Chapter 918: Drastic Change
Confirming that Rowan and his family had escaped, Anna couldn’t help but heave a sigh of relief.
The last thing she’d want was for her enemies to hold them hostage. That would change the entire flow of the battle.
Now, usually, she wouldn’t be bothered if a few lives, especially those of mortals, were lost during battle.
However, Rowan was different. He was fiercely loyal to Adam, and Anna had also come to like him in the weeks she spent in Ravenfell.
But more importantly… there were children with him.
Her conscience couldn’t possibly allow her to stand by and accept the death of innocent little kids.
Go…
She thought, her heart gripped by tension as she gazed at the shadowy pass wedged between the towering cliffs of the valley.
I can only hope there are no other enemies around.
It was certainly risky for Rowan and his family to escape through the narrow pass. But it was a risk worth taking.
After all, remaining near the battlefield would almost certainly lead to their deaths.
At least the pass offered a sliver of hope… a chance of survival.
Quickly turning her attention back to the battle in front, she noticed the stone golem standing tall before them.
However, it had been mostly destroyed as a result of the devastating Rank 3 spell. But it had served its purpose and saved them from impending doom.
Right at that moment, Hayes Ballard’s furious voice was heard across the battlefield, “You filthy vermins sure have a lot of artifacts on you!”
Daryl rose to the ground, his eyes flashing with indignation. It would appear that he was really mad at the loss of his artifact.
The stone golem was on the verge of collapsing. There was no way it would be able to tank another Rank 3 spell.
So there was only one thing left to do…
“Get ready, you too,” he muttered under his breath as he weaved a series of hand seals.
Then, he thrust his palms towards the stone golem.
Rank 2 Spell: Rain of Rocks!
The stone golem crumbled into dozens of spherical orbs, each enveloped in brilliant magic circles.
In the next instant, the orbs shot towards Ballard with terrifying speed!
“Petty tricks!” Hayes Ballard sneered.
He weaved a set of simple hand seals, and a mana barrier materialized before him, effortlessly stopping Daryl’s spell.
“Using your golem as material components, and this is all you could muster?” Ballard’s lips curled into a condescending smirk.
As he watched the Rain of Rocks shattering upon coming in contact with his barrier, he grinned. “It is futile. No matter what you do, it is all—”
But soon, the smirk on his face vanished when he suddenly sensed an immense threat to his life.
His pupils constricted as he felt a wave of burning heat and icy chill rushing towards him from both sides.
Damn it! Did the other two use Grade 3 concealment artifacts? he thought to himself in alarm.

There wasn’t enough time to evade both attacks. So he was forced to choose the lesser of the two, the one that wouldn’t cost him his life.
Having come to that decision, he immediately crouched low, channeling all his strength into his legs and launching himself backward.
At that precise moment, Anna’s flaming sword, brimming with murderous intent, slashed through the air above him.
Had Ballard hesitated for even a heartbeat, his head would have been severed by what he suspected was a Grade 3 artifact.
He narrowly evaded the first attack… but not the second one.
A cold gleam flashed in Ada’s blue eyes as she rushed forward, twin ice daggers in hand. With a ruthless swing, she slashed at Ballard’s right foot.
Blood gushed out of his ankle as the proud son of the Ballard Family hurriedly retreated, making enough distance from the trio whom he had so severely underestimated.
They had far too many Grade 3 artifacts!
It made him wonder, just what kind of powerful and wealthy background did these people come from, to be armed with so many high-grade artifacts?
The identical silver bracelets around Anna and Ada’s wrists shimmered with mana, and in the next instant, their figures suddenly appeared out of thin air.
One brandished a flaming sword, the other gripped twin daggers wreathed in ice.
Just as Ballard had speculated, the women were indeed in possession of Grade 3 artifacts capable of concealing their presence.
Throughout the entire fight, the three Mana Liquefaction Magi could be said to have held the upper hand against Hayes Ballard.
However, at this moment, their faces were pale and drained.
Using grade 3 artifacts came at a price. Channeling such powerful tools required a tremendous amount of mana, far beyond what they could sustain for long.
The trio regrouped and got into a triangle formation once again, vigilantly eyeing their enemy from a distance.
Hayes Ballard, on the other hand, had an extremely vicious expression on his face. He was crouching on the ground and pouring a Potion of Healing on his injured ankle.
“I will make you wish you were fuckin’ dead!” He screamed, glaring at the trio.
But he was secretly very cautious of them. Despite the three of them looking weakened from excessive mana consumption, he didn’t immediately attack them.
Who could say what other hidden trump cards these three Magi still had in their possession?
Keeping his murderous gaze still locked onto the trio, he turned his head towards the crooked cultist and screamed at the top of his lungs, “Zashi! Recall your undead!!”
Those few words caused Anna’s heart to sink.
Recall?
Not… summon?
In that moment, the entire outcome of the battle had drastically changed.

Zashi, the crooked cultist, took cover within the dome made of countless bones as it withstood the bombardment of two Great Fire Balls.
Before he and Hayes Ballard chose to ambush Anna and her entourage, he had already summoned two undead creatures and sent them to scout the area once more.
He still suspected that, after attacking the carriage and getting drawn into the battle, unknown enemies might suddenly appear and trap them.
Thus, he had dispatched his undead creatures to search for any unseen threats.
Sheltered within the dome of bones, Zashi closed his eyes, focusing as he received sensory feedback from his undead creatures.
A few moments later, his lips curled into a malevolent grin.
There were no hidden enemies within hundreds of meters.
“What trap?” the crooked old man snickered. “There’s no one else here at all!”
Without hesitation, he gave the command for his two undead creatures to advance.

Standing several meters away from the dome of bones, Kasper York wore an extremely ugly expression.
The moment he heard Hayes Ballard’s shouted warning, he instantly understood that his opponent had summoned undead creatures well before the battle had even begun.
The question was… where were they?
And as if answering his thoughts, a towering figure clad in dark, weathered armor charged towards him from a distance.
Kasper immediately sensed the dense, deathly mana radiating from the figure, and his expression turned grim.
There was no mistaking it…
This was an undead creature with strength on par with a Mana Vortex Magus!
But this was just one undead creature.
Were there more?
If so…
Where were they?
