Chapter 104: Gal Pals
Lakeview Hotel – NYC
Lady Fortress floated aimlessly in a luxurious room.
The silken curtains sway gently with her movements.
The oversized shirt she wore draped loosely over her small, fragile-looking body. Her messy blonde hair spilled over her shoulders in soft, untamed waves, and the dull lights highlighted the uncharacteristic tiredness etched on her face.
Her usually sharp blue eyes were heavy-lidded, shadowed by a restless week.
It didn’t make sense.
She was a Cortian, a daughter of the House of Alvonix, a being immune to fatigue in any ordinary sense. Yet, she felt drained, like her very thoughts were clawing at her sanity.
Her mind wandered back again.
The man in white armor.
『Mael…』
His name kept echoing in her head, along with the memory of how it felt to be in his arms. She couldn’t forget the way she felt when he talked to her—not like she was some untouchable, godlike being, but just a person. It was the kind of connection she’d been longing for ever since she came to Earth.
She remembered the way he had saved her.
That unexpected vulnerability she hadn’t known she possessed laid bare in front of him.
It’d been over a week since then, and despite the constant barrage of thoughts, she hadn’t seen him, hadn’t heard from him.
Not even a stream.
『If this goes on any longer… I might gain an unhealthy obsession about that globnorb!』
She folded her arms around herself and gently hugged her petite body. A flush crept across her cheeks and warmed her usually cool, pale complexion.
“I’m not interested in him…”
She sounded more like an annoyed child than the mature woman she habitually was.
“I’m just… grateful. That’s all. I just want to… see him again… to know who he is.”
Her arms tightened as a wave of frustration washed over her, and she sucked in her breath sharply, biting her lower lip. The moment lingered too long, and she shook her head violently as if to dispel the treacherous thoughts.
“What’s wrong with me?”
The petite lady couldn’t think straight.
“I’ve never been like this. The House of Alvonix would… would find this shameful.”
Her mind flicked to Fortitude, her cousin.
The image of his perpetually judgmental face morphed into an exaggerated expression as his cheeks puffed up like a blurbengawk. She could almost hear him gossiping to the others in their family, reveling in her torment.
The thought made her float higher in her nervous fidgeting, and she barely noticed when her feet lifted off the polished marble floor.
Her cheeks burned hotter.
“And he… he saw my body…”
Her voice barely rose above a whisper as she buried her face in her hands.

“I’m the daughter of a high-ranking General… my body is sacred… and he saw everything.”
Steam practically erupted from her head as the realization hit her like a meteor.
“Ev—every part!”
Her lips trembled like a child holding back tears.
“I—I’m a whore, aren’t I?”
The words left her mouth before she could stop them, and the shame that followed was enough to make her curl into herself mid-air.
She clenched her fists as her body vibrated.
“No, no! I didn’t let him see it. I was unconscious… so he had no choice!”
But even as she tried to convince herself, another thought clawed its way to the surface.
“But why… why am I okay with it?”
Her blue eyes widened in horror, and she grabbed her cheeks with her small fingers.
“Why am I fine with the idea of a man seeing me naked? Only a woman with no sense of self-respect would be fine with that!”
Her mind spiraled further into chaos.
“Have I… somehow become a… a whore? Can I even call myself a virgin anymore? Should I just—just wear short shorts and tape my nipples and start working as a prostitute for some random pimp named Daddy Love who’ll turn me into a drug-addicted sex rat?!”
The ridiculousness of her own words made her groan loudly, and she threw her head back in despair, floating higher and higher until—thunk!—her head hit the ceiling.
She floated there, her arms crossed, eyes unfocused, her lips pressed into a thin line.
“What do I do now?”
She sounded so defeated.
“Do I… make him take responsibility for seeing me… na—na—naked?”
The word burned her tongue like molten lava, and she immediately covered her face with her hands.
“Or do I just… let him be?”
Her voice echoed softly in the grand room, and for a moment, there was only silence. Then, as her words settled, she groaned again, louder this time.
“Ugh! Why am I even thinking about this? He’s probably not even thinking about me!”
She kicked the air in frustration, then sent herself spinning gently as her golden hair fanned out around her.
And yet, the feel of Mael’s calm, soothing presence wouldn’t leave her mind. No matter how hard she tried to push it away, it stayed… persistent.
『… 0ppMaybe I just need to see him, yeah!』
There was a desperate look on her face.
『Just once. To… thank him properly. That’s all.』
But deep down, she knew it wasn’t just gratitude.
And that thought made her cheeks burn even brighter.
In walked Pulsar.
Her sharp purple eyes darted upward, immediately noticing the peculiar sight.
“Eh?”
She was deeply confused.
Lady Fortress’s golden hair swayed slightly as she remained stuck headfirst into the ceiling. Her arms crossed, her small figure floated in a pose that would’ve looked serene—if not for the utter desolation on her face. Her wide, blue eyes stared blankly at the abyss, her cheeks flushed crimson as if she’d been caught red-handed in her thoughts.
The oversized shirt she wore barely hung on her slender body as her legs dangled lazily mid-air.
Pulsar crossed her arms, tilted her head, and sighed.
“Earth to Lady Fortress!”
She called out, then waved a hand casually.
No response.
Raising an eyebrow, Pulsar floated up to her level.
She hovered inches from Lady Fortress’s face and waved her hand closer.
Still nothing.
“Hmm…”
Pulsar leaned forward until their noses almost touched.
“Lady Fortress…”
Nothing.
Pulsar rolled her eyes, snapped her fingers an inch from Lady Fortress’s face, and shouted, “HELLO?”
Lady Fortress blinked rapidly, jerking back as if she’d been struck by lightning.
“Wh-, What──?!”
Her blue eyes darted wildly.
Pulsar raised her eyebrows and crossed her arms.
“You tell me. You’ve been glued to the ceiling for who-knows-how-long. What’s going on?”
Lady Fortress looked away quickly as her cheeks grew redder.
“I was just thinking…”
She spoke stiffly as she folded her sylph-like arms tighter across her chest.
“About something important. It’s no big deal.”
“Uh-huh.”
Pulsar floated closer, scrutinizing the tiny blonde.
“You sure about that? Because you look pale, and…”
Pulsar tilted her head, narrowing her eyes at Lady Fortress’s burning cheeks.
“Are you blushing? Your face is super red.”
Lady Fortress panicked and waved her hands dismissively.
“No, I’m not!”
Pulsar wasn’t convinced.
She placed her hands on Lady Fortress’s cheeks as her expression grew serious.
“Whoa! You’re burning up! Are you sick? Wait, that doesn’t make sense… you can’t get sick!”
Her eyes widened in horror.
“Oh no, it must be some kind of… space virus!”
Lady Fortress slapped her hand over her face and groaned as she dragged it down dramatically.
“No! Stop it, Pulsar! I’m fine. Just… don’t worry about it, okay?”
Pulsar lowered herself back to the floor, her bare feet touching the cool tiles. She cocked her head and tapped her chin with one finger.
“If you say so. But if you’re dying of some alien fever, don’t come crying to me.”
Lady Fortress sighed heavily, then also lowered herself to the ground. Her body looked even smaller as her toes tapped the floor, and she folded her arms tightly.
“It’s not something a doctor or room service can fix.”
Pulsar raised an eyebrow but decided to drop it.
“Fine, fine. But if you keel over, I’m calling the press. ‘Lady Fortress succumbs to mysterious alien disease’—front-page news.”
Before Lady Fortress could respond, the bathroom door swung open, and Miss Mercury strutted out.
Her normally pristine appearance was… less than perfect.
Her dark-brown hair stuck out in wild tufts like she’d just been electrocuted, and her tights were rumpled and slightly torn. Both her hands were smeared with a strange, sticky residue, and her phone—clutched tightly in her right hand—looked like it had been dunked in syrup.
“Phew!”
Mercury exhaled loudly, looking utterly satisfied.
A lazy grin spread across her flushed face as she leaned against the doorframe.
“Man, that felt great.”
Steam visibly wafted from her breath, and her cheeks were glowing bright red.
『Touching myself to Scott has to be the most spiritually uplifting thing I’ve done in days! Ahhh~ ❤️』
Pulsar blinked, then frowned. “Uh… Mercury? What exactly were you doing in there?”
Mercury stretched languidly, tilting her head back as she let out a soft, almost purring sigh.
“Let’s just say… it was hot in there.”
Pulsar’s frown deepened. “Hot? You mean your… piss?”
Mercury snorted as her grin widened.
“Sure, let’s go with that.”
“Erm…”
But Pulsar’s sharp eyes scanned her from head to toe—the sticky hands, the messed-up hair, the disheveled tights—and her expression grew suspicious.
“… You didn’t just pee, did you?”
Miss Mercury froze as her eyes darted to the side.
“Wh-, What? Of course I did! What else would I—”
“Uh-huh.”
Pulsar’s tone was deadpan.
“Maybe you should… clean up.”
Mercury glanced down at herself and she was shocked.
“I look like a mess, jeez…”
In a fade of superspeed, she vanished into the bathroom.
Moments later, she reappeared, now wrapped in a fluffy white towel that barely covered her shapely figure.
“Done!”
She chirped brightly.
“So… how about we hit the pool? A swim sounds amazing right now.”
Pulsar’s eyes lit up, and she pumped her fists.
“Definitely! Let’s go!”
Lady Fortress took a hesitant step back.
“I’m not sure… maybe I should just stay here and—”
Before she could finish, Pulsar and Miss Mercury grabbed her arms, dragging her unceremoniously toward the door.
“Nope! You’re coming with us!” Pulsar declared.
Lady Fortress didn’t resist.
She sighed as she let herself be dragged along.
Miss Mercury glanced back at the little lady being dragged along the ground as her butt skid across as she and Pulsar pulled her. It was kind of funny, but she managed to hold back her laughter and stay focused.
“Come on, Fortress. Team bonding time!”
As they headed toward the pool, Fortress sighed again.
『Why do I even bother?』

Private Pool at Lakeview Hotel…
The infinity pool at the rooftop of the Lakeview Hotel reflected the dazzling skyline of New York City.
It was shimmering. It was beautiful.
Emma stood at the center of the poolside with her hands firmly planted on her massive hips. Her confidence was clear as she took a deep breath of the fresh air and smiled.
Her yellow eyes surveyed the area.
“Finally! This is exactly what we needed. We’ve already washed up, and now, all that’s left is a good soak in this beauty of a pool!”
Maya’s face lit up while her youthful energy radiated as she shot a fist into the air.
“Yay! Time to relax!”
However, Zyra wasn’t as enthusiastic.
Standing near the edge, the Cortian superhero twiddled her fingers nervously as her golden hair caught the warm light. Her cheeks were slightly flushed, and she avoided meeting Emma’s gaze.
“Hmm… I’m not sure if I want to swim…”
Zyra mumbled with a soft voice.
It was unlike the blunt and confident Lady Fortress.
Without the cape… and sometimes her clothes, she was a pretty awkward young lady.
“Can’t we… do something else for fun? Like patrolling the city? You know, in case there’s danger?”
Emma threw her head back and laughed heartily.
“No way! Definitely not doing that. We’ve got our Medal of Honor ceremony tomorrow, remember? My boyfriend’s going to be watching, and I’ve gotta look fresh and rested for him!”
Maya folded her arms as her dark purple eyes narrowed playfully.
“Why didn’t you just bring your boyfriend with you, huh? Or is this still about the whole harem problem?”
Emma groaned but shook her head, brushing a strand of brown hair over her shoulder.
“Ugh, no. I love him too much to argue about that. It wasn’t even his idea—someone else suggested it. But I’m not mad about it anymore, alright?”
Maya nodded as her expression softened.
“That’s good to hear.”
Then, as if remembering something, she tilted her head and raised a curious eyebrow.
“Oh yeah, during therapy with Dr. Goode, you mentioned your boyfriend’s name was… Scott? Or something like that, right?”
But Emma wasn’t paying attention.
She had already pulled out her phone and her thumbs were dancing across the screen as she scrolled through her messages with a wide grin.
“Uh, yeah, sure, whatever…”
Maya’s face fell as her eyes half-lidded in exasperation.
She stepped closer with her hands on her slender hips.
“Emma. Answer me. What’s his name? You’ve been keeping it vague this whole time. I just want to know so I can… I dunno, get a better idea of who he is, alright?”
Emma giggled at something on her phone, then completely ignored Maya. She covered her mouth as her beautiful eyes sparkled with amusement.
[Scott: I watched The KKK show with Nadia while eating her smoothie and fries abomination. Did you know about that? 🤔 OMG, she even tricked me into licking her fingers lol, I feel like a friggin’ dork.]
This made Emma giggle more.
“He licked her fingers… so jealous!!”
Maya blinked. “Wait… what?”
Emma continued typing.
[Emma: Seems like you’re having fun, hehe. I’m chilling with Pulsar and Lady Fortress. Thinking of taking a selfie—should I tag Nightwatch? :P]
Scott’s reply came quickly.
[Ooooh, yeah, tag me! Add a heart too, kek.]
Emma giggled even more as her cheeks dimpled and she sent back a heart emoji.
[For you 🫴❤️…]
[😳 now I can sleep peacefully.]
Emma ran her tongue over her teeth.
“He’s so cute sometimes…”
Maya edged closer, trying to peek over Emma’s shoulder.
“Hey! What are you typing?”
But Emma instinctively turned away, shielding her phone.
“Private convo, Maya. Chill.”
Maya groaned loudly, throwing her hands up.
“You’re impossible!”
Scott’s final message popped up.
[Nadia’s forcing me to go sleep, so we’ll talk later. Good luck tomorrow, babe. Love you. 💖]
Emma smiled softly and sent another heart emoji before putting her phone away. Turning back to her colleagues, she clapped her hands.
“Alright, ladies, before we dive in, we need a group selfie!”
Maya grinned. “Finally, something fun!”
Zyra hesitated, her cheeks still pink.
“U-, Um, sure… I guess.”
Emma whipped out her phone, then quickly pulled Maya and Zyra close. With the city skyline behind them and the pool sparkling under the fading city lights, the three heroes struck a pose.
Emma beamed with confidence, Maya flashed a peace sign, and Zyra offered a small, shy smile.
“Say ‘Best Team Ever!’ guys!”
“Best Team Ever!”
They chorused.
What they didn’t know was that this picture would set the entirety of social media ablaze.
