Chapter 61: Underground Laboratory Location???
Although the mutant tree was an A-rank zombie, it still was at a disadvantage against Ayame and Winston.
After playing with the mutant tree for a while, Ayame became serious as she teleported behind it and punched her fist toward the center of its trunk!
“Gravity Impact!”
Ayame’s fist easily penetrated a hole through the mutant tree’s trunk.
Before the mutant tree could regenerate from its injuries, Ayame had already located the evolution crystal of the mutant tree.
The mutant tree would skillfully move the location of its evolution crystal throughout its body to prevent it from being removed from its body. Only mutant plants and a few exceptions could move their evolution crystal in their body.
Although an evolution crystal was quite durable, its durability was based on its rank. An A-rank evolution crystal would be destroyed by the full power attack of a peak A-rank Awakener.
Ayame made sure to prevent the destruction of the mutant tree’s evolution crystal so she didn’t use her strongest attack. Fortunately, she was able to defeat the mutant tree without its evolution crystal being destroyed.
After she had located the mutant tree’s evolution crystal, Ayame took a stone from the ground and held it in her right hand. Afterward, she used her space manipulation to switch the stone with the mutant tree’s evolution crystal, causing the stone in her hand to be replaced with the evolution crystal.
When the evolution crystal was removed from its body, the mutant tree lost its sentience and died. All that was left was its “corpse” which was a tall tree stronger and more durable than the average wood.
Although the corpse of an A-rank mutant tree could be used to create durable houses or bases, Ayame didn’t care much about it since it wasn’t her goal to survive in this world but to complete the game.
The game AI had already informed her that as long as she completed the game, she and her teammates would obtain rewards based on contribution. Regardless of whether more than three players were surviving in the game world, the game would end and only the players who completed the game would be rewarded.
This only applied to players and Ayame didn’t know if an NPC like Winston would ever receive any reward for assisting the players. The game AI didn’t answer her question regarding that and Winston himself also didn’t tell her about it.
Ayame didn’t care much about it since what was important for her was that she would receive the rewards of completing the game with Bianca. If Winston didn’t want to tell her, then she wouldn’t force him.
So after killing the A-rank mutant tree, Ayame ignored its corpse and didn’t bother to store it in her space manipulation’s space storage. Furthermore, it would take up too much space in the space storage bracelet.
With the mutant tree’s A-rank evolution crystal in her right hand, Ayame teleported back to Winston and Bianca.
Afterward, Ayame handed the evolution crystal to Bianca, “Here.”
Hearing Ayame’s words, Bianca stopped restoring her viral energy and received the evolution crystal from her, “Thanks.”
…
A few days after that incident, Ayame, Bianca, and Winston were now all at the peak stage of A-rank.
Currently, the three of them were standing in front of a huge skyscraper. Their journey to find the laboratory where the zombie virus originated from had bore results. From their findings, the laboratory was likely located under a huge skyscraper.
“From what I remember, the huge skyscraper is owned by a rich multi-billionaire. My father has connections with that multi-billionaire and the underground laboratory is likely located here.”
Winston told Ayame and Bianca as they stood outside cautiously.
The three of them had already noticed human presence within the skyscraper so they dared not recklessly enter it.
Unlike the buildings surrounding it which lacked lighting, the skyscraper had both electricity and lighting inside it which probably was due to using a generator.
Since the zombie apocalypse had started, electricity was a scarce resource as the power supply was shut down.
Only human bases and military bases in the zombie apocalypse would use generators since not all human survivors had access to them. Like the three of them, most human survivors would become wanderers rather than joining or building a base.
However, even food resources from stores and factories would inevitably be consumed so human bases and military bases would establish farms inside the base. The problem of plant mutation could be solved by having an Awakener with a plant-based superpower.
In Ayame’s case, she didn’t have to worry about those since the first time she played Zombie Survival Online, Kayden provided the food resources. And in the second time, she copied Kayden’s route in procuring food resources so Ayame didn’t have to join any human bases or military bases.
Because of that, the three of them didn’t have to worry about looting food resources from stores or factories. They all focused on finding the underground laboratory to discover the secret and mastermind behind the zombie virus so that they could complete the game.

Standing outside the skyscraper, the three of them hadn’t entered it yet and were waiting for the humans inside to respond.
Winston used his Eye of Insight and gazed at the skyscraper before informing Ayame and Bianca, “There aren’t any players inside and all of them are NPCs. However, there seemed to be a special NPC similar to myself inside the skyscraper.”
Winston’s Eye of Insight was very useful when it came to distinguishing the identity of NPCs and players.
Knowing that the skyscraper didn’t have any players residing inside it, Ayame, Bianca, and Winston further believed that they had come to the right place.
Only the location of the underground laboratory would have no player presence since they either died attempting to complete the game or they never found the underground laboratory’s location.
Whatever the case may be, the three of them didn’t want to leave. Since the NPCs inside the skyscraper ignored them, they decided to barge inside it.
But when they were about to step closer to the skyscraper’s entrance, a green-colored mist wafted out of it!
