Chapter 33: Fighting Against An A-rank Zombie
The A-rank zombie attempted to evade the attack but when he was doing so, he inexplicably lost his balance and was about to fall on the ground.
Using his lightning power, he managed to prevent himself from falling on the ground but shifting his focus and attention towards that had caused him to lack the time to evade the flame and ice bullets.
When the flame and ice bullets came into contact with the A-rank zombie, the flame and ice elements within it collided with the lightning on the A-rank zombie’s body.
The A-rank zombie had not only used his lightning to improve his agility but to also wrap it around his body as armor. So when the flame and ice bullets managed to penetrate the lighting armor, the left was already negligible and it couldn’t do any harm to the A-rank zombie’s skin.
However, Winston wasn’t discouraged when he saw that his attacks became ineffective.
After all, when the A-rank zombie focused its attention on dodging Winston’s flame and ice bullets, Ayame had taken advantage of that and had already arrived in front of the A-rank zombie.
“Gravity Impact!”
Ayame’s fist was coated in gravity power. The weight of her fist was several times heavier due to the influence of gravity.
When her fist landed on the A-rank zombie’s face, the A-rank zombie’s skull started to crack until her fist obliterated the lower half of the A-rank zombie’s skull.
Not giving the A-rank zombie enough time to react, Ayame retracted her fist and formed her hand into a hand knife. Afterward, she imbued the space element into it and chopped towards the A-rank zombie, “Space Severing Hand!”
Despite being a B-rank awakener, Ayame’s stats were all at A- grade.
Decreasing the weight on her body using gravity, Ayame’s speed became even faster as she slashed and cut the A-rank zombie’s body into multiple pieces in under a second!
The head of the A-rank zombie was already severed from its body, ending its life. Furthermore, under Ayame’s deliberate control, she had only destroyed the lower part of the A-rank zombie’s head, preventing the A-rank evolution crystal from being damaged.
Still under the state of her space severing hand, Ayame dug her hand towards the A-rank zombie’s skull until she pulled her hand. In her hand was a chunk of the A-rank zombie’s brain and after using her space manipulation, she removed the zombie brain matter until it revealed a transparent gray crystal.
It was worth noting that all evolution crystals have the same gray color. However, players could easily distinguish the difference between them due to the game’s AI.
Players would receive an instinctive feeling when obtaining special event items or evolution crystals and they would know what grade/rank it was.
As for the other method of distinguishing it which was the method that NPCs used, they based it on the viral energy contained within the evolution crystal.
A B-rank awakener would know it’s an A-rank evolution crystal since the viral energy contained within it was higher than the previous B-rank evolution crystals that he had obtained.
And as a player, Ayame had instinctively known that the evolution crystal on her hand was an A-rank evolution crystal. But in reality, the instinctive feeling the players would receive was due to the game AI of Zombie Survival Online that Weiss had developed.
Although Weiss made Zombie Survival Online feel realistic, he didn’t fully limit it to the point it’s similar to the real world. He balanced realism as well as game elements so that it would still feel like one was playing a game.
After all, it wasn’t Weiss’ intention to make his games feel like a separate world. Adding the special event NPCs and the player status screen alone made the game world possess game elements while the realistic sensation in the game made it add realism to the game world.
So rather than a separate world, the game world would feel like a 100% sensitivity full-dive virtual reality.
…
With the defeat of the A-rank zombie, Ayame acquired the A-rank evolution crystal and returned to Winston and Kayden’s side via teleportation.
Seeing Ayame holding the A-rank evolution crystal, Winston decided, “Let’s do it the same as usual. You will be the first to reach A-rank followed by Kayden then me.”
During the past month, that was the order that Winston had decided for his team’s allocation of the evolution crystals.
Rather than distributing it, Winston decided to focus it on Ayame until the evolution crystal was no longer effective to her then it was followed by Kayden.
Ayame was their main combatant so Winston focused the allocation of evolution crystal to her. On the other hand, Kayden’s luck manipulation was also very useful compared to Winston’s ice and flame elemental bullet.
Winston mostly existed as Kayden’s bodyguard when defending Kayden from zombies while Kayden was focusing on using his luck manipulation.
Winston’s role in combat wasn’t as high as Kayden’s since if there was an enemy that both Ayame and Kayden couldn’t defeat, then Winston couldn’t deal damage to it as well.

Just like the previous battle, Winston’s role was just to distract the A-rank zombie with his ice and flame bullets.
On the other hand, Kayden inflicted bad luck on the A-rank zombie which made it lose its balance. The good luck he added to Ayame had also made Ayame’s attack easily land on the A-rank zombie’s head.
So, it would be more efficient if Ayame and Kayden increased their rank first compared to him.
In regards to Winston’s allocation, Ayame and Kayden didn’t disagree.
Consuming evolution crystal of the same rank would only increase the power of the awakener to the peak stage of that rank. Both Ayame, Kayden, and Winston were already at the peak of B-rank.
On the other hand, consuming an evolution crystal of a higher rank would increase an awakener’s rank.
Using his luck manipulation, Kayden transferred good luck to Ayame, decreasing the chances of her failure in her awakening to A-rank.
“It’s troublesome and time-consuming to return to the mansion so just awaken here. Kayden and I will protect you.”
