick.
They fought with everything they had, their powers combining in a desperate attempt to bring down the twisted mage.
Kenshi’s Sword of Time clashed with Maverick’s tentacles, cutting through the dark energy with each strike.
Kuroneko’s Shadow Authority worked tirelessly to counter Maverick’s dark magic, while Bianca and GoldMiner continued their strategic attacks, trying to find any opening.
But no matter how hard they fought, Maverick seemed unstoppable. His new form granted him unparalleled strength, and his connection to the Outer Gods only amplified his power.
The battle dragged on, each moment more grueling than the last.
Then, with a final, earth-shattering blow, Maverick unleashed a wave of dark energy that sent Ayame and her team sprawling. They were battered, exhausted, and barely able to stand.
Maverick chuckled, a deep, rumbling sound that echoed through the battlefield. “Pathetic. Did you really think you stood a chance against me?”
Ayame struggled to her feet, her vision blurred. “We’re not… done yet…” she panted, but even she knew the situation was dire.
As Maverick prepared to deliver the finishing blow, time itself seemed to slow. Weiss, watching from the sidelines, knew there was no other choice.
He activated his Game Over Retry Authority, rewinding time just minutes before Maverick had arrived on the battlefield.
Ayame and her team found themselves back where they started, their memories of the battle intact. They were alive and in their peak condition.
“Again,” Weiss commanded, his voice firm. “This time, be prepared.”
“Or rather, let’s use another method. The true method to defeat Maverick Windesburg despite him receiving his power up.”
Ayame and her team, disoriented from the sudden time rewind, tried to make sense of what had just happened.
The memories of their defeat were still fresh in their minds, and the looming threat of Maverick Windesburg was ever-present.
“Wait, what do you mean ‘another method’?” Ayame asked, her confusion evident in her voice.
Weiss, his expression calm but serious, turned to face the group. “The power Maverick has gained from the Outer Gods has made him nearly invincible. Conventional tactics won’t work against him, not in his current state.”
“So what do we do?” Kenshi asked, his grip tightening on the hilt of his sword.
“We need to weaken him before we can defeat him,” Weiss explained. “There’s an ancient ritual, one that requires a very specific sacrifice. Although it was right for you all to suspect the guide and take control of him, but he’s more than just a simple NPC.”
“He’s tied to the dark magic that binds this island. To break Maverick’s power, we need to sacrifice the guide in a place of immense energy—an active volcano.”
Kuroneko’s eyes widened as he recalled that the guide had been left in the care of the Windesburg Hotel staff.
Realizing the urgency of the situation, he nodded and immediately used his Shadow Authority. His form dissolved into the shadows, slipping away to retrieve the guide.
“We barely have any time left before Maverick catches up to us,” Ayame said, her voice laced with urgency.
Bianca, who had been quietly assessing the situation, stepped forward. “I can get us to the volcano in time,” she said. “My Exchange Authority has improved—I can now exchange myself and others with the air itself. It’s basically instant teleportation, but it’s going to drain me completely.”
Ayame hesitated. “Are you sure you can handle it?”
Bianca nodded, determination in her eyes. “If we want to win, we have to go all in.”
As they prepared for the teleportation, Kuroneko reappeared from the shadows, the guide in tow. The guide looked confused and frightened, but there was no time for explanations.
“Ready?” Weiss asked, his gaze shifting to Bianca.
With a deep breath, Bianca activated her Exchange Authority. In an instant, the entire group was enveloped in a soft glow, their forms shifting and blending with the air around them.

It felt as if they were weightless, floating through space, before they suddenly reappeared in a completely different location.
As the group reappeared on the edge of a massive, active volcano, the air thick with heat and the smell of sulfur. The volcano’s crater was filled with roiling magma, its surface bubbling ominously.
However, the environment was not as natural as it should have been—the influence of the Outer Gods had distorted the landscape, warping the very essence of the volcano.
The sky above was dark and twisted, with strange, otherworldly shapes swirling within the clouds
But the most immediate concern was Bianca. The teleportation had drained her completely—her face was pale, and she was barely able to stand. Her breathing was shallow, and her eyes struggled to stay open.
“Bianca!” Ayame rushed to her side, catching her just as she began to collapse. “Hang in there!”
Bianca weakly shook her head, a faint smile on her lips. “I… I’m fine. Just… used up too much energy,” she whispered, her voice barely audible.
Ayame quickly reached into her bag and pulled out the Phoenix Feather Quill, an artifact they had obtained three months ago but hadn’t been used yet due to them relying on Weiss’ Game Over Retry Authority.
Without hesitation, she gently rolled up Bianca’s sleeve and wrote the word “Revive” on her skin with the quill.
As soon as the quill touched Bianca’s skin, orange-colored letters appeared, glowing with a warm, fiery light. The moment the word was fully written, the letters pulsed, and a surge of energy flowed through Bianca’s body.
However, as soon as it was used, the Phoenix Feather Quill shattered into pieces since it was only a one-time use item.
Bianca gasped as her strength rapidly returned, her complexion improving as the exhaustion faded away. Within moments, she was back to her peak state, her eyes clear and full of determination.
“Thank you, Ayame,” Bianca said, her voice stronger now.
Ayame smiled in relief. “We can’t afford to lose you now. We need everyone at their best.”
