Chapter 712: Sword and Shield
When all of Silver Vess’ guards and the slaves snapped back to their senses, they felt a moment of disorientation before everything became clear.
They saw their Boss sitting with her legs crossed, casually talking to the two guests who had just arrived. Everything seemed normal.
“So, I take it that you too have had your fair share of battle since I last visited you?” Said Silver Vess, pointing at the scars on Adam and Kael’s face.
“Yes, Lady Vess.” Adam nodded with a reserved smile. “It’s only thanks to your teachings that we, two brothers, managed to survive for as long as we did.”
Silver Vess chuckled lightly as she waved her hand, “You don’t even need to mention it.” Her eyes flashed with reminscience and she added, “In fact, I should be the one thanking your parents. If not for them, I wouldn’t even be here today.”
Adam and Kael glanced at each other and then smiled.
Silver Vess then added, “Well, now that you’re here, it is only right that I repay the kindness that your parents once showed me.”
She paused before asking with an inquisitive gaze, “But I must ask you something first. What brings you two here to Blackshore? The journey from Fabio Kingdom in the Southern Federation is quite the perilous one. And very long and arduous, I might add.”
Adam couldn’t help but awkwardly scratch the back of his head. “Truth be told, Lady Vess, my brother and I planned to go to the capital of the Acadian Empire, Acryon, to make a name for ourselves. But during our voyage through the Galestine Ocean, we were attacked by pirates.”
He paused for a moment, skipping over most of the details and concluded, “Well, a lot of things happened and we ended up arriving in Blackshore. We then heard from the locals that you also happened to be here, and thus immediately rushed to meet you.”
Silver Vess chuckled while covering her mouth, “Well, isn’t that a wonderful coincidence? Hmm, now that you’ve arrived in Blackshore, how about working for me?”
Adam was surprised, “Really?!”
“Of course,” said Silver Vess matter-of-factly. “Although the two of you have only just advanced to the Mana Liquesfaction Rank, you have plenty of battle experiences, do you not?”
Adam and Kael nodded.
“Well then, how about we do this?” Silver Vess leaned forward and continued, “Work under me for a couple of months. When you’ve established yourself and made enough money, you can travel the Ulier Continent and go make a name for yourself.”
“Would you really do that for us, Lady Vess?” Adam spoke excitedly.
Silver Vess’ lips twitched but she replied with a smile, “Of course, I would. I would refrain from handing you everything on a platter as that would simply make you complacent.”
Her expression turned solemn, “This is Darkshore. Here, you have to fight tooth and nail if you want something.”
Adam gulped loudly. He stood up and pressed his hand against his chest, “Lady Vess, it would be my honor to work for you!”
“Y-Yes, me too!” Kael followed suit and got to his feet as well.
“Very well, then.” Silver Vess smiled. “For the foreseeable future, you both will act as my sword and shield. Can I trust you boys to handle such responsibility?”
“Yes, my lady!” Adam and Kael bowed respectfully.
“Splendid!” She got to her feet with a radiant smile on her beautiful face and walked towards the grand mahogany table on the other end of the office.
As she took her seat at the table, she snapped her fingers and ordered coldly, “Everyone leave. I wish to talk to them in private.”
“Yes!” The Magi guards, thinking nothing of it, bowed and left. And so did the female slaves.
Silver Vess then raised her head, coldly glancing towards the ceiling, “You two as well.”
There was a brief moment of silence before the voices of two men were heard, “As you command, my lady.”
After everyone had left the office, there were a few moments of silence as Silver Vess looked at Adam with an inquiring gaze.
Adam remained silent for a moment before nodding with a smirk. “Yeah, all of them have left.”
Then, he cast a few hand seals, erecting a simple barrier around the three of them. He then took a seat at the mahogany table and nonchalantly put his feet on it.

“Alright, it’s safe to talk now,” he said while supporting his head with his hands behind.
Silver Vess’ shoulders involuntarily loosened. She looked at Adam and couldn’t help but frown ever so slightly, “Weren’t you overacting a little?”
“Overacting? Me?” Adam chuckled lightly as he waved his hand. “Not at all. My acting was perfect, I’d say.”
Silver Vess—or rather, Liriel Auvryndar—couldn’t help but roll her eyes. “Anyways, I think the people closest to Silver Vess are convinced with our play.”
Adam had put all the guards and the female slaves under an illusion spell the moment he had entered the room.
After that, he had swiftly dealt with the real Silver Vess, carved her face and handed it over to Liriel to do her magic. It took the elf about ten minutes to enchant the face mask and use it for herself.
As for the real Silver Vess’ body? Adam had already fed it to one of the snakes from the Coil. Needless to say, she would not be missed.
“How long until the forces of Ravenfell arrive?” Kael looked at Adam and asked.
“Hmm.” The raven-haired middle-aged man with scars all over his face stroked his chin in thought, before answering, “I’d say about a month, give or take.”
Although the three of them had only taken half the time to arrive at Blackshore, it made sense for the forces of Ravenfell to take more time since they were in a large group.
Furthermore, they’d also be taking a different route compared to the trio.
“Now, that we’ve established ourselves according to the plan, I’m afraid I won’t be able to move around much,” said Liriel.
After all, she was pretending to be Silver Vess and thus had to operate out of the Cage for the majority of her time spent in the city.
“Yeah, don’t worry about it.” Adam nodded. “Kael and I will be just fine.”
He paused for a moment, his expression turning serious, “You, however, need to be more careful. You are now Silver Vess, so act like how she usually would. Do not let your emotions get in the way.”
Liriel’s lips quivered nd she couldn’t help but ask, “What about the slaves? The children?”
“Rest assured.” Adam rose to his feet, walking toward the window and coldly gazing at the lawless city sprawling before him.
“When Blackshore burns to the ground, all the slaves will be liberated. I give you my word.”
This was not Adam speaking, nor was it the Tyrant.
It was the Black Vengeance!
