Chapter 114: Medal Ceremony, Final Business
Leisure Room, Overwatch Headquarters…
A holographic screen displayed the live broadcast of the medal ceremony.
Rhinoman stood with his arms crossed as his massive frame nearly blocked the screen for the others. Gadget Girl leaned against the back of a chair, absently tinkering with a small gadget in her hand, while Ruse and Mr. Sphere stood nearby, whispering something among themselves.
On the plush sofa, Scott sat comfortably, Brigid fast asleep with her head resting on his lap.
… snooooree~
His fingers gently combed through her hair as Gwen sat beside him, her head leaning against his shoulder. Her eyes stayed glued to the broadcast, but every so often, she’d glance at Scott with a faint smile on her lips.
The smell of something savory wafted into the room as Nadia entered, carrying a huge steaming pot of noodles.
“I hope I’m not too late!”
She sounded light and cheerful.
“Please tell me they haven’t started yet. I can’t miss this!”
Scott glanced up with a small smile. “You’re just in time.”
Nadia grinned and approached with a bowl and fork in hand.
As she neared Scott, she held the bowl out but pulled it back just as he reached for it.
“Wait. Taste it first…”
She teased and twirled a bundle of noodles onto the fork.
Scott chuckled, opening his mouth as Nadia fed him the hot, saucy noodles.
He chewed thoughtfully before breaking into a smile.
“Mmm. That’s really good.”
Nadia beamed.
“Right? I nailed it this time.”
She leaned down and planted a quick, soft kiss on his cheek.
“For being my taste tester.”
Scott raised an eyebrow at her.
But Gwen’s mood shifted instantly.
She straightened, frowning as her head left Scott’s muscular shoulder.
“Some friend you are, Nadia…”
Her words came out like bullets.
“How can you just… comfortably kiss him like that? You know he’s dating your best friend.”
Nadia straightened, holding the bowl and fork with casual confidence as she turned to Gwen.
“Maybe you’re as ignorant as the average teenager, but Scott’s my friend. It’s just a greeting, nothing more. Not everything has to be sexual, Gwen.”

She tilted her head slightly as a smirk marked her lips.
“Maybe that’s why you don’t have a boyfriend.”
Gwen’s eyebrows shot up. “HEY──!”
Nadia tapped the fork lightly against the bowl.
“Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go take a seat and watch my best friend get the medal she’s deserved for so long.”
She placed the bowl and fork in Scott’s hands and walked away without another glance.
Gwen stared after her, fuming.
“Unbelievable…”
She muttered before turning back to Scott.
She placed a hand on his chest as she stared up at him like a defenseless puppy.
“Aren’t you going to… you know… say something?”
Scott sighed, leaning back against the sofa.
“Not really…”
He sounded so lazy.
“I didn’t say anything when you were rude to Nadia a minute ago, so why should I now?”
Gwen’s mouth fell open slightly, and she frowned.
“That’s not fair…”
Her voice became a little softer now.
“It’s not like you’d even let me kiss you on the cheek without complaining about boundaries.”
Her voice dropped into a grumble.
“You could at least pretend to like me…”
Scott glanced at her, noting the way her expression had softened into something genuinely hurt.
He sighed again, shifting slightly on the sofa.
“Alright… if that’s what you want… then feel free.”
Gwen blinked, startled. “Huh?”
Scott shrugged. “You can kiss me on the cheek if you want. I won’t complain.”
Her eyebrows shot up. “Wait—really?”
“Really.”
“You won’t complain?”
“Not even a bit.”
Gwen narrowed her eyes suspiciously. “Are you sure?”
Scott groaned as his patience slowly wore off.
“Do you want me to take it back?”
Her hands flew up in a panic.
“No, no, no! Don’t do that!”
Her mouth ran quickly.
“I just… wanted to be sure, that’s all!”
Scott nodded. “Alright then.”
Gwen hesitated, looking at him from head to toe like she was sizing him up.
Then, cautiously, she touched his face.
“Just making sure you’re real…”
She muttered before giving his cheeks a small tug.
“Not a robot or something…”
“Gwen…” Scott spoke impatiently.
“Okay, okay!”
She pulled her hands back.
She took a deep breath as her cheeks burned.
“I’ll do it. Just… don’t complain, okay?”
“I already told you I won’t.”
“And… maybe smile a little after? It’d feel nice… I guess.”
Scott raised an eyebrow. “Whatever.”
Finally, Gwen leaned in as her hands lightly rested on his chest as she planted a soft, stalled kiss on his cheek. When she pulled back, her face was glowing with an unmistakable sense of fulfillment.
Scott turned to her with a small smile. “Worth it?”
Gwen nodded, resting her head back on his shoulder.
“Completely.”

Medal Ceremony, New York City…
The mayor adjusted his tie at the podium, clearing his throat into the microphone.
His voice boomed across the grand hall, where hundreds of spectators eagerly awaited the next segment of the ceremony.
“And now, ladies and gentlemen, as we celebrate these extraordinary superwomen who have risked their lives to protect us, it is only fitting to have one of the modern era’s greatest superheroes present their medals of honor. Please give a warm welcome to the one and only… The Peak!”
The crowd erupted into cheers and applause as the curtains parted dramatically.
The Peak strutted onto the stage with his signature cocky grin, the kind of swagger that could be felt in every corner of the room.
Beside him there was a disheveled female reporter, her skirt slightly wrinkled, her hair a tangled mess. She kept her head low, adjusting her blouse and smoothing her skirt as subtly as possible.
Meanwhile, The Peak buckled his belt as his satisfied smile beamed like a neon sign.
The crowd’s reaction wavered for a moment.
Whispers broke out among some attendees as their eyes darted between The Peak and the reporter.
A few raised eyebrows and knowing smirks spread through the audience, but the applause quickly resumed as most people chose to ignore the situation.
・・・
Leisure Room, Overwatch Headquarters…
Gwen folded her arms as she stared at the screen and smirked like a smug, little imp.
“He was definitely banging that reporter.”
Reclining on the sofa with Brigid still fast asleep on his lap, Scott nodded casually.
“Yup. No question about it.”
Nadia sighed, twirling her fork through a bowl of noodles.
“I honestly don’t get it. How can someone so… awful still be this popular? People seriously need to get their priorities straight. Ugh!”
Scott glanced at her and shrugged.
“Agree with you there.”
He picked up his phone, opened Chirper, and immediately saw The Peak trending.
A blurry photo of The Peak and the reporter backstage had already gone viral, with the hashtags #ThePeak, #MedalCeremonyDrama, and #NymphoHero at the top of the feed.
The comments were already rolling in:
[The Peak can’t even get through a medal ceremony without smashing someone backstage. Absolute legend. Or degenerate. Not sure which.]
[HOLY SHIT 😱 is that… Brenda from Channel 7? Girl, how much are they paying you?!]
[SMH, I’m not even surprised anymore. Peak’s a walking HR violation. Brenda deserves better. Or… maybe Brenda doesn’t? IDK.]
[The real question: Brenda’s like a solid 4 at best… so are The Peak’s standards dropping or what?]
└ [The Peak’s the kinda guy to smile back at chopped shyt the moment he knows he hasn’t pulled an 8 in a while. I mean, bro literally got smoked by Bella and Jessica in one night 😭 how does one recover from that shi LMAO!]
└ [Time to consult the coping experts 🗿]
[Say what you want, but he’s still The Peak. He can sleep with half the city, and I’d still scream if he smiled at me.]
└ [Just say you a hoe, it’s legal 👍]
└ [Fr, average “slurp and burp” comment.]
└ [Damn, chill bro 💀…]
・・・
Scott shook his head, letting out a long sigh.
“Honestly… that guy…”
He placed his phone back on the table and turned his attention back to the broadcast.

Medal Presentation
Lady Fortress and Pulsar were already standing on the podium, their newly-awarded medals shining under the stage lights. The crowd went wild as they waved to the audience with genuine and radiant smiles.
Then Miss Mercury stepped forward as her sharp eyes locked onto The Peak with a glare that could have melted steel. The Peak greeted her with an exaggerated smile, holding up her medal.
“Well, well, Miss Mercury…”
He spoke smoothly, trying to use all his charm.
“I was wondering… what do you say we celebrate this heroic moment over drinks later? My penthouse has an incredible view of the city. Pretty sure it’ll sweep you right off your panties—uh, I mean, feet.”
Miss Mercury clicked her tongue, crossing her arms.
“You know, Peak, I’m holding out hope that one day you’ll stop being such a horndog. Maybe then I’ll introduce you to a stray dog from my neighborhood. Should be right up your alley.”
The audience gasped softly, but The Peak only chuckled, wagging his finger at her.
“Hey now, no need for language. We both know I’d never sleep with a dog.”
Miss Mercury raised an eyebrow.
“Oh really? Didn’t you hook up with Dog Girl last year?”
The Peak’s grin faltered for a split second before he cleared his throat.
“Okay, so now we’re being racist? Wow, Mercury. Didn’t think you’d stoop so low.”
“Racist?”
Miss Mercury’s voice rose an octave.
“What’s surprising is how you enjoyed it. She stinks like wet fur, for crying out loud! Like… nothing you do surprises me, but I didn’t think you’d sleep with the dirtiest female superhero in the business, blegh…”
The Peak shrugged.
“Say what you want, but she’s great at licking ass, my butthole has never felt so stimulated. I mean, that tongue of hers goes so cra—”
“DON’T…”
Miss Mercury snapped, holding up a hand.
“Don’t even finish that sentence.”
The Peak smirked.
“Fine. Just know the only reason I don’t talk to her anymore is because she bit me during, uh… extracurriculars. Friggin’ rabies, man. Total buzzkill.”
Miss Mercury’s face contorted with disgust.
“Can you just give me the medal so I can get off this stage? You’re revolting.”
The Peak chuckled again, placing the medal around her neck with an infuriating slowness.
“Game is game…”
He stepped back with a wink.
・・・
Back in the Leisure Room…
The Overwatch team burst into cheers as Miss Mercury stomped offstage with her medal gleaming proudly.
Scott clapped enthusiastically with a grin on his face.
“Oh yeah! That’s my girl!”
Nadia punched the air with her fork.
“You go, Mercury! Tell that friggin’ slimeball where he can stick it!”
・・・
Back to the Ceremony
Mayor Johnson returned to the podium.
His face was calm as he raised a hand slightly to signal the crowd to settle down. Slowly, the applause and murmurs faded into an anticipatory silence.
“Ladies and gentlemen…”
The mayor kept his tone measured.
“Before we conclude today’s ceremony, I’d like to invite a very special guest to say a few words. Please join me in welcoming the esteemed Chairman of the Hero Agency… Mr. Lymtos Kazamir Panemorfi.”
With that, the mayor stepped to the side to make way as Lymtos emerged from the shadows of the stage.
The Chairman moved with unhurried steps as his presence somehow carried a commanding force despite his plain, unremarkable face. He wasn’t tall, nor broad, nor particularly striking in any way.
Yet, his presence seemed to silence the entire crowd.
Not even the faintest whisper could be caught.
The audience watched in rapt attention as he approached the microphone with his hands clasped behind his back and his face devoid of expression.

Leisure Room, Overwatch Headquarters
Gwen shifted on the sofa to snuggle closer to Scott.
Her beautiful blue eyes twitched with curiosity as she glanced at the holoscreen.
“Oh? That’s the Chairman of the Hero Agency? Never seen him before…”
She murmured as if Lymtos could hear her.
“He looks like one of those silent old men who could ruin your life with a single phone call. Jeez, I wouldn’t wanna be on his bad side.”
Scott’s eyes lingered on Lymtos’s face.
For some reason, he felt a sense of danger.
“Yeah… I can see that…”
There wasn’t anything overtly intimidating about the man—no scars, no sharp angles to his features, no scowls or tattoos.
Just a blank, unreadable face.
And yet, something about him sent a generational chill down Scott’s spine.
・・・
On the Stage
Miss Mercury stood off to the side as her medal glimmered under the stage lights.
Rope Girl leaned closer with her arms folded as she shot a sidelong glance at her.
“So…”
Rope Girl began casually.
Still, her tone still had that formal edge to it.
“I’ve been keeping up with Nightwatch’s streams lately, but it seems like he’s been… scarce. Care to explain that?”
Her eyes narrowed.
The subtle threat in her words were impossible to miss.
Miss Mercury exhaled softly.
She suppressed the irritation bubbling inside her, then turned to Rope Girl with a polite smile.
“Why would I know where Nightwatch is? I mean, I watch his streams too. Love the guy, really. But that’s about it…”
She sounded so breezy.
Like it was a breath of fresh.
“Shouldn’t you be the smart one here? I’m sure you can figure it out if you really want to… unless, of course, he’s somehow out of your league.”
Rope Girl’s condescending smirk deepened.
Her eyes narrowed further.
“Hmph. It seems those legs of yours aren’t the only thing that’s quick…”
Miss Mercury yawned theatrically.
“And I didn’t know we started hiring socially inept women as heroes. Yet here we are. Maybe next time you should keep your mouth shut and focus on your fanboys simping for you in DMs. Maybe they know where Nightwatch is, seeing as he’s a better version of you.”
Rope Girl raised an eyebrow, truly unimpressed.
“Touché.”
Miss Mercury just smiled and held out her phone for a quick selfie.
『Hah! Scott’s gonna love this…』
She bit her medal and winked.
… click────SNAP!
She took the selfie.
Rope Girl gave Miss Mercury an irritated side-eye.
『This woman…』
She turned her attention back to the stage.
During this time…
Lady Fortress stood apart from most of the heroes.
Her arms were folded tightly as she nervously stared at the back of Lymtos.
She felt visible unease.
Something very unusual for her.
She sighed heavily as her thoughts trembled.
『I should’ve warned him… she thought bitterly. Nightwatch doesn’t deserve this. He helped me when he didn’t have to, and this is how I repay him?』
Her face fell further.
『Yes, okay, he saw me naked, but still… repaying kindness with betrayal? I’m a disgrace.』
Her face soured a little.
『A whore and traitor… I know we don’t exactly have any sort of relationship, but I’d still like to think he saved me because he’s a good person… I should’ve done more.』
… Sigh~
“Lady Fortress, please lift your head for the cameras!”
The shout jolted her out of her thoughts.
Forcing a small smile, she turned to face the flashing cameras, though the guilt still lingered in her eyes.
Also…
Adjusting the microphone with gentle movements, Lymtos finally addressed the crowd.
“Today is not your typical medal ceremony.”
Everyone remained silent.
“While we’re here to honor these extraordinary heroes, there is an urgent matter I must address. A potential threat to this city—no, to modern society as a whole. A threat you don’t even realize exists because humanity has a tendency to glorify stupidity and nonsense in the name of entertainment.”
The crowd exchanged confused glances, murmurs spreading through the hall.
Lymtos chuckled softly.
A calm smile spread across his wrinkled face.
It was a kind smile, almost angelic, yet it sent a tremble down many spines.
“I’ll get straight to the point…”
He tapped on the mic a bit.
“The individual known as Nightwatch has exactly ten days to register as a hero under the Hero Agency. If he refuses…”
His smile widened ever so slightly.
“… he will be classified as a terrorist. A strike squad will be sent to terminate him, along with anyone affiliated with him.”
The crowd erupted into gasps and whispers of shock.
Miss Mercury’s eyes widened as she first looked at the lady standing next to her──Rope Girl.
“No…”

Scott’s eyes widened as he leaned forward.
