Chapter 123: Growth of Some Kind
Outside Room G-7, Overwatch Headquarters
Brigid pressed her ear harder against the door as her messy black hair spilled over her shoulders.
A deep scowl marred her young face.
『Damn it—how could Lord Nightwatch betray me like this? It’s obvious a wild threesome went down in this room. Ugh, I wonder what it smells like? If the air purifier isn’t on, I could probably use the scent to finish my… morning routine.』
She patted her crotch as though she was telling the burning hole between her legs to relax.
『Seriously, Lord Nightwatch didn’t even think to let me know. I could’ve stayed by his door and touched myself to the incredible sounds of my glorious king absolutely ruining those women in bed. Oh fuuuuuck~ ❤️…』
Brigid held out her fish and gnashed her teeth, wishing so badly it was her.
“Damn it, I can’t hear a thing…”
That was all she could mutter.
“Same here.”
Rhinoman groaned as his large frame towered over her while he leaned against the wall.
His brows twitched in frustration.
“What’s even the point of us standing here like idiots?”
Both of them turned to Gadget Girl, who was crouched on the floor as her junky contraption whirred and blinked with mismatched LEDs. Wires dangled from the side, and the antenna twitched like it was alive.
“Well?”
Rhinoman grunted.
“Any luck with that hunk of junk?”
Gadget Girl adjusted her oversized goggles and fiddled with a knob.
“Hold your horses, big guy. I can hear something. It’s not much, though… just some… giggling? But no real words yet. Maybe I need to—”
“Try harder!”
Brigid hissed as her green eyes narrowed.
“What’s the point of you being the tech whiz if you can’t even eavesdrop properly?”
Just as Gadget Girl was about to retort, a familiar voice cut through the tension with ease.
“Well, well… up early today, aren’t we?”
The trio stiffened, then snapped their heads toward the source of the voice.
Nadia stood a few steps away with her arms folded tightly under her breasts as her sharp eyes scanned them with an expression that could curdle milk.
The sternness in her gaze made Gadget Girl nervous to the point she dropped her device.
“Anything I should be worried about?”
Nadia’s tone was razor-sharp, each word like a dagger ready to strike.
Rhinoman instinctively backed up until he pressed himself against the wall.

“Uh, n-, nope! Nothing to see here, ma’am!”
He stammered as his usually deep voice cracked under pressure.
Gadget Girl scrambled to pick up her device, then waved her hands frantically.
“Uhh, Miss Nadia, it’s not what you’re thinking! We were just… uh…”
Her voice dwindled, leaving her lips flapping uselessly.
Nadia’s gaze shifted to Rhinoman, who immediately broke into a sweat.
His shirt collar suddenly felt too tight.
“It’s not what you’re thinking! I was just worried the boss hadn’t come out in hours, so I—uh—”
He faltered, looking desperately at Brigid for help.
Brigid blinked, looking as if she’d just realized she was part of the group. She gasped dramatically, clutching her chest as though she couldn’t believe her predicament.
“Me? Oh no, no, no, I wasn’t doing anything! I just thought Lord Nightwatch might need something to eat after, y’know… plowing two women that weren’t me all friggin’ yesterday!”
Rhinoman and Gadget Girl stared at her in horror.
Brigid continued without missing a second.
“But rest assured, I’m not so petty that I’d sneak poison into their food to kill those fat-chested bimbos and have Lord Nightwatch all to myself.”
She flashed Nadia a dazzling grin.
Nadia’s eyes narrowed suspiciously.
“You were joking about that last part, right?”
Brigid nodded so quickly it was a miracle her head didn’t pop off.
“Ahahah, of course I was joking! It’s not like I have cyanide in my back pocket, just waiting for the perfect opportunity to use it or anything—”
The moment the words left her mouth, Gadget Girl, Rhinoman, and Nadia all lunged at her simultaneously.
“Hold her down!” Rhinoman bellowed.
“Check her pockets!” Gadget Girl squeaked.
Brigid squirmed under their grasp, laughing uncontrollably as their hands searched every crevice of her outfit.
“Stop, stop! I’ll pee myself! That tickles! I swear, I don’t have anything on me!”
After a thorough search, they released her.
Brigid sat up, wiping tears of laughter from her eyes.
“Geez, you guys! I’m a superhero. Like I’d actually carry something like that.”
Nadia sighed heavily, placing a hand between her breasts.
“Well, that’s a relief. Honestly, I don’t have the energy for another drama right now. One of these days, I’m leaving you all and taking a much-needed vacation to Europe.”
“Can I come?”
Gadget Girl mumbled as she tinkered with her device, still a little flustered.
Nadia’s sharp gaze snapped to her, and Gadget Girl jolted like she’d been electrocuted.
“So…”
Nadia said, pointing to the contraption.
“I’m guessing that’s what you three were using to spy on Scott and Emma. And Gwen.”
The trio shook their heads furiously in unison.
“Nope! Not at all!”
Nadia ignored their protests and snatched the device from Gadget Girl’s hands. Holding it up, she fixed them with a glare that could silence a riot.
“No more listening in on anyone’s private time. It’s a complete invasion of privacy and completely disrespectful. Am I clear?”
The trio hung their heads like scolded children.
“Yes, ma’am.”
Satisfied, Nadia nodded smugly and turned to leave.
But just as she reached the corner, a loud, ecstatic shout erupted from inside the room.
“SCOTT ❤️!”
Nadia froze mid-step as her ears perked up.
『Did I hear that right…?』
Just like before, the voice sounded again.
“You’re such a bad boyyy~ ❤️”
This made Nadia’s body tremble even more while her very sensitive ears perked up again.
『That was Gwen’s voice… post-sex…』
Her fists tightened like she actually wanted to fight.
『No… there’s no way he had a… with them… Emma would never let that happen…』
Slowly, she turned her head to look back at the trio and then at the door.
Rhinoman, Gadget Girl, and Brigid exchanged severely panicked glances.
“Oh no…” Brigid whispered. “She’s got that look.”
Nadia placed her hand on her chin thoughtfully as her curiosity grew.
Soon, it got the better of her and she slowly approached the door of Room G-7.
Her fingers tightened around Gadget Girl’s junky listening device, and she gave it a once-over. It was poorly constructed, with random bolts, tape, and loose wires sticking out, but it seemed to work.
Still crouched near the door, Gadget Girl hesitated before raising a tentative hand.
“Uhm… Miss Nadia, if you want to listen, I can just—”
“Shh.”
Nadia held up a single finger without even glancing at her, and Gadget Girl immediately zipped her lips. Her wide eyes blinked rapidly as she nodded, then folded her arms like a schoolgirl who’d just been scolded.
Satisfied with the silence, Nadia crouched slightly and pressed the device against the door. Her other hand turned the knob to adjust the frequency as a faint static buzz filtered through the device.
“Uh-huhhh…”
She leaned in and her sharp ears strained to pick up the faint sounds coming from inside.
The moment the frequency locked in, voices spilled out loud and clear.
“Oh!”
Gadget Girl looked genuinely impressed.
“She actually managed to workout the kinks…”

Inside Room G-7
Gwen sat astride Scott’s waist as her legs folded neatly on either side of him. She had an indignant pout plastered on her face as she drummed her small fists against his chest.
“I wasn’t joking when I said you could finish in me!”
Gwen huffed as her cheeks puffed slightly.
“It’s not like it’s a bad thing!”
Scott, whose head was resting comfortably on Emma’s soft lap, stifled a yawn.
“Actually… it’s kinda good I didn’t. You know, otherwise I’d be worrying about you getting pregnant, and then instead of fighting crime, I’d be buying diapers. Yeesh. Imagine if you had twins.”
Gwen’s eyes narrowed, and she leaned forward as her juicy butt pressed against him more firmly. She could feel the strong shaft of his rod beneath his pants, but this time she didn’t mind it in the slightest. Her arms crossed under her breasts as she stared down at him with fake disgust.
“Uh-huh. Because that’s the worst thing in the world. Two little spawns of me running around? Tch!”
Scott let out a soft laugh as his chest rumbled under her.
The moment Gwen saw his smile, she scowled and smacked his shoulder lightly.
Meanwhile, Emma idly combed her fingers through Scott’s hair as her delicate nails grazed his scalp. She had a smug smile on her lips as she watched the exchange.
Closing her eyes briefly, she added her own commentary.
“To be honest, I was the one who snapped him out of making that horrible mistake…”
She raised a finger like she was delivering a lecture.
“Seems my sweetheart got so lost in plowing you that he forgot none of us should be thinking about babies until we’re in a better spot in our careers.”
Gwen turned her head sharply as her short, blonde hair whipped around as she pouted even more.
“Tch! As if I don’t already know that. There’s no harm in carrying Scott’s baby. Besides…”
She glanced to the side as her voice softened.
More so, she looked a bit too vulnerable.
“… I’ve already made up my mind about it.”
Scott’s eyebrows shot up, and he tilted his head to look at her.
“Wait, really?”
Gwen’s face turned a deep shade of red, and she avoided his gaze.
“Uhm… yeah. I mean… I really like you. So ever since we were kids, I’ve always been okay with the idea of us… having a family together. I know I only just got into Met U and all, but it’s one of those things I don’t think I’d ever regret if it were to happen at any point in our lives.”
Scott blinked, caught off guard by her sincerity.
“Wow… I didn’t know you felt that way.”
Emma’s fingers froze for a split second before she shook Scott’s head gently, forcing him to look up at her.
Her amber eyes glinted mischievously.
“Ahem. What about us?”
Emma asked with some edge to her voice.
“We’re also fine with the idea of starting a family at some point too, right? RIGHT?!”
Scott furrowed his brows skeptically. “Hrmm…”
The skepticism in his tone made Emma’s eye twitch.
“What do you mean by ‘hrmm’ huh, punk?”
Scott snickered at her gangster imitation a bit.
But somehow, he managed to give a serious response.
“Well, with the way you treat Marcus, your nephew, by the way, I think you need a major timeout before we can even start thinking of kids, young lady.”
There was such a wisenheimer look on his face.
She squeezed her face, smacked his shoulder lightly, and smirked.
“Jerk.”
Watching this, Gwen couldn’t help but giggle as she covered her mouth to stifle the sound.
Emma caught it immediately and shot her a glare.
“Hey! You shouldn’t be laughing either!”
“And what if I don’t want to, blegh!”
Gwen stuck her tongue out playfully.
Without warning, Emma grabbed a nearby pillow and hurled it at Gwen, hitting her square in the face.
“HEY!”
Gwen shouted, then grabbed a pillow of her own and chucked it back.
Emma dodged easily as her smug smirk returned.
“Womp, womp—superspeed!”
The two launched into a full-blown pillow fight on the small bed, feathers flying everywhere as they swung wildly at each other.
Still lying on the bed, Scott simply watched with a small smile on his face… arms tucked behind his head.
『Beautiful…』
His smile turned more thoughtful.
『I don’t use that word very often. Honestly, I think it’s overused, especially in today’s world. Lately, I’ve started to realize something—while I enjoy being Nightwatch, these women aren’t really in love with him. They’re in love with the things the guy behind that name has been doing. And that’s when it hit me: Scott McQueen deserves some credit too.
『He’s a great guy, even if his past isn’t perfect. I can’t deny that the people around him now, the life he’s living, and these amazing women who mean so much to him—they’re helping him grow. They’re teaching me to appreciate what I have, accept what I don’t, and embrace what I’m becoming.
『The truth is, sometimes we end up growing into someone we didn’t plan to be. But how we handle that change, how we adapt and respond—that’s what really shows how much we’ve grown.』
He grinned to himself a little and shook his head.
『I’m pretty chill with the life I have now…』
・・・
On the outside…
Nadia had a sad look on her face as she listened in on all the fun they seemed to be having inside.
『I should really remember my place…』
Her face saddened as she switched off the device and sighed very heavily.
Brigid noticed this and raised an eyebrow.
『GASP! Miss Nadia likes Lord Nightwatch──?! Such a scandalous woman!』
Almost like she could feel Brigid’s eyes drilling through the back of her skull, Nadia looked back.
“Hm?”
Quickly, Brigid threw her eyes away and started whistling like an innocent angel.

Lakeview Hotel, New York City
Maya sat on the edge of her bed as her body hunched over like a puppet whose strings had been severed. Her hollow eyes stared at the blank wall, unblinking, as if trying to carve meaning into its emptiness.
The shattered remnants of her phone lay scattered across the floor.
Her breathing was slow, almost calculated, as she stood up with unnervingly calm movements.
She floated weightlessly toward the bathroom.
The mirror greeted her with her own reflection—a face once vibrant, now pale and void of life.
She looked sick.
Maya leaned closer as her breath fogged the glass.
Her lips moved in a low and chilling calm.
“Does he not love this face anymore?”
Her fingers ghosted over her cheek.
“Have I become a disease to everyone? Is that why they keep hurting me?”
Her voice cracked slightly.
“I did nothing to deserve this… nothing!”
Her hand slammed onto the counter as she trembled with suppressed rage. Her eyes darted to the scissors lying carelessly by the sink.
Without hesitation, she grabbed them and her grip tightened as if they were the lifeline to her pain.
She raised the scissors high and plunged them toward her chest with terrifying force.
… CRACK!
The blades shattered on impact and splintered into useless fragments.
Her body remained unscathed.
The fabric of her shirt not even scratched.
Her breathing quickened as she gritted her teeth and tried again.
And again.
And again.
Each strike was met with the same unyielding resistance until the scissors were reduced to a useless, jagged stump.
“RAAAAAAHHHHHH!!”
Tears spilled down her cheeks as she let out a broken scream.
She slammed her fists into the mirror, over and over, until it shattered into a mosaic of jagged shards. Yet, her hands remained unmarked—no blood, no pain, no solace.
“FUCK IT ALL!”
She grabbed fistfuls of her hair and tore at it.
Chunks of black strands fell around her like wilted petals, and she screamed louder as her cries echoed off the bathroom walls.
“I HATE MYSELF! I CAN’T KEEP LIVING LIKE THIS!”
Her knees gave out, and she crumpled to the floor as her sobs embraced the suffocating silence.

Meteor City
Amalie Andersen sat curled up by a small fire in a dark alley. The thin, ragged blanket draped over her shoulders did little to protect her from the biting cold. Her hair was matted and her face gaunt and hollow.
She trembled as she stared into the flickering flames.
Perhaps this would warm her frozen soul.
Nearby, a group of homeless people whispered among themselves.
“Isn’t that Amalie Andersen?”
One murmured as his eyes darted toward her.
“She used to work for some mega corporation, right? Earned millions?”
“Yeah, but look at her now. Drugs, maybe? She’s gone downhill hard.”
“Drugs? Please. She always looked like a friggin’ mess. This is just… leveling up.”
“Nah… she might’ve been unkempt, sure, but not like this. Where’s her car? Her boyfriend? All that money and assets she used to have?”
Amalie’s lips trembled as a tear rolled down her cheek.
She barely registered their words, but the name she’d been clinging to slipped from her lips in a fragile whisper.
“Joe…”
The fire crackled, indifferent to her pain, as the others continued to gossip.

Rooftop, Metro City
Dark Elf crunched loudly on her chips.
She approached the edge of the rooftop.
There, a man stood. It was Grave.
She stopped halfway, lazily licking the salt off her fingers as she arched a brow.
“So… what did you come here for, huh? Got another existential crisis to dump on me?”
Grave turned to face her.
“When were you going to tell me that Nightwatch’s secret identity is Scott Evelyn McQueen?”
Dark Elf blinked, mildly surprised.
But the effort to show it wasn’t worth the energy.
She shrugged, popping another chip into her mouth.
“Well, it’s not like you asked…”
She came off very nonchalantly.
“What, you expect me to go all ‘report to the boss’ just because I found out the guy whose ass I kicked is some suburban golden boy? Sounds stupid.”
She yawned.
“And stressful. I don’t care enough.”
Grave’s eyes narrowed.
“I’ve known for a while now, but I didn’t say anything because…”
Dark Elf yawned very slothfully.
“Because he’s screwing the brains out of your sister, right? Makes sense. Oh, and maybe next time, don’t try to sound edgy with a name like Grave when it’s already your last name, genius. It’s just sooo cheesy.”
Grave tilted his head.
“Says the woman calling herself Dark Elf.”
“Fair point…”
She muttered, rolling her neck until a satisfying crack broke the tension. She leaned against the edge of the rooftop, staring at him.
“So, now that you’ve always known his identity, what’s the big plan? Gonna write him a love letter?”
Grave’s expression darkened.
“Ruin him…”
He said simply.
“The Hero Agency hired me to take him down, and they’re paying a fortune. Want in?”
Dark Elf fell silent.
For a full minute, she stared at him, crunching her chips.
Finally, she swallowed and said, “Nah. Hard pass.”
Grave sighed. “I thought so.”
In a flash, he pulled out a handgun and fired.
But Dark Elf’s reflexes were quicker.
She spun as her belt snapped off her waist and hardened into a sleek shortsword.
… SHIIIIIIIIIING!
With a single fluid motion, she sliced the bullet in half.
By the time she turned back, Grave was gone.
She yawned as she brushed crumbs off her hands.
“Ugh. I hate unnecessary drama.”
