Chapter 900: Insurance
At the same time, in an unknown location somewhere beyond the outskirts of Ravenfell, a short and portly figure, dressed in hooded robes, slowly made his way through the dark alleys.
From time to time, he would walk past people, but none would be able to sense his presence. It was evident that the man had cast concealment spells on himself.
After several twists and turns, ensuring that he wasn’t tailed, the hooded figure arrived before the entrance of an abandoned warehouse.
With great familiarity, he made his way inside, past the heavy metal pieces of equipment and the wooden crates, before finally arriving at a hidden gate that led underground.
Several minutes later, he finally arrived at his destination – a small chamber situated underneath the abandoned factory.
There, another person was already waiting for him. But unlike him, the person hadn’t concealed his identity.
He appeared to be an old man, but didn’t have the weakness and frailty one would have at that age. Instead, he looked quite healthy and full of viatlity.
The moment the portly hooded man appeared before him, he cast him a cold and indifferent glance. “This better be important. Or else I must teach you a lesson for daring to disturb my peace.”
Hearing his words, the hooded figure shuddered. After all, the old man before him was a mighty Mana Core Magus!
He hurriedly offered a deferential bow, sincerely apologizing, “Please forgive me, my lord. But it was imperative that I meet you.”
The old Mana Core Magus’s eyes narrowed. “Speak.”
Taking a deep breath to calm himself down a little, the portly figure removed his hood, revealing himself to be none other than…
One of the Councilors of Ravenfell, Ives Ballard.
The blond-haired old man’s topaz eyes blazed with hatred and indignation as he began, “My Lord, I have to inform you of a troubling development. There’s a Magus… a potential threat! If we don’t deal with him now, I fear he may severely disrupt our plans.”
The Mana Core Magus’s expression turned solemn. He was someone who had only just recently arrived at Ravenfell. As such, his knowledge about its residents paled in comparison to the man before him, who was born and brought up here.
If one of the Councilors himself claimed that this threat would disrupt the Cult’s plans, then it had to be taken seriously.
The old man gestured for him to continue.
Ives Ballard could barely contain the excitement bubbling inside of him. However, on the surface, he appeared grave and a bit distressed.
“It’s the Dark King,” he spoke in a solemn voice. “The same man who dismantled our human-trafficking operations with the Duskfall Couple. He was also the primary reason the Cult’s forces suffered defeat during the Blackshore Incident. I’m afraid if we don’t act soon—”
Ballard’s words got caught in his throat when the old man raised his hand and gestured for him to stop.
He couldn’t help but ask, “My Lord… is something the matter?”
“The Dark King is off-limits,” said the Mana Core Magus, his words leaving no room for debate.
Ballard’s pupils constricted.
“…What?” He asked in a daze.
“Don’t make me repeat myself,” said the old Mana Core Magus, his voice cold and hostile.
Ballard couldn’t stop his body from trembling at those words.
He couldn’t help but wonder just why these people from the Cult refused to go after Adam despite all the trouble he had caused them in the past.
The councilor lowered his head, gnashing his teeth in fury. His eyes were bloodshot from anger, recalling how Adam had humiliated him earlier today.
His gaze was drawn to his right hand. It was already healed, but he could still feel that pain and humiliation coursing through his veins.
Unforgivable! He screamed inwardly.

He then raised his head and looked at the Mana Core Magus right in the eye, spitting through gritted teeth, “My Lord, you are making a mistake! Adam Constantine must be dealt with—”
Rank 4 Spell: Psyche Whip!
The last thing Ballard saw was the old Magus weaving the final hand seal while contemptuously looking at him.
And then it hit him…
He felt as if his mind was lashed with a cruel whip, filling every inch of it in utter despair. His face paled immediately, and he dropped to the ground, convulsing in absolute agony.
Ballard felt like his mind was being ravaged by an invisible hand.
He couldn’t take in anymore!
He felt like death would be far better than what he was experiencing at the moment!
However… before it could get past the breaking point, the old Magus deactivated the spell.
Ballard was drenched in sweat as he miserably lay on the ground. Unbeknownst to him, his ears had started bleeding.
He had never felt such terror in his life.
“I told you not to make me repeat myself.” The old Magus’s cold words drifted into Ballard’s ears, causing him to shudder.
Despite the pain wrecking his mind, he gritted his teeth and adjusted himself, kneeling down before the old man.
“F-Forgive me, my lord…” he murmured, tone laced with fear. “Thank… thank you for showing mercy…”
In his fit of rage, he had forgotten whom he was talking to.
This was a Mana Core Magus—the peak of magic in Tron!
If the old man wanted, he could snuff out his life in a second.
“Forgive me… forgive me…” Ballard kept repeating those words, realizing just how close he had come to embracing death.
The old man coldly gazed at him for a few moments. Then, he flatly muttered. “The Cult has different plans for Adam Constantine.”
He paused for a moment before adding, “But that doesn’t mean his loved ones are off-limits.”
Ballard’s pupils trembled. They flickered with a cruel light as he slowly raised his head. “My Lord, you mean to say…”
“It has been brought to my attention that a certain family member of his has arrived at Ravenfell,” said the old Magus calmly. “She is currently residing in his estate.”
Ballard’s eyes narrowed. “My Lord, do you…”
“Yes, kidnapping Adam Constantine’s sister will serve as excellent insurance,” said the Mana Core Magus.
“But heed this warning, boy,” he added, his tone laced with killing intent.
“If you let your emotions jeopardize the plan, everyone you care about will die. I will make sure you watch each one perish, before I end your life myself.”
Ballard shuddered, but quickly regained his composure. His eyes gleamed with resolve. “You have my word, my lord.”
He had already begun imagining the cruel torments he would inflict upon Adam’s sister.
Just you wait, Ballard seethed inwardly.
I’ll humiliate your sister a thousand times worse than you ever humiliated me!
