Chapter 639: Security Protocols
Adam languidly stood outside the secret side entrance to Warehouse 56Q. Despite the snowfall and the harsh weather, he wore a linen tunic, cotton trousers, and leather boots. There was also a large wine gourd hanging from his shoulder.
The weather didn’t seem to affect him in the least. The biting cold wind swept past him, making his long, tied-up raven hair ripple behind him.
He casually took a swig from the gourd and glanced at the men standing at the entrance, looking at him with utmost vigilance. “So are you gonna let me in or what?” He asked in boredom.
“W-We need to confirm your identification first!” Said one of the Acolytes of the Brotherhood. By now, more and more people had arrived at the entrance, all of them glancing at Adam with caution and curiosity.
Adam couldn’t help but roll his eyes. “I already told you who I am.” He then conjured his twilight medallion and threw it at the person. “There, verify it.”
The man scrutinized the medallion carefully, then handed it to one of his comrades behind him. He then looked at Adam and nervously gulped, “My Lord, this… this is a secret base. We still cannot allow you to enter without a second verification.”
Adam deeply looked at the people gathered at the entrance, wondering if it would be a good idea to simply ignore them and make his way in—not like they could do anything about it. But then he shook his head and sighed, “Fine, whatever. Do as you like.”
He then kicked a wooden crate to the side and sat down on it, enjoying the wine and thinking to himself, I should have just come here with Kael or Liriel.
He had received intel about the Brotherhood’s main secret base in Corvid from Daneli. Unfortunately, the elf had some other business to attend to and could not accompany him.
Adam simply wanted to drop by and check in on the progress that these people had made while he was away. He didn’t think there would be so much scrutiny, however.
Well, this is also a good thing, he thought as he took another swig of the wine. The more cautious they are, the longer they can afford to live.
Meanwhile, a few people gathered at the entrance went back inside the warehouse to send a letter to the local Agents through the Spirit World messenger. While the rest of the Acolytes gazed at Adam in admiration and excitement.
Adam ignored them and continued to drink his wine. He cast his gaze on the walls of the warehouse and muttered, “The concealment runes are quite practical. Hmm, although there are a few places that need some adjusting. Remind me later so I can improve them.”
The rune template was given by the Ulier Headquarters to make it convenient for the members to operate in Ravenfell. These runes were very minuscule and nigh-invisible to the naked eye.
But the fact that Adam could observe them with such great detail caused the members of the Brotherhood to be astonished. They had all heard about the legends surrounding the man. To be able to see him in person was a surreal expression, to say the least.
They had all identified him through the secret greeting and the medallion. However, because of security protocols left in place by their superiors, Adam needed to be verified in person by a member who personally knew him.
“M-My Lord!” One of the Acolytes gathered the courage to speak. “Did you really single-handedly kill the Rank 3 werewolf in Stratford?”
Adam glanced at the man who had just asked him that question. He was a Mana Foundation Magus who was in his late teenage years.
“Stratford…” Adam’s eyes flashed with reminiscence. “It feels like a lifetime ago.”
Although only around a decade had passed since the Stratford Incident, to Adam it felt like forever because he had lived more than two hundred and fifty years inside the illusion of the Raven Inheritance.
“Yeah, I did kill him,” he answered nonchalantly, causing the group of Acolytes to exclaim in unison.
Adam ignored the praises they showered him with as he continued to drink his wine. He looked up at the night sky and watched the snow gently drift down.
I wonder how my foolish students are doing… It’s been so long since I’ve seen them.
Edward and Lisa… I wonder how you both are. Do you still think of me like I think of you?
Old man… I hope your advancement is progressing smoothly. Everything will work out just fine. I wonder when we’ll meet again…
He closed his eyes and felt the snow gently landing on his face. His lips curled up into a faint smile as he thought of the one who felt closest to family.
Anna, you’re going to keep your promise to me, right?
He opened his eyes and turned his head to the side. A few seconds later, two familiar figures appeared there all of a sudden.
Adam looked at the newcomers and smiled, “Long time no see.”
The silver-haired elven woman, Liriel, walked up to Adam and stood before him with crossed arms. “Magus Constantine, is that all you have to say to us after vanishing without a trace for over a year and a half?”

“Uhh…” Adam’s lips twitched as he looked at the elf who seemed to be very displeased with him. “I’m sorry?”
Meanwhile, Kael stood beside the elf and then silently nodded. Liriel couldn’t help but helplessly sigh. “I hope you can involve us in your plans next time. If we can’t even be transparent with each other, how do you expect us to fight side by side in the battles to come?”
Although Adam felt like it wasn’t really his fault that the final trial took as long as it did, he still chose to be take responsibility for it so that his partnership with Kael and Liriel proceeded smoothly in the futue.
He put away the wine gourd inside his black hoop earrings and then slightly bowed with his right hand over his chest. “I apologize for my long absence. I should have informed you two beforehand.”
Kael nodded again, this time with a faint smile. Liriel, seeing the Adam’s sincerety, also smiled. “Thank you for your understanding.”
She paused for a moment before pointing at the warehouse. “Now then, shall we head inside?”
