Chapter 98: Dark Book On A Wooden Table
When GoldMiner heard Bianca, he immediately dropped the book on his hand and headed towards her.
As soon as he arrived, he saw that Bianca was standing in front of a bookshelf that was opened like a door, revealing a secret passage.
From Bianca’s words, she found a secret passage that made GoldMiner wary of it. After all, if this was just a normal game, then he wouldn’t be this vigilant.
But as an amalgamation of the horror and mystery genre, a secret passage was something to be looked forward to and also feared.
One could find useful clues in a secret passage but that also went the same for finding dangers inside it.
Bianca noticed that GoldMiner was deep in thought after he arrived behind her so he didn’t interrupt him.
After GoldMiner weighed the pros and cons, he realized that the gains outweighed the risks so he suggested, “Let me explore the secret passage first. If nothing is wrong inside it, I will call for you to go inside.”
“But if you don’t hear anything from me half an hour from now, then get out of here as soon as possible and return to the atrium to inform the others.”
Hearing GoldMiner’s decision, Bianca didn’t stop him. She nodded her head in agreement, “I understand. I’ll wait here for you.”
Knowing that Bianca didn’t disagree, GoldMiner walked towards the secret passage and entered it. He wasn’t worried that he would die since even if he did, he would only die in the game and not in the real world.
GoldMiner fearlessly descended from the stone staircase as he walked deeper and deeper underground.
Although it was quite dark down there, there were electric lamp torches that lit up the walls of the secret passage.
GoldMiner kept on walking and walking.
Eventually, he arrived at the bottommost part of the secret passage as the stone staircase ended there.
Looking in front of him, GoldMiner saw that there was a steel door in front of him.
GoldMiner saw the door handle so he walked towards the steel door and placed his hand on the door handle. Afterward, GoldMiner pushed the door handle and he found that the door was quite heavy.
Although the door wasn’t locked, it couldn’t be considered as fully unlocked either as the steel door’s weight alone kept it at a semi-locked state.
“Fortunately, I have a good physique after working out in the gym. Now let’s make use of the time I spent in the gym to open this damn door.”
GoldMiner placed both of his hands on each door handle from the left and right side. Afterward, he exerted all of his force at the same time, causing the steel door to open smoothly.
It was worth noting that the steel door might be heavy, but it wasn’t that heavy. Two people with weak bodies can open the door with ease but it would take someone who worked out in the gym to open it alone.
After GoldMiner opened the steel door, he felt a gust of chilly wind breeze passing through him, sending chills down his spine.
When he felt the unusually cold breeze, GoldMiner’s body shivered but he resisted the urge to run away. “I can do this. The worst that can happen is not being able to sleep at night due to nightmares.”
After reassuring himself, GoldMiner bravely glanced at the interior of the dark room in front of him. The dark room was barely lit up by dim electric lamp candles.
As soon as when he opened the steel door, he had triggered some sort of mechanism that lit up those electric light lamp candles. They were just electric lamps in the shape of a candle.
The “flame” on the candle-shaped electric light lamp was releasing orange-colored light. It wasn’t that bright and when compared to the medium-sized room, it was quite dim.
GoldMiner’s gaze soon landed on the center of the dark room where a table and chair were situated. Both of those furniture were wooden and a black-colored book was placed on top of the wooden table.
“Ah fuck. The black book is on the wooden table in a dark room. This looks too fucking creepy.”
Just seeing this scene, GoldMiner had the urge to leave since he wasn’t used to the bone-chilling ambiance in the dark underground room.
He realized that even if he wanted to run away, the stone staircase was quite long so it would take a lot of time to ascend to the library’s floor.
“Sigh, just deal with it. Who made me the sacrificial lamb?”

To lighten up his mood, GoldMiner joked to himself as he steeled his heart and walked towards the wooden chair.
The wooden chair was already pulled out slightly away from the wooden table so GoldMiner didn’t have to pull it out. It was as if whoever prepared this wanted him to sit on it.
Looking at the wooden chair in front of him, GoldMiner’s heart rate started to rise as he muttered, “I never expected that I’d be this afraid of a wooden chair.”
The cold wind breeze that came out of nowhere had caressed GoldMiner’s skin, causing his body to shiver and further increase his heart rate.
Just this alone made him fear that the dark room might be haunted as if the dark book on the wooden table wasn’t ominous enough.
Due to the eerie silence within the dark room, GoldMiner had an illusion that he could feel his own heartbeat. The sound of his uneven breathing was all that he could hear.
After reassuring himself again that this was all in his head, GoldMiner finally was brave enough to sit down on the wooden chair.
When GoldMiner sat on the wooden chair, his gaze fell on the book with a black-colored cover. It has the title of “The Little Girl With A Balloon” written on its cover. There were crimson red-colored lines on the book cover’s sides, which further made it look more malevolent.
He was hesitating for a while but after steeling his heart once more, GoldMiner bravely touched the cover of the dark book.
However…
When he touched the book cover…
“Big brother, have you seen my balloon~~?”
The sweet voice of a young girl was the last thing he heard.
