Chapter 100: Tonight on the KKK Show IV
INN Studios – The Konrad Kain Show
The video call connected, and Jessica Nocturne’s face filled the green screen.
Instantly, the studio erupted.
Applause thundered through the space as fans cheered and whistled. Jessica, dressed elegantly in a sleek black dress, smiled gracefully as she waved to the crowd.
“Thank you, thank you!”
There was such a warmth and charm in her voice.
Her voice was so soft and delicate that anyone who heard her felt an almost instinctive urge to protect her, like she was a princess or a damsel in distress. It was one of those irresistible charms that had men glued to her movies.
・・・
Back in Nadia’s apartment…
Scott shot up from the bed like a rocket.
“Yes! Jessica Nocturne!”
He shouted as he pumped his fist in the air several times.
Still seated on the couch, Nadia blinked in shock.
Her wide eyes followed Scott’s animated display before she broke into a stunned laugh.
“Wait… dude, you’re a Jessica Nocturne fanboy?”
Scott froze mid-celebration as his hand awkwardly hovered in the air. He glanced at her and scratched the back of his head sheepishly.
“Uh, what? No, I’m not a fanboy!”
He crossed his arms.
“I just… like her acting. And, uh, she’s pretty hot. But that’s it. Totally normal stuff.”
Nadia smirked, leaning back with her arms crossed.
“Oh, really? Because the people who watch her movies tend to fall into three categories: fangirls, simps, or those who actually appreciate her acting and sometimes her sex appeal. Which one are you?”
Scott tilted his head as his face scrunched in thought.
“Me? I’m none of those. Like I said, I respect her acting. I mean, come on, her performance in Alucard’s Bride 1 and 3? Pure Oscar-worthy stuff! The haters can say all they want about her being ‘sexy as hell,’ but if that’s all she had going for her, she wouldn’t have won two Best Actress Oscars.”
He nodded with certainty before adding.
“Oh, and I can’t wait for Alucard’s Bride 4 next month. Gonna be amazing.”
Nadia arched a brow, then her lips twitched with amusement.
“Wait a second. What about Alucard’s Bride 2? Why not mention that one?”
Scott hesitated, his face contorting into a grimace as he made a hesitant “iffy” gesture with his hand.
“Eeehh… it was okay. But, uh, there was a lot of racial controversy about the cast. That really tanked its reputation, so… yeah.”
Nadia hummed thoughtfully. “Hmm, maybe we should check out the trilogy sometime.”
Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".
Scott blinked. “We? Like, you and me?”
“Yeah…”
Nadia said casually, shrugging.
“Why not? We’re friends, right? Watching movies is a great way to bond.”
Scott shrugged, pretending to be nonchalant.
“Well… alright, I guess. If you’re up for it.”
・・・
Back at the studio…
Jessica Nocturne giggled softly as her slender hand covered her mouth. The audience was still cheering wildly, and Konrad grinned, clearly basking in the excitement.
“Jessica! Great to have you here tonight!”
Konrad said warmly.
“How’re you feeling being on the KKK Show?”
From behind the camera, a stagehand’s panicked voice called out, “Uh, sir? You can’t say that…”
Konrad’s eyes widened for a moment before he burst into laughter, slapping his knee.
“Oops! My bad, folks. That didn’t come out right!”
The audience roared with laughter, and Jessica pinched her nose, trying to stifle her own giggles.
“Oh, Konrad… you’re always full of surprises.”
Konrad wiped a tear from his eye and straightened up.
“Glad you’re here, Jessica. As always, you’re a delight! My family loves you—my daughters especially. And why wouldn’t they? You’re the face of the supernatural genre! The only actress who managed to bring back the vampire craze of 2015!”
The crowd erupted into more applause, whistling and clapping at the heartfelt praise. Jessica’s cheeks flushed pink as she ducked her head modestly.
“Thank you, Konrad~ that really means a lot. I’m so grateful for my fans—and for your family’s support, of course.”
The tenderness of her voice was always a treat.
Konrad beamed.
“You deserve it! I mean, seriously, Jessica. You’ve got talent, charisma, and the looks to match. No wonder people adore you!”
“I-, I try my best, mhmm~”
Jessica giggled again and brushed a strand of golden hair behind her ear.
“Alright, alright…”
Konrad held up his hands.
“Enough flattery—for now. Let’s talk about why you’re here. Specifically, the blue-eyed Greek god who’s got the internet losing its mind…”
Before he could finish, Jessica’s face turned bright red.
She let out a soft laugh, then lowered her beautiful blue eyes as she covered her mouth.
The audience went wild at her reaction, clapping and cheering even louder.
・・・
Elsewhere…
Bella Trevors groaned, rolling her eyes as she slumped back in her lounge chair.
“Oh, great… they’re praising that dumb bitch again. She’s not even that good of an actress! All she does is vampire movies. So stupid.”
Grabbing her phone, she scrolled through Chirper, hoping to distract herself.
An impish grin spread across her face.
“Let’s see what they’re saying about me…”
━ ━ ━ ━
Konrad leaned back in his chair. He motioned off-screen as his voice boomed with theatrical excitement.
“Well, Jessica, you’re not alone tonight! That next to him is the man, the myth, the legend—The Peak!”
The camera panned to the side to reveal The Peak sitting stiffly in his chair.
He was currently the embodiment of unease.
The audience erupted in cheers and applause, though his halfhearted wave and forced smile easily told them… as a result, they didn’t applaud any longer than three seconds.
Jessica’s eyes lit up, and she waved enthusiastically at The Peak.
“Oh my gosh, hi! It’s so great to see you!”
The golden-haired superhero offered a curt nod and a quick, unconvincing smile.
“Uh… yeah, hey.”
Konrad chuckled and turned his attention back to Jessica as he ignored The Peak’s sour mood.
“Alright, Jessica, let’s get to the juicy stuff. You’re one of the top celebrities who’s been all over this Scott news ever since it exploded. What’s your take on everything? And—”
Konrad leaned in like they were planning a heist.
“—there’ve been some spicy rumors about Bella and The Peak here being a thing. But between Bella’s Nightwatch cosplay and that… shall we say, thirsty Chirper caption, plus her recent posts about hunting down Scott, it seems like Bella’s interest in The Peak might not be all that romantic. What do you think?”
The Peak’s face darkened with every word.
He gritted his teeth, and his expression was one of barely concealed irritation. He muttered something under his breath, but the microphone didn’t catch it.
However, the audience was too engrossed in Jessica to even notice.
Jessica pressed her whitish palms together and took a deep breath.
“Well, Konrad, I can’t really say much about Bella. We worked together on Sorority Girls in New Jersey, but we haven’t talked much since then. I do have her number, though, so maybe I’ll shoot her a message and give you an update tomorrow?”
The audience chuckled, and Konrad laughed heartily as he clapped his hands.
“Haha! Fair enough, fair enough. By the way, Sorority Girls in New Jersey—what a film! I heard it got a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and an 8.1 on IMDb! That’s a winner in my book. How much did you make off that gem?”
Jessica tilted her head, tapping her chin in thought.
“Hmm… I think it was somewhere between ten and thirteen million dollars? But that’s not really why we’re here, right?”
Konrad leaned forward even more.
“True, true. But let’s switch gears. Whenever we talk about hot men on this show, or even on the Internet as a whole, one name always comes up—William Roosevelt. The guy’s a legend, the ultimate hottie, and your co-star in the Alucard’s Bride trilogy. You’ve kissed him more times than we can count and had some pretty spicy scenes with him. So… how does Scott compare?”
The crowd roared and drowned out Konrad’s voice as Jessica’s cheeks flushed a deep pink.
She covered her face with her hands, laughing softly.
The Peak rolled his eyes and muttered.
“William Roosevelt isn’t that hot. I’m way better-looking than him…”
He glanced around, but no one seemed to notice—or care.
All eyes were on Jessica.
Jessica bit her lower lip, trying to suppress her smile.
“Well… yeah, I’ve worked with William enough times to compare him to other men. But I can’t really say Scott’s more good-looking than him…”
The audience erupted in playful boos, and Konrad joined in, shaking his fist dramatically.
“Booooo! Jessica, how could you? The Scott fan club is coming for you!”
Jessica ducked under the webcam for a moment, peeking out with a sheepish grin.
“Come oooon~ let me explain!”
Konrad folded his arms, pouting like a scolded child.
“Fine. But it better be good. The Scott fans are listening.”
Jessica straightened up, grabbing her glass of water and taking a sip.
“Okay, here’s the thing. William comes from a wealthy family, and he’s been gorgeous for as long as I’ve known him. He was already every girl’s crush when he was modeling as a teenager. Scott… well, he can’t quite match that legacy. Don’t get me wrong—I love the whole black-haired, blue-eyed prince charming look. But European men? They’re just in a league of their own.”
Konrad nodded sagely. “Fair enough. I think both fanbases can accept that explanation.”
Jessica clasped her hands in a praying gesture, then bowed her head.
“Please, guys, don’t bite my head off.”
The audience burst into laughter.
・・・
Back at Nadia’s Apartment…
Nadia smirked, crossing her arms as she glanced at Scott.
“Ooof. That must hurt, huh?”
Scott shrugged, completely indifferent.
“Nah, not really. Everyone’s entitled to their opinions. Besides, the fact that Jessica Nocturne even mentioned me? That’s praise enough.”
Nadia nodded thoughtfully.
“Hmm, yeah, I’ll give you that. And honestly, I’m not big on William Roosevelt either. Her saying he’s better than you? That stung a little.”
She leaned in and gently poked Scott’s cheek.
Scott grinned, then brushed her hand away.
“Hey, if Jessica Nocturne knows who I am, I’m already winning, bro.”
━ ━ ━ ━
The stage lights dimmed slightly, and Konrad glanced at the clock on his desk. His exaggerated gasp earned a few laughs from the audience.
“Oh no, folks! Look at the time…”
He announced dramatically as he tapped his wrist.
“We’re almost out of time for tonight!”
A wave of loud boos erupted from the crowd.
Konrad threw his hands up with a sheepish chuckle.
“Hey, hey, don’t shoot the messenger! I love your passion, really, but I’ve got a wife and three kids waiting for me at home. Gotta clock out sometime, y’know? But don’t worry—join us tomorrow, and I promise we’ll have something even better!”
The audience settled down.
But then, The Peak shot a hand into the air.
“Uhh, wait—what about me?!”
The crowd turned toward him for a moment.
Such fleeting curiosity.
Immediately after, their collective eyes shifted back to Jessica. Even Jessica herself barely acknowledged him as her focus returned to the host.
The Peak sighed, slumping slightly in his seat.
He muttered under his breath, “They don’t even care…”
Konrad smirked as he shifted his attention back to Jessica.
“Now, before we wrap up, I heard you’ve started filming the Blue Thunder adaptation. How’s it feel to be cast as the love interest of one of the biggest superheroes in the comic world? I mean, the paycheck alone must be wild.”
Jessica laughed softly, then gently brushed a strand of hair from her face.
“Well, I can’t say too much since we’ve only just started filming. But I promise I’ll spill all the details once the teaser trailer drops!”
Konrad nodded sagely.
“Fair, fair. I heard most of the filming will be in Metro City. Makes sense—it’s iconic for a superhero story. Just promise us you’re heading there to work, not to hunt down a certain black-haired, blue-eyed prince charming, okay?”
The audience erupted into laughter.
Jessica blushed, covering her face with both hands.
“Well, I can’t promise that… I’ll hunt him down just like our dear Bella…”
This made the crowd go wild.
“WOOOOOO-HOOOOOOO!!”
・・・
Trevors Estate, LA…
Bella stared at the TV with her arms crossed and her brow furrowed in disgust.
“Huh?! They chose Jessica over me? That’s rich!”
She scoffed, pacing the room.
“What, do they think all I can play is the mean girl or the slutty female lead? That’s such a stupid stereotype.”
She grabbed her phone and began typing furiously.
“I’m calling my agent. We’re having a long talk about this. No way this happens again.”
・・・
Nadia’s Apartment, Metro City…
Nadia grabbed the remote and switched off the TV, stretching as she stood up.
“Alright, that’s enough drama for one night. Get some rest, Scott. Tomorrow, we’re checking in on Brigid and the others at the Hero Agency’s hospital.”
Scott yawned, stretching his arms lazily.
“Oh yeah, I almost forgot about that.”
・・・
The Next Morning…
Scott stood by the door, dressed in a black-and-blue jacket over a white T-shirt and black pants.
His GT-R car key twirled lazily in his hand as he shouted.
“Nadia! You said we’d leave early, and now you’re the one running late?”
From inside, Nadia’s voice echoed back.
“Sorry! Just give me a second—I’m fixing my hair!”
Scott groaned. “Fix it faster, then!”
Suddenly, a presence behind him sent a chill up his spine.
His reflexes kicked in, and he spun swiftly, thrusting his arm out like a blade.
It stopped mid-swing.
Someone had caught his arm.
Scott’s eyes widened as he turned.
His heart skipped a beat.
“W-, Wait────HUH?!”
Standing before him, Gwen grinned, her hands casually in her pockets.
Her radiant smile was exactly as he remembered.
“Hey, Mr. Handsome. Saw you trending all over late-night TV and thought, why not pay you a visit? You know, like that one girl who rejects you then realizes she made a huge mistake and wants you back when you get famous.”
Scott’s jaw dropped. “GWEN──?!”
Gwen giggled, nodding playfully. “The one and only.”
But as Scott’s gaze shifted, he noticed his arm was still restrained.
It wasn’t Gwen holding him.
His eyes followed the slender hand gripping him, tracing it to its owner.
A woman stood there.
She was stark contrast to Gwen’s lively energy.
More than that, she was breathtakingly beautiful… if that was even the right word to use.
Moderate height, athletic yet voluptuous shape, skin as brown as coffee and smooth as margarine.
Her short, messy white hair partially obscured one of her mysterious but beautiful red eyes. Her expression was unreadable, almost bored, as she stood in an oversized jersey and black sweatpants.
Scott blinked. “And… who’re you?”
The woman pointed to herself nonchalantly.
“Me? Oh, I’m Dark Elf.”
“EH?!”
