Chapter 1444: A twisted situation
Mo Qiang looked at the large crater that Fu Shi had created with one single move of hers and pursed her lips in a thin line. She knew that there was something amiss with this woman the second she saw her. But Mo Qiang never thought that Fu Shi would go this crazy!

This power, if she wasn’t wrong, then it was the same one that had been keeping an eye on her.

She raised her head and took a glance at Fu Shi, who didn’t even know it, but her face had twisted into a coveting sneer. The same kind where someone was starving and staring at the bowl of food in the hands of someone else. The bowl that they couldn’t have but still wanted to snatch.

Mo Qiang shuddered and stepped back. She raised her hands in the air in a surrendering motion and said to Fu Shi, “Your highness, with all due respect, I don’t think I can do what you want me to do.” Either this woman wanted her body, or the zerg queen remnants that were awakening inside of her required her body as a vessel.

Anyway, the two of them were coveting her body, and Mo Qiang was not foolish enough to let them have it.

Of course, her refusal was equivalent to slapping the latter in the face. Thus, the second she finished speaking, Fu Shi’s face flushed red, and she swung her hand in the air, causing the shadows to stir and attack Mo Qiang.

BANG!

“Umm?” Xiao Jiao, who was sleeping in the Mo mansion, raised her tiny paws in the air and arched her back. Her black, grape-like eyes were looking around as she yawned heavily. Because she had been sleeping for a while now, her head was sort of fuzzy, and she had no idea what was going on for a few seconds.

“Ah Qiang, I am hungry; bring me some sunflower seeds to eat,” feeling the rumble in her stomach, Xiao Jiao called Mo Qiang to bring her some seeds to eat but as soon as she finished speaking, there was a loud explosion and the dark mana made Xiao Jiao jump up in the air with a yelp.

Her wings fluttered uneasily behind her as she turned to look at the window on the side. “What—what was that?” Why was there a burst of demonic energy?

Xiao Jiao frowned as she smoothed her fur that was standing on the end and then flew over to the window. She thought that she was the one overthinking and made a mistake, but when she looked at the cloud of dust that was rising in the air, her eyes widened.

Oh no. How long was she asleep when the lord of the underworld sent a demonic being to take over this world? What was going on?

Though Xiao Jiao had a lot of questions that she needed answers to, she knew that it was not the time. Thus, she opened the window and flew out of the house; she needed to follow the trail and see if Mo Qiang was alright.

Xiao Jiao had to fly for more than one and a half hours before she finally came to a stop at a small mountain that had a bunch of boulders piled up at the corner. When Xiao Jiao saw the tiny mountain of boulders, her expression shifted, and she gasped heavily.

With a terrified expression, she rushed to the boulder mountain and started pulling the small boulders. As she caught the small rocks and pulled them out, her eyes couldn’t help but tear up. She sniffed and muttered, “Mo Qiang! You heartless woman, you cannot die yet. If you die now, what will we do?”

Xiao Jiao started crying when she saw that the boulders were not as easy to move as she thought; even with her strength, she was worried that it would take her an hour to move this small mountain. By then, Mo Qiang would be squashed to death!

Ahhh!! They could not allow such a thing to happen.

Somewhere, she was thinking that maybe Mo Qiang was not under the boulder mountain, but that was until she found out about the small monitor that Mo Qiang wore on her wrist. As soon as she procured the device from underneath the pile of boulders, Xiao Jiao’s shoulders started to shake under the pressure. “Why—why is it here? Is she really under the boulder?”

The little squirrel’s face turned blue with fear as her knees hit the ground. “Damn it,” she punched the rough surface and stated, “Why? Why did such a thing happen? If I had known that Xiao An would fail to protect you, I would have looked for someone else to keep you safe.”

“No wonder I felt that something was going to go very wrong when I went to sleep. Even though I was sleeping, I kept having nightmares and couldn’t sleep without worries. I should have known that Xiao An could never give you the same divine protection as I. Wahhh!! Mo Qiang, you need to come back or else this world will be doomed—”

Cough.

When Xiao Jiao was crying, the pile of dirt at the other side of the mountain stirred, and Mo Qiang, who was buried underneath, sat up straight. She spat out the dirt that had fallen in her mouth and turned to look at Xiao Jiao, who was crying just now. She did hear a familiar voice and was troubled.

The last time she heard the voice of this little fairy, she ended up dying. And it scared her so much that she stood up at once, thinking that she was dead once again. Fortunately, it was a false alarm, or else she would have turned into a lingering ghost with the pile of regrets that she had in her heart.

“Jiao Jiao?” Mo Qiang coughed and spluttered as she called the little squirrel, who raised her head and turned to look at Mo Qiang. At first, the little one was stupefied, but then she jumped in the air before flying straight towards Mo Qiang’s face. She reached out and hugged Mo Qiang by her face and questioned in rapid-fire motion, “Are you alright? Did it hurt anywhere?”

“It is great that you are awake. I missed you.” Instead of answering her questions, Mo Qiang made a casual remark, which further troubled Xiao Jiao as she looked at her with sheer concern. “Are you alright? You never really say such touching words to me. Did you hit your head?”

Mo Qiang: “…” And there goes the warm and bubbly feeling that I had.

“I am fine.” Mo Qiang pulled the little squirrel off her face and then said to her, “I was rescued in time when I was attacked.” As she spoke, a little white fox stepped from behind her and waved her nine tails in the air. She looked at Xiao Jiao, who looked back at her, and then a second later, she gasped.

“What is this thing doing here? Don’t tell me we’re all dead!”

It took some time for Xiao Jiao to calm down. By the time Xiao Jiao calmed down, Mo Qiang felt like her mouth was about to fall off. The little squirrel was way too hyperactive.

Xiao Jiao, who had calmed down, was now pondering over the things that Mo Qiang had said to her. Her expression was tight as she remarked, “This is not good.”

“I know I heard that the zerg queen was not easy to defeat the last time she surfaced,” Mo Qiang remarked, but then she saw Xiao Jiao shake her head, which confused her even more. “What’s the matter?”

“I used to think that the zerg queen was a new creature that had become sentient after going through countless mutations, but it seems like we were wrong. The so-called zerg queen is not a mutated monster but the shadow of a demonic being.”

Mo Qiang was quite surprised when she heard the words of the little spirit. She blinked her eyes and questioned, “A what?”

“A demonic shadow,” Xiao Jiao’s face was twisted in a sneer as she said, “Did I not tell you that the gods and goddesses were getting weak due to the humans losing faith in them? It could be said that the ones in the underworld had the same problem.”

“As humans shifted to technology and science, their faith in gods started to waver, and you might already know this, but the gods and the goddesses need the faith and the divine prayers of their devotees to stay alive. If their devotees stop believing in them, that’s where the gods will start to fade.”

“It seems like the same thing happened with the underworld. With the humans stopping to believe in the gods, they also stopped fearing the underworld. It was not a surprise that the lord of the underworld decided to ascend to the human world to regain the fear that she had once lost.”
