Chapter 915: Survive
“How long until we reach Boran?” Inside the carriage, Ada asked boredly as she glanced out the carriage window at the terracotta-colored walls of the valley.

Rowan immediately answered in a very polite and respectful manner, “My Lady, we should reach the port town before sunset.”

Ada turned to him, her blue eyes flickering with slight disdain. Truth be told, she didn’t like sharing the carriage with a family of mortal commoners.

She was a proud daughter of a Duke from the Ignisra Kingdom, after all. But seeing how her childhood friend, the princess of the kingdom, didn’t voice out any complaints, who was she to do so?

Thus, in the end, she simply nodded.

Anna suddenly called out, her voice calm and soothing. “Rowan.”

“Yes, my lady.” The middle-aged man straightened his back as he turned towards the crimson-haired princess.

“How old are your children?” She asked, her chin resting on her right hand, as she gazed at the two children with a faint smile.

Hearing the beautiful Magus look at them, the children quickly hugged their mother, hiding their faces. They were too shy.

Rowan smiled dotingly, seeing his children’s reactions. “My son is fifteen this year, and my daughter is twelve.”

Anna hummed in response. Her gaze was drawn to the boy as she thought to herself, Adam asked to see if the child had any talent for spell-casting…

Hmm, perhaps I should ask Kaspar to check once we reach Boran.

Their carriage finally emerged from the narrow pass, and the piercing rays of the sun beat down on Daryl as he drove.

He couldn’t help but grumble in annoyance, “Damn it, why do I have to be the one driving? Why can’t the butler?”

Having had enough, he was about to call out to Rowan when he suddenly noticed two shadows on the ground, getting larger and larger with each passing breath.

The hair on the back of his neck stood on end, and his pupils constricted.

Danger…

Unprecedented danger!

His heart sank as he was suddenly overwhelmed by boundless killing intent pressing down on him, freezing him in place.

Inside the carriage, Kaspar, who had kept his eyes closed the entire moment, suddenly snapped to full alert, weaving a complex set of hand seals in a fraction of a second.

His experience and vigilance were unmistakable!

And just before Daryl and the carriage were about to be overwhelmed by the enemy attack, a dome of mana suddenly materialized around them, just in the nick of time.

Rank 3 Spell: Dome of Protection!

BAM!

Hayes Ballard and the crooked Magus’ attacks were momentarily thwarted by Kaspar’s spell.

However, it was still the strength of two Mana Vortex Magi against one.

Soon, cracks started to appear all over the barrier, and it wouldn’t be long before it shattered.

Daryl was still thunderstruck by the sudden turn of events. Before he could even gather his wits, an aged hand burst through the wooden panel behind him and yanked him back into the carriage.

And right at that moment…

CRASH!

The magical barrier protecting the carriage shattered into countless motes of light. Under the magical force of the impending attacks, the carriage exploded into splinters, and the two horses imploded, their blood and bones splattering in every direction.

Just as the carriage was destroyed, an imperceptible golden glow flickered for a split second, draping over Anna and her entourage before vanishing… unnoticed by all.

The magical barrier had not only shielded the group from the initial surprise attack but had also significantly slowed down the enemies’ momentum.

Hayes and the crooked old man wore dark, ominous expressions on their faces as their weapons slashed toward the passengers with murderous intent.

But they were once again stopped!

BAM!

Kaspar stood tall, his fingers pressed together in a final hand seal as a second, slightly smaller Dome of Protection materialized into existence around him and the others.

“Curses!” The crooked old man from the Cult spat through gritted teeth.

The second magical barrier had fully nullified their combined attack. There was not even a single scratch on it.

Hayes and he couldn’t help but reevaluate the Mana Vortex Magus protecting the princess of the Ignisra Kingdom!

At once, both of them withdrew their weapons and hurriedly retreated several tens of meters.

“Oh, that was quite rude of you,” said Kaspar York with a faint smile on his face. But his eyes… they gleamed with a cold chill that caused his enemies to become alert.

The fact that he was able to not only defend against their surprise attack, but also manage to save everyone with him, spoke volumes about his experience and prowess.

In that moment… Hayes and the crooked Magus came to one conclusion:

Kaspar York was a dangerous man!

“My dear friends, won’t you introduce yourselves?” Kaspar revealed a faint smile… a cold and ominous smile.

Meanwhile, Anna and the rest of the Magi had gotten to their feet, casting solemn looks at their enemies.

As for Rowan and his family, they were so terrified that they could only lie down on the ground, trembling with fear.

Being suddenly attacked by a couple of mysterious Magi, Anna couldn’t help but scowl, her ruby eyes blazing with fury.

Only one thought echoed in her mind:

Could they be from the Haynam Empire?

The incident that happened more than twenty years ago, the one that forced her to flee her kingdom, escape her enemies, and journey to Ulier, the one that led her to meet Adam…

Had it come full circle once again?

The very thought of it caused her heart to turn cold. Her eyes narrowed as she conjured a long sword from her storage artifact.

Then, with a simple, one-handed hand seal, the blade was suddenly wreathed in flames.

“Prepare yourself,” she said to her friends, her voice calm and steady.

Daryl and Ada’s expressions grew solemn. They, too, conjured their weapons and got ready to battle.

Without turning around, Kaspar calmly instructed them, “Stay clear of the narrow path behind us. Fight away from the cliffs.”

He then continued through Mind Whisper, ‘Be alert at all times. We do not know how many there are. I’ll handle that hunched one first. The three of you hold off the other until I return.’

The three Mana Liquefaction Magus solemnly nodded. Despite being outmatched by their enemies, they stood their ground.

For a moment, time seemed to come to a standstill as the two parties solemnly eyed each other.

The battle was about to begin at any moment!

But just before it did…

Anna tilted her head ever so slightly and solemnly gazed at the middle-aged butler.

“Rowan,” she said softly, giving him only one simple instruction:

“Survive!”
