Chapter 116: One Room, Two Ladies
Scott’s Room, Overwatch Headquarters
Inside his vast, state-of-the-art room, Scott lounged on the edge of his king-sized bed, staring at the holographic screen that floated in front of him.
The vibrant blue screen displayed the same message it had for the last hour:
[DO NOT LEAVE THIS ROOM FOR SIX HOURS.]
Scott tilted his head as his brows knitted in mild irritation.
“You know, I don’t get it…”
He swirled the half-empty water bottle in his hand.
His voice was calm, but he was very annoyed.
“This is like that one time the System told me to take a left turn on Main Street for no reason… only for a runaway truck to barrel through the intersection a second later.”
He took another sip of water as his eyes drifted to the metal door on the far side of the room.
“The thing is…”
He frowned slightly.
“If it’s that serious, you’d think it’d give me an actual explanation. But no, just this ominous message and—”
BANG! BANG!
Scott’s head snapped toward the door as the loud knocking echoed through the room.
“Scott?! SCOTT?!”
Gwen’s voice rang out, high-pitched and desperate.
“Come on, it’s not that bad!”
It almost sounded like she was begging him.
“Sure, you’re now uh… a terrorist, but it’s not like they know your identity!”
It was too silent.
“R-, Right…?”
Another round of banging followed, each one louder than the last.
“Seriously! Come on, there’s no friggin’ reason to feel bad about it!”
Scott sighed, setting the water bottle aside as he leaned back on his bed, then stared up at the high ceilings with a face that could only be described as tired.
“I’m not even mad…”
He spoke thoughtfully to himself.
“I’ve been through worse. But locking me up in here is just going to make everyone think I am.”
He exhaled deeply, clasping his hands behind his head.
“Oh well…”

Outside, Gwen was still pounding on the door.
She looked so frustrated.
“Scott!”
She yelled again.
Her flat sneakers squeaked against the polished floor as she shifted her weight impatiently.
“Why won’t you answer?! It’s literally not a big deal! You’re making it seem like one!”
A soft whisper from a corner of the hallway made her stop mid-knock. She turned to see Rhinoman and Gadget Girl peeking at her from behind the wall.
“Is Gwen dating Mr. McQueen or something?”
Gadget Girl asked in a hushed tone.
Rhinoman shook his head with the like a sage about to impart wisdom on his subordinate.
“No, no. Gwen’s more like… the third girlfriend, but she likes to think of herself as the second.”
Gadget Girl blinked. “Wait. Who’s the first? Miss Nadia?”
Rhinoman nodded sagely. “Obviously. And the second would be Little Brigid. Even though the boss doesn’t let her get too close, he lets it slide from time to time.”
Gadget Girl winced.
“Ooof. So Gwen’s like… the fourth wheel that thinks it’s the main wheel because it’s putting in all the effort? Damn, I’d hate to be her…”
Rhinoman chuckled.
“Exactly. Meanwhile, Miss Nadia barely lifts a finger, and the boss still swoons over her. Sure he won’t admit it, but hehe, this old man knows. Honestly, she’s like an angel. No one can escape her charms.”
As the two continued their whispered exchange, Gwen’s face turned redder and redder. Her fists clenched at her sides as steam—literal steam—began to hiss from her ears and nostrils.
“I CAN HEAR YOU!”
She bellowed, then spun around to face them.
Gadget Girl blinked innocently.
“Huh? That’s impossible. Do you have super-hearing or something? We were whispering.”
Gwen slapped a hand over her face.
“You weren’t whispering! You idiots were just talking in a whispery voice!”
Rhinoman straightened, clearing his throat awkwardly.
“Well, you don’t have to get so sore about it. I was just stating facts.”
Gwen’s face contorted further.
… THUD!
She stomped her foot.
“I’m NOT angry!”
She shouted as steam shot out more aggressively.
Gadget Girl raised a cautious finger.
“You… uh… you look angry. I mean, there’s steam coming out of your ears.”
“It’s my stupid powers, URGH!”
Gwen growled, causing the duo to exchange a look before quietly retreating around the corner.
As soon as they were gone, Gwen turned back to the door as her irritation still simmered.
… bang────BANG!!
She knocked again, more urgently this time.
“Scott, come on! Just say something! Anything!”
It was at this moment that a gust of wind swept through the far end of the hallway.
… zip────SKRRRRTTTT!!
Miss Mercury skidded to a halt.
She pulled off her sleek goggles and let them dangle around her neck. Her brown hair, usually tied into a high ponytail, had flattened slightly during her supersonic sprint.
With a small sigh, she slipped the hairband off and shook her head vigorously. Her hair cascaded down in waves, swishing side to side until it settled perfectly into place.
“Ahh~ much better…”
She ran her fingers through the strands, smoothing them with care as she glanced around.
Her bright yellow eyes scanned the hallway.
The white walls and gleaming metal panels looked identical to every other corridor in the building.
Her lips pursed.
“Scott said his room should be around here…”
She murmured, wrinkling her brows.
Reaching into her utility belt, she pulled out her phone and tapped on the blueprint of the headquarters. The glowing map rotated slightly as she tried to make sense of the layout.
Her eyes squinted.
“Wait, this doesn’t feel right… should’ve been two lefts, not three.”
Just then, her gaze drifted ahead.
Far across the hallway, at the very end, stood a massive, reinforced door. Standing in front of it was a blonde woman, knocking persistently.
Mercury tilted her head.
“Who’s that?”
Her brows raised slightly.
“Is she… new? Ohhh, maybe she’s the assistant I told Scott to hire?”
But her thoughts quickly took a sharp turn as her sharp eyes zeroed in on the woman’s figure—more specifically, her prominent backside.
It was like a massive peach staring back at her.
Mercury froze.
Her mouth opened slightly in disbelief as she stared at the blonde’s… assets.
“What the…” she whispered.
Her frown deepened, and instinctively, she twisted her own body, craning her neck to glance at her own reflection in the polished wall beside her.
『My ass is fat, but… this is…』
Her expression soured instantly.
“I specifically fuckin’ told him to hire someone who wasn’t attractive…”
She hissed under her breath.
“A gay man, or at least someone over forty! And instead… he picks this?!”
Her eyes flicked back to Gwen’s figure as her focus narrowed on the blonde’s impressive proportions.
Gwen’s ass was big enough to pay taxes.
That was the only way Mercury could envision it.
“Are you kidding me, Scott?”
She sounded so annoyed.
“What, was he trying to make a statement? ‘Oh, hey, Mercury, I found someone as hot as you!’ Tch, as if! I’m way better than her…”
She turned back to check her own reflection again.
Her scowl deepened as her hands rested on her hips.
“Ugh. I knew I should’ve done more squats this week.”
Her attention returned to Gwen, and before she could stop herself, Mercury extended her hands outward, framing the blonde woman’s figure as though she were an architect evaluating a blueprint.
She squinted, tilting her head.
“Hmm…”
Mercury stuck her tongue out slightly as she calculated imaginary measurements.
“There’s no way those are natural, right? Gotta be some kinda… trick, maybe surgery?”
With a decided nod, she started walking toward Gwen.
“Only one way to find out…”
As she approached, her thoughts spiraled.
『Come on, it’s not weird. I’ll just ask her routine. Like, hey, what’s your secret? What do you eat, and how many squats per set? Nothing creepy.』
Her pace quickened slightly.
『Maybe a quick poke… or squeeze. Just to check springiness. For science.』
But the closer she got, the more her irritation bubbled beneath the surface.
『She probably is natural…』
Mercury thought bitterly.
『Probably some genetic lottery winner. Or worse…』
Her lips curled into a dark scowl.
『… Scott’s horny ass probably hired her on purpose. So fuckin’ unbelievable!』
Her jaw clenched as an angelic smile began to form on her face—one that didn’t quite reach her eyes.
During this time…
Gwen knocked on the door again.
“Scott, please…”
She said quietly as her fingers curling into fists.
“Just… talk to me, okay? I don’t like seeing you like this. You don’t have to go through this alone.”
Her voice wavered slightly, and a faint blush spread across her cheeks as she glanced around the hallway to make sure no one was watching.
Unbeknownst to her, Miss Mercury had already stopped in her tracks several meters away, ducking behind a corner.
“What was that?”
Mercury hissed to herself, peeking around the corner.
Her amber eyes burned with fury as she watched Gwen’s heartfelt plea.
“It’s always the blondes… the ones with more ass than brains. Freakin’ homewreckers!”
Her fists clenched as she imagined throttling the woman.
Still hiding, Mercury extended her arm toward Gwen, shaking her fist dramatically as a sort of warning.
“I’ll kick that smug, curvy butt of yours into next week!”
“Hm?”
Gwen glanced nervously down the hallway as her bright blue eyes darted from side to side.
Her cheeks flushed deeper as she prepped her words.
『Hnnn~ this is so embarrassing…』
Her fingers curled into fists at her sides, and she closed her eyes for a brief moment.
“Okay…”
She exhaled sharply.
“I can do this. I just need to… connect with him. Stop letting him push me away.”
She glanced at the reinforced door again.
This time there was determination in her eyes.
Scott wasn’t going to isolate himself anymore.
Not if she had anything to say about it.
“Just…”
Gwen pressed her palms against the cool, metallic surface and leaned her weight into the door as her forehead rested against it.
“Why do you always do this? Why do you shut me out whenever things get remotely difficult?”
Her voice trembled but remained steady enough to carry her emotions.
“I… I just wish you’d let me in, you know? Let me be part of your world—no matter how dark or gloomy it is.”
Her lips trembled slightly, but she continued.
“I don’t care about the ugly parts, the painful parts, or even the parts you think no one can love. I want all of you… as deeply as I love the side I see every day.”
From her hidden corner, Miss Mercury’s jaw dropped slightly.
『Pssssh──cornball…』
Emma peeked around the corner with exaggerated caution as her amber eyes narrowed.
『What the hell is she saying?』
Her fists clenched tightly.
『Who does this chick think she is? She doesn’t get to talk to my boyfriend like that! That’s my job!』
She nodded firmly and her beautiful face hardened as her anger simmered.
Meanwhile, Gwen exhaled slowly as her chest rose and fell as she tried to steady her nerves.
“Okay…”
She whispered to herself.
“Now’s as good a time as any…”
She pressed herself closer to the door.
Her slender hands trembled slightly as they splayed flat against the surface.
“Scott… I’ve been meaning to tell you this for a long time.”
Her voice grew quieter.
There was vulnerability in it… great one.
It was a side she always felt uncomfortable showing.
But now, things were different.
“When we were younger, I really wanted us to… you know… date. I wanted to do so many things with you. Not just the dirty stuff I used to joke about…”
A faint chuckle escaped her.
“I wanted to be close to your heart, but I stopped myself. Because… because…”
Gwen’s voice stumbled.
She bit her lip, and her body tensed as if the words physically hurt to say.
Inside the room, Scott stood frozen just a few meters from the door, his water bottle halfway to his lips.
His brow crumpled as he listened intently.
“Come on… just say it already.”
Outside, Mercury’s head craned further out of her hiding spot as her yellow eyes held curiosity.
『Because what? What’s stopping her?!』
She gritted her teeth.
Frustration scraped beneath her surface.
『I swear, if she doesn’t spit it out, I’m gonna—』
But Gwen finally managed to swallow the knot in her throat.
“Because… my mom told me I didn’t have what it takes to love someone like you.”
The hallway fell silent.
Mercury’s eyes widened in disbelief.
Scott froze mid-step.
Gwen’s voice cracked.
“She said… the love and care of one woman wouldn’t be enough. That I’d never be enough. She didn’t outright say you were broken, but it’s what she meant.”
Her expression darkened as tears glistened in her eyes.
“And the worst part is…”
Gwen’s voice trembled vulnerably.
“I believed her. I let her words hold me back for so long, and I hate myself for it.”
Mercury’s knees buckled, and she slid down against the wall until her butt hit the floor.
She hugged her knees tightly as her chin rested on top.
『The love of more than one woman…』
She stared at her reflection in the polished floor.
Her lips pressed into a thin line.
『Have I been loving Scott the wrong way this whole time? Have I been smothering him?』
She let out a heavy sigh, her forehead touching her knees.
Gwen’s voice continued, softer now.
“If this stupid door didn’t have anti-phase tech, I’d be in there right now.”
Her cheeks flushed, but she didn’t pull away from the door.
“I’d kiss you so hard, you’d forget how to be sad. I’d…”
Her voice dropped to a whisper.
“I’d do anything to prove my mom wrong. To prove that I can love you—that I’m enough.”
Her fingers curled into fists, and she sniffled quietly.
“Please, Scott. Let me love you… all of you.”
Inside the room, Scott sighed deeply and ran a hand through his hair.
『Maybe I should just step out a bit and…』
He turned toward the door.
But just as he took a step forward, a voice suddenly shattered the tension.
“SCOTT EVELYN MCQUEEN!”
Scott froze mid-step.
His eyebrows quickly climbed up his forehead.
“…Is that Emma?”
He exhaled sharply, rubbing his temples as he turned back toward his bed.
“Maybe the System wasn’t so wrong after all…”
Meanwhile, Gwen jumped back with a startled yelp.
“AHH!”
She whipped around until her eyes landed on a furious Miss Mercury.
“Wh-, Where the hell did you come from?!”
Emma stomped forward.
She pointed an accusatory finger at Gwen.
“That’s my question! What are you doing here, spilling your guts like this?”
Gwen blinked, confused. “I was—”
“Oh, I know what you were doing…”
Emma snapped, her hands on her hips.
“And let me tell you something, Blondie—Scott doesn’t need some melodramatic confessional!”
Gwen scowled as her pretty blush deepened.
“Excuse me?! Who even are you?”
Emma leaned forward as her glare intensified.
“I’m Miss Mercury, his actual girlfriend! And you—”
She jabbed a finger at Gwen’s chest.
“—need to back the hell off!”
“Eh?”
