Chapter 554: Were they caught?
“What are you doing?” Qi Yongrui was shocked. He reached out and held her hand to bring it down. Luo Huian glanced at the thin, veiny hand that was holding her wrist and clenched her fists. Her eyes snapped upwards as she looked at Qi Yongrui, whose eyes were filled with concern and worry. “Why are you bidding when you know that it is a fake? Don’t do that.”

“Are you okay with that?” Luo Huian asked, feeling like she was going crazy. Why would she worry about what Qi Yongrui liked or not? However, she did. She did care whether or not the mer found her petty and miserly just because she was not bidding or letting him bid.

Surprised Qi Yongrui raised his head and met her gaze. Seeing the inferno-like glare fixated on him, his breath hitched and he turned to look away. “I am okay with that,” His fingers slipped off the wrist that he was holding and he continued, “It’s not like you are refusing to buy me anything. It is I who does not wish to buy these fake antiques, so don’t think about it too much.”

He never thought that Luo Huian would be worried about something so simple; however, at the same time, a sort of giddy feeling spread through his limbs. It seemed like his wife was not as indifferent towards him as he thought she was.

On the other hand, Chen Mingyu felt a bit uncomfortable when he heard Luo Huian care about Qi Yongrui.

Shi Meifeng noticed the discomfort on his face and curled her lips. She placed her fingers under her chin and stated, “It seems like you do not like sharing. Hurts, doesn’t it? Seeing the woman who lived and breathed for you, worrying and caring for another mer?”

“It’s not like that.” Chen Mingyu turned to look at Shi Meifeng and stated in a cold voice, “I just felt that it was weird for An An to care for that mer—especially when she knows that he married her due to some hidden intention.”

“Maybe she thinks that the intentions are all over since he separated from the Qi family?” Shi Meifeng remarked as she turned to look at Chen Mingyu. “But then again, why does it matter to you that An An is falling into a trap or getting close to another mer? You made your choice, didn’t you?”

Chen Mingyu lowered his head upon hearing her response; well, indeed, he made his choice. It was not the choice that he wanted to make but he did make it.

“Brother, why are we not bidding?” Cui Yuandan turned to look at her brother, who was not even picking up the bidding board and questioned, “Do you want to lose such good things?”

Cui Yuandan didn’t know that there was anything wrong with the antiques; she could only see Cui Sihao sitting still like a statue.

Even Luo Huian was bidding for the luminous pearl so why were they not?

“Idiot.” Cui Sihao turned to look at Cui Yuandan just as Mrs Pei raised the bid to 50 million and said to her, “Can you not see that Miss Luo is simply raising the bid and not buying anything? Do you think that the Luo family doesn’t have a meagre 50 million?”

It was quite clear that there was something wrong with the auction. Usually, the Luo family was the first to buy everything that was good. However, this time around they were not even making a move.

Even the nouveau riche knew how to follow their lead and yet his sister was acting like a fool.

He turned to look at his sister and said to her, “You better sit still for me and not cause any trouble. If you dare to make a bid, you will lose the only credit card that you own.”

As soon as Cui Sihao finished speaking, Cui Yuandan straightened up in her seat and stopped causing a fuss but at the same time she couldn’t help but feel a bit unconvinced. The auction objects looked really pretty and valuable; why was it that they couldn’t buy it? This was something that Cui Yuandan could not understand.

Cui Sihao noticed that she was not willing and seemed to be upset but he didn’t care about Cui Yuandan at the moment. He called his assistant and asked him to take an appraiser from their connection to the Cui house and have him appraise all the antiques that were bought from this auction.

In the past, Cui Sihao never asked for a double appraisal, as he trusted this auction house. After all, the organisers were some of the trusted people of the nation. Never did he doubt that they would cause trouble for him like this.

When the assistant heard the order of his boss, he was stunned. He couldn’t understand what was going on but he still agreed and left the VIP room.

Cui Sihao was not the only one; every family head whose mind was clear and in place sensed that something was wrong. Usually the Luo family was always the one who took the lead. But now all of a sudden they had pulled their foot back.

“What’s going on?” one of the organisers couldn’t help but ask. He looked at his partner and questioned, “Don’t tell me that the Luo family sensed that something is amiss?”

“It’s impossible,” his partner shook her head and said in a low voice, “We have been doing this kind of thing for years; how can they notice anything?”

The first time they sold a fake antique, they were indeed really worried about being caught but they underestimated the trust that these rich families had in their mothers. They never —not once—doubted their authenticity, and that made them bolder.

They immediately started mixing more and more fake goods in the auction before starting to sell only fakes.

They soon started to make unimaginable profits, and with the rich families ignoring the appraisal report – all thanks to the reputation that their previous generation had gathered, they stopped worrying about it.

However, now that something had gone amiss, they couldn’t help but worry. What if the truth about the auction was found out by someone?

However, the man still felt that there was something wrong. How come the Luo and Shi families were this silent? Usually, they are the loudest.

“Don’t think too much,” said the woman. “We have been very thorough with these things; it’s impossible for them to discover anything. Maybe the reason the Luo family is silent is because the one who is leading the auction is Luo Huian?”

When the man heard that the person leading the bid for the Luo family was none other than Luo Huian, his expression shifted slightly. He nodded and tried to calm down. But at the same time, when he thought about the changes that Luo Huian had gone through, the man couldn’t help but worry a bit more.

Luo Huian, who didn’t know that she had changed the entire pace of the auction, let out a yawn. She snapped her fingers in front of her mouth and looked at the porcelain tea set that was placed in front of the guests.

She arched her brow and said, “Well, this is a real deal.”

Just as she finished speaking Qi Yongrui and Chen Mingyu reached out to pick up the bidding board but just as they touched the board, they heard Luo Huian say, “But how come they dug a grave that was a hundred years old? Are they not scared of ghosts knocking on their door?”

As soon as she finished speaking Qi Yongrui and Chen Mingyu pulled away their hands as if they were burnt. Even Cui Sihao put down the bidding board.

Seeing this, the other two pillars of the capital city also pulled their hands away.

They didn’t trust Luo Huian but they did trust Shi Meifeng. If that woman was not making a move, then there was something wrong.

Song Hexiu turned to look at her mother and questioned, “What’s going on, mother? What are you doing?”

“You don’t need to know.” Mother Song glanced at Song Hexiu; she said to her, “Just keep watching and learn some things from Shi Meifeng.”

When Song Hexiu heard her mother compare her with Shi Meifeng once again, her eyes flashed with anger. She was not reconciled but she still pursed her lips and looked in the front. Her eyes flickered to the VIP room where Shi Meifeng was sitting and a small flame started to burn in each of her eyes.

She wished her mother wouldn’t treat her like she was a child who didn’t know anything better.

She too could see through things!

While the Song family was filled with gunpowder, the He family was filled with nothing but amusement.

He Chuman played with the beads on his wrist and tilted his head to one side. He said while looking at Luo Huian, “Interesting, quite interesting.”
