Chapter 552: Fake Goods
Qi Liwei glared at Qi Yongrui, wishing he could kill the mer with just his gaze alone. Why!? Why was it that Qi Yongrui was living a life better than his? These gazes should have been on him. He should have been the one to attract the envy of these mers.

“What’s wrong?” A greasy voice whispered in his ears, and Qi Liwei shivered. He turned to look at the old woman whom he was accompanying. One look at her yellowing teeth, and Qi Liwei wished he could hurl his dinner from last night.

However, he knew that if he dared to do it, then Master Qi would not leave him alone.

So he could only smile at the old woman and say, “It’s nothing; I saw someone disgusting, Mrs Pei. That’s why I felt a bit upset.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Mrs Pei reached out and hugged him around his waist. Pinching him on the side, she said to him, “Why? Who is it? Who made you upset?” She turned to look around like a big boss, as if she could truly take down the person who made Qi Liwei upset.

Qi Liwei originally wanted to say that it was nothing, but when he thought it through, his eyes couldn’t help but flicker. He smiled and pointed at Qi Yongrui before saying to Mrs Pei, “It is him, Mrs Pei. He used to bully me when we were in the orphanage together, and to make matters worse, we were adopted together in the Qi family. Thus, his bad attitude towards me continued even then.”

Mrs Pei frowned and turned to look at Qi Yongrui. She didn’t recognise him because she had never worked with Qi Yongrui, and with Luo Huian’s back facing her, she didn’t recognise Qi Yongrui even more.

In the end, she only saw Qi Yongrui sitting in the wheelchair and took him for a cripple who was used to taking pleasure by bullying others. She scoffed and said to Qi Liwei, “Don’t worry. Since he dared to cause trouble for you, I will make him pay for his foolish actions.”

“You don’t have to.” Even though Qi Liwei wanted Mrs Pei to cause trouble for Qi Yongrui, he still pretended to be sensible and said to her, “I am used to such things; it is not like I ever thought that I would be given justice.” After he finished speaking, he didn’t forget to squeeze out a few tears.

Though Qi Liwei was not skilled in anything, he knew what kind of buttons to push to make a woman pity him.

His actions caused Mrs Pei to feel sorry for him, and she immediately reached out to hold him. She said to him, “Don’t worry. Since he dared to bully you, he should have been prepared for his comeuppance.”

After speaking, she turned to look at the VIP room where Qi Yongrui was sitting and frowned. Was that mer someone important? How come he was sitting in the VIP room where only those who were the ace participants sat?

When Qi Liwei saw that she was looking at the VIP room rather carefully, he couldn’t help but worry a little. He nudged her carefully and called, “Mrs Pei?”

Mrs Pei snapped out of her daze and turned to look at the little beauty who was sitting next to her. One look at his teary eyes and cherry red lips made all kinds of thoughts in her head fly away. She smiled at him and patted his hand on the back.

Since the beauty was relying on her, she couldn’t let him down, could she?

On the other side, Luo Huian had no idea that someone had caused trouble for her once again. She looked around the auction room and muttered, “It seems too shady for me.”

Qi Yongrui turned to look at her and spoke in a helpless voice, “It’s a good thing that you said this in front of me. If you had said it in front of others, then they would have definitely beaten you up.”

This auction was one of the finest auctions of the city, and this woman was saying that it looked shady. Forget about the attendees; if the organisers were to hear the good things that his wife was saying, he was afraid that they would find themselves blacklisted.

A good thing was that this room was soundproof.

Luo Huian turned to look at the mer who was speaking to her and said, “I was speaking the truth. This place looks freaky.”

“And what do you mean by ‘freaky?” Qi Yongrui asked with a confused expression.

“I mean—”

She was about to speak when Luo Huian was interrupted by the emcee.

“Good evening, ladies, gentlemen and my beautiful mers,” the emcee greeted the audience with a smile.

Luo Huian turned to look at the emcee and sucked in a breath when she saw a bunch of souls clinging to him. He might not sense it, but the man was rather close to his death.

But Luo Huian didn’t sympathise with the man because these souls were not evil; they were grudging. Which meant that this man did something to them when these souls were alive.

“I have a feeling this auction is going to be chaotic,” remarked Luo Huian, causing Qi Yongrui to stiffen. He slowly turned his neck around to look at her and wondered what she meant by those words. Because he knew his wife, she was calm as the sea when she was facing a Gloom. So what was it that could be considered chaotic in her eyes?

Qi Yongrui had no idea back then that he was in for a rough night.

Chen Mingyu, on the other hand, looked at his fiancée, who was sitting right next to the VIP room where Luo Huian was sitting, and that was not all. She even arranged for a device with which she could eavesdrop on the two of them.

He looked at the small device and turned to look at Shi Meifeng before asking,

“Does An An know that you are doing this?”

“Of course not.” Shi Meifeng turned to look at Chen Mingyu. She raised a brow and said to the mer, “How can I let her know such a thing? Wouldn’t she be upset with me?”

So you know that this was wrong, thought Chen Mingyu with a look of sheer disbelief on his face. He parted his lips, but before he could say anything, he shook his head and stopped himself. He knew Shi Meifeng, and he knew how crazy she was when it came to Luo Huian.

It was better not to say anything because this woman was not going to listen to him; in fact, if he tried to make her stop, then she would kick him out of the VIP room. Though Chen Mingyu had no feelings for his soon-to-be wife, he knew that he needed her protection. Without her, he would be eaten clean by the people of the Chen family.

Thus, he stayed quiet and turned to look at the emcee.

The handsome man was now introducing a pair of jade bracelets that were taken from a thousand-year-old tomb; they had exquisite craftsmanship and looked really good.

Chen Mingyu was about to raise the card when he heard Luo Huian say, “Humph, a thousand-year-old bracelet? That thing is at most ten months old. I have to say that they really know how to lie.”

There was a little rustling sound, and she was then heard asking Qi Yongrui, “Humans lie quite smoothly, don’t they? How come they are saying that those bracelets are a thousand years old?”

Just as Chen Mingyu was wondering how she knew that, he heard Qi Yongrui ask the same question.

“How do you know that they are not a thousand years old?” Qi Yongrui questioned. Just as Chen Mingyu nodded. He wanted to know this too: how come Luo Huian knew that these bracelets were not a thousand years old?

“It is quite easy,” Luo Huian replied while pointing at the bracelet. “First, they are too waxy. Do you think that a pair of jade bracelets that were buried for more than a thousand years would be this waxy? Not to mention, they don’t have the shine that should be on a thousand-year-old bracelet; they are lacking in the spiritual essence.”

“The shine of spiritually rich jade is different,” Luo Huian explained.

Once she finished speaking, Chen Mingyu pulled his hand back from the card that he was about to pick up and bid.

The emcee had been keeping an eye on the VIP rooms; thus, he caught Chen Mingyu pulling away from the card, which made him confused. What was going on? It was quite clear that Chen Mingyu was about to bid for the bracelets. So why did he suddenly change his mind?

The emcee turned to look at the organisers, who simply shook their heads and asked him to continue.
