The second, the sedan carriers picked up the sedan; the old antique cracked with a resounding bang. The sound of the crack was so loud that it echoed in the entire auction house, causing everyone to turn and look at the sedan. For a second, nothing happened, and no one took it seriously, thinking that it was nothing. Even Madam Pei didn’t take it seriously, as the sedan was still intact.

As she was drowning in her arrogance and basking in the envious gazes of those who couldn’t purchase the sedan, the crack under her bottom solidified and started to get bigger and bigger. And as they arrived at the end of the stage, the crack under the sedan grew so big that Madam Pei could no longer stay stable.

The sedan snapped into pieces as splinters and broken pieces of wood flew all over the place.

“AHHH!!!” Madam Pei screamed in terror, and soon her scream turned into one of agony.

Everyone in the auction house gasped as they got to their feet and looked at the old woman who was lying awkwardly on the stairs. With her cane lying on one side and her body sprawled over the stairs, it could be seen that the injuries she had received were not light.

“Madam Pei! Are you alright?” The emcee was stunned when he saw the sedan breaking into pieces out of nowhere. What happened? This antique was fine just a second ago, so how come it suddenly broke into pieces?

The emcee was stunned, and the organisers were just as stunned.

However, the surprises were yet to be over.

While they were helping Madam Pei, the doors of the auction house were kicked open, and a bunch of police officers came hurrying inside. They looked at the organisers with their guns raised in the air.

“Freeze! You are under arrest,” the leader of the police officers shouted. She looked at the two organisers and said to them, “Someone complained that you are selling a drum made from human remains.”

When the man heard the words of the police officer, he dropped Madam Pei back on the stairs. The pain alone was enough to make Madam Pei pass out, but when she heard that the precious drum that she had bought for more than a hundred million was made of human remains; she couldn’t even pass out.

“H–Human remains?” Someone in the crowd squeaked. They turned to look at the organisers and then at the police officers. “Is that true– was that drum really made of human remains?”

“Of course not!” the man in charge was flustered. He couldn’t believe that things had escalated in this way. He turned to look at the woman who stood next to him and eyed her carefully. They have been so careful the entire time, so how come they were caught?

They were not the only ones flustered. The woman who was bidding with Madam Pei was just as panicked. She was actually the supplier of the fake goods. As for why she raised the price of the bid? It was because she was greedy for more money and would specifically target those who were raising the bid to make the bid go even higher.

She never thought that one day this move would end up going against her.

Xianqian immediately got up from the chair and turned to run out of the auction house, but just as she turned around, she noticed two police officers walking towards her.

“You need to come with us.”

“I didn’t do anything.” Xianqian immediately turned flustered, and she tried to get away from the officers. “I am just a guest who came to bid for the auction items; I did nothing wrong.”

Xianqian refused to admit that she was the supplier of the items that were being sold in the auction. However, it didn’t matter if she was willing to admit it or not. The police officers had their own investigations; thus, they knew that Xianqian was not as simple as she was making herself out to be.

When Xianqian saw that the police officers were not letting her off, she turned around on her feet and tried to run away. However, before she could take another step, something tripped her, causing her to fall. When Xianqian looked behind her, she realised that there was absolutely nothing where she had tripped.

What the —did she trip on air?

She was not the only one who noticed it. Some of the guests also noticed that Xianqian had fallen without anyone pulling or tripping her.

Their eyes widened, and they looked at one another.

“It must be the grudging ghost of the person who died in their hands,” said a mer softly. “They must have come here for revenge.”

As soon as the mer finished speaking, a chill Xianqian crawled down her spine, and she shouted, “Shut up! I have done nothing —”

She was still speaking when suddenly her words were cut off. She touched her throat, which was rolling, but couldn’t make a sound and felt suffocated. Her eyes rolled back in her sockets, and she tried hard to get rid of the cold feeling that was around her neck.

“AHH! GHOST! THERE IS A GHOST!” a mer screamed when he saw Xianqian frothing from her mouth. The woman was perfectly fine, so how come she was suddenly choking on thin air?

Everyone turned to look at the woman who was clawing her neck as if she was getting throttled. They immediately took a step back from Xianqian. No one wanted to be dragged into a mess. What if they tried to save the woman, and the thing that was attacking her attacked them as well? Anyway, this was Xianqian’s comeuppance.

She was the one who killed these poor souls, so why should they come between their revenge? When they thought things through like this, the remaining worry and guilt were wiped clean from their hearts.

They even started to chant and pray for the souls who were bullied and killed by Xianqian.

He looked at the praying humans and then looked down at Xianqian, who was out of breath. Xiao Hei then paused and thought about it a little before curling his tail even tightly around the throat of the woman. Well, since he no longer has to worry about it anymore, he might as well have his fun.

He, too, had been storing quite a lot of stress in his mind.

Qi Yongrui looked at the scene in front of him and then turned to look at his wife, who was having quite a lot of fun. He wanted to say something, but then he thought about it, and he decided not to breathe a word.

“Boss!” Long Zhong rushed inside the VIP room with the long list of antiques that Qi Yongrui had brought from the auction.

When Qi Yongrui saw the mer, he felt his head throb. He had a sense of foreboding that only strengthened even further when he saw that Long Zhong was looking rather worried.

“What happened?” Qi Yongrui asked in a soft voice.

“It is really bad!” Long Zhong spoke up in a worried and anxious voice. “Except for a little pot that you bought from this auction house, everything else is fake!”

Boom!

Qi Yongrui felt his head explode when he heard the appraisal report. Though he was more or less prepared for it, he still felt quite deeply shaken when he heard the report of his assistant.

Only one pot? Just how greedy these people were! They didn’t even sell a single authentic antique.

Fuelled with rage, Qi Yongrui snatched the report. The more he read, the more his brows furrowed, and in the end, he was breathing so hard that it seemed like he was about to breathe fire.

Long Zhong didn’t waste another second, as he could see that Qi Yongrui was really angry. He helped the mer with his wheelchair and then watched Qi Yongrui control the machine on his own. The mer was so angry that he didn’t even need anyone to push her anymore.

Luo Huian watched the mer leave and decided to follow him. If he got bullied, then at least she would be there to protect him.

Chen Mingyu also rushed out of the VIP room after taking a look at the appraisal reports that his assistant brought with him.
