Chapter 41: A Pretty Good Recovery
Woodhull Private Hospital: Emergency Room Corridor…
Emma walked straight toward the ER doors with a tight jaw and balled fists.
The fluorescent lights above gave off a faint buzz as she neared, but she came to an abrupt stop when the same nurse from before stepped in her way.
The woman stood firmly, arms crossed and a no-nonsense look on her face, refusing to let her pass.
“Miss…”
The nurse spoke with the calm patience of someone who had repeated this line far too many times today.
“For the last time, you are not allowed back here.”
Emma halted, glaring daggers at the woman.
Her exhaustion and anxiety boiled over into a low growl.
“Listen up… Denise…”
Emma snapped, pointing directly at the nurse’s badge with all the authority of a queen addressing her subject.
“Dr. Rosen said it’s fine for me to go in. So unless you want to explain to her why you’re making me wait here like a chump, I suggest you step aside.”
Denise blinked, visibly shocked by Emma’s sudden shift from impatient worrywart to full-blown diva. She opened her mouth to argue but froze when she caught the intensity in Emma’s eyes.
This wasn’t a bluff.
Emma was done playing nice.
“Fine…”
Denise muttered, stepping aside reluctantly.
“You can go in. I’m sorry for the misunderstanding.”
“Good. Glad we understand each other.”
Emma dusted her hands off theatrically and lifted her chin with a very cheeky grin.
She strutted into the ER with all the confidence of someone who had just won an argument with the universe itself. Behind her, Denise muttered something about “too much drama for one night…” but Emma didn’t care.
She was finally in!
—
The ER Room…
The first thing Emma noticed was the soft, steady beeping of the heart monitor.
Then her eyes landed on Scott.
He was lying still on the hospital bed, covered in layers of white bandages. His face was so heavily wrapped that it was hard to tell it was him, with only his nose left uncovered so he could breathe.
Emma’s proud strut faltered, and her expression softened into something far more vulnerable.
She tiptoed closer as her eyes scanned the monitor.
His vitals were stable.

Relief caressed her nerves, but it didn’t last long.
She pulled a chair close to the bedside and sat down, leaning forward with her elbows on her knees. Her fingers itched to reach out and touch him, to reassure herself he was really there, but she hesitated.
『He looks so… fragile…』
Her brows furrowing.
『Is he gonna be the same after this? I mean, sure, he’s survived worse. Probably. But this time felt… different.』
Her eyes drifted to the small window, where the faint glow of the coming sunrise painted the edges of the horizon.
She sighed and rested her chin on her palm.
『I know I worry too much, but… it’s hard not to. Especially when his recent stream blew up like it did. I still blame that blonde-haired bimbo, tch! Sure, the popularity’s great and all, but some of the stuff they said about him was just… cruel.』
Her eyes returned to Scott, and this time, she reached out.
Her hand hovered over his bandaged face for a moment before she gently cupped his cheek. Her thumb brushed against the fabric, and her lips pressed into a thin line.
“But that’s the thing about being popular, right?”
There was as much bitterness as there was affection in her whispering voice.
“When everyone knows who you are, not everyone’s gonna like you. Some people are just… jealous. Or mean. Or bored.”
She chuckled softly and glanced back at the window.
“But like they say, there’s always light at the end of the tunnel. You just gotta focus on the people who really care about you… who really love you. Like me.”
Her expression softened for a moment, but it didn’t stay that way for long. A mischievous lit up in her eyes, and a sly grin spread across her lips. She leaned in closer to Scott and her cheeks turned a little pink as an idea popped into her head.
『Enough of this philosophical crap!』
She violently shook her head.
『It’s not like he’s gonna tell me his secret identity or anything. So I might as well make the most of this opportunity.』
Her fingers moved to the buttons of his hospital gown, and she carefully unfastened them as her heart pounded with both excitement and guilt. As the fabric parted, revealing Scott’s chiseled chest, Emma’s jaw practically hit the floor.
“HOLY──!!”
She somehow managed to keep her voice low as heavy steam practically poured out of her ears.
“He’s built like a friggin’ lumberjack! So sexy!”
She fished her phone out of her pocket with trembling hands and snapped a quick picture, biting her lip to keep from squealing.
“Just for… personal records…”
She muttered with burning cheeks.
Then, unable to resist, she climbed onto the bed and rested her head gently against his bare chest. The warmth of his skin beneath the bandages sent a shiver down her spine.
She angled her phone for a selfie and grinned.
“Smile, Nightwatch…”
She giggled like a schoolgirl as she took the shot.
The camera shutter clicked and guilt hit Emma instantly. She sat up straight with her face still burning, and hurriedly stuffed her phone back into her pocket.
“Okay, okay, that’s enough creeping for one day…”
She settled back into the chair and her head rested against the edge of the bed as she watched the sunrise paint the room in soft orange hues.
『I should probably get him something to eat when he wakes up… yeah, I think I should…』
Emma stood up from her chair and stretched her back with a soft groan before adjusting her track jacket. Her fingers fidgeted with the zipper as she glanced back at Scott’s still body on the bed.
He looked peaceful, almost too peaceful, considering the chaos he’d gone through.
Reaching the door, Emma hesitated as her hand rested on the cold metal handle.
She bit her lip then stole another glance at Scott.
『Maybe… just one.』
The thought planted itself firmly in her mind.
Her cheeks burned at the idea, and her heart raced as she slowly turned around.
Taking very careful, deliberate steps, she walked back to his bedside.
She leaned over him and her hands trembled slightly as she reached for the bandages covering his face. Gently, she peeled the fabric back, revealing his lips—a soft, unguarded curve that made her knees feel weak.
Emma’s breath hitched.
『This is crazy… But it’s not like he’d know, right?』
Her eyes darted toward the door.
No one was around.
The steady beeping of the heart monitor filled the silence as she brushed her hair to the side.
Leaning in closer, she could feel the warmth of his breath against her skin.
Her lips hovered inches away.
The tension was thick enough to cut with a butter knife.
But just as her heart screamed for her to close the gap, her mind won out.
She pulled back sharply and shook her head as if to physically dispel the thought.
“No… no, that would be wrong!”
She muttered under her breath.
Straightening up, she adjusted her jacket again and walked out of the room with faster steps this time.
—
Inside the Room…
The heart monitor’s beeping remained steady.
The silence was broken by a calm, mechanical voice.
[Host’s current health at 60%. Initiating remaining treatment protocol to achieve full recovery.]
Scott’s fingers twitched, and his eyes fluttered open beneath the bandages. With deliberate movements, he reached up and peeled the bandages from his face to reveal his tired features.
He stared at the door Emma had just exited through and his blue eyes softening. His fingers brushed his lips as a small, almost imperceptible smile showed at the corners.
『She didn’t kiss me… but she likely wanted to. I could feel her breath…』
His smile widened just a fraction before his expression shifted to a half-lidded, exhausted look.
“The women around me are… something else.”
Scott attempted to sit up, but a sharp pain shot through his torso, forcing him to collapse back against the bed.
“Argh… Damn it.”
The System chimed in.
[Host’s body is still in recovery. Permission requested to administer advanced treatment protocols.]
Scott groaned, rubbing a hand over his face.
“Yeah, yeah. Permission granted.”
[Notice: Advanced treatment will cost 60,000 credits. Confirm purchase?]
He sighed, then nodded. “Sure. Just do it.”
[Transaction successful. Remaining balance: 430,000 credits.]
Scott’s brows shot up.
“Wait, what? 430K? That’s… a lot more than I remember.”
[Host’s most recent stream garnered significant attention, accumulating a total of 280,000 credits due to its popularity and high stakes. The amount has been added to your previous balance.]
Scott blinked in surprise, then let out a low whistle.
“280K, huh? Guess all that pain was worth something after all. Gwen getting taken though…”
Now wasn’t the time to sulk. Not at all.
He chuckled lightly before wincing at the strain it caused.
“Alright, System. Finish the treatment.”
The room hummed softly as a sleek, high-tech metal box materialized at the foot of his bed. The lid of the box split open with a hiss, and several mechanical arms extended outward, each equipped with cutting-edge medical tools.
[Deploying nano-blood injectors…]
[Deploying adrenaline patches…]
The arms moved with precision, injecting Scott with nano-blood to repair internal injuries and applying adrenaline patches to stabilize his vitals.
[Deploying gas mask…]
A small gas mask was placed over his face to deliver a sedative mist that instantly relaxed him.
His eyelids grew heavy.
[Commencing treatment to restore host to optimal health. Please remain at rest.]
Scott’s lips twitched into a faint smile as the world around him blurred.
“430K credits… and a free kiss attempt… Not really a bad deal, huh…”
His voice wisped away as the sedative took hold, and the mechanical arms continued their work, ensuring every injury was treated with the utmost care.

Hospital Lounge – Morning…
The coffee machine hummed softly through the nurse’s breakroom as three young nurses gathered together, talking quietly but excitedly.
One of them was a small brunette named Kelly, who leaned against the counter with a mischievous, cat-like grin as she held a steaming mug in her hands.
“Did you hear about the hottie they brought in last night?”
The other two, Melissa and Diane, perked up instantly.
Melissa raised an eyebrow.
“The one with his face wrapped in bandages?”
Presently, she was fixing her lipstick in a compact mirror.
“Yeah, that’s the one! He’s got a ridiculously hot body. I wouldn’t mind taking a little nibble out of it.”
Kelly’s grin expanded.
Diane scoffed at this as she shook her head.
“Kelly, you’re impossible.”
She was a tall redhead with a no-nonsense attitude.
Now applying a touch of blush to her cheeks, Melissa casually chimed in.
“Wait, wait, hold on. If there’s a guy that ripped in this hospital, I’d better start looking good. I’m not about to waste an opportunity like this.”
Kelly snorted.
“Oh, trust me. You’ll thank me later. I walked in on him this morning. He was doing push-ups, and the sweat…”
She fanned herself dramatically.
“Let’s just say my legs nearly gave out. A few more seconds and the volcano between my legs would’ve erupted, and I’ll be damned if I’m not hard-pressed to spray that body of his with it~”
Melissa paused mid-swipe with her mascara wand.
“He was sweaty? Oh, honey, I don’t mind getting a little hot and sweaty with him myself.”
Diane gave her a playful shove.
“That’s a little too much, don’t you think? We should at least try to be professional.”
Kelly and Melissa ignored her.
“I bet Dr. Rosen bandaged his face on purpose…”
Kelly spoke as she crossed her arms.
“Probably doesn’t want anyone getting distracted by how handsome he is.”
Melissa shrugged at this.
“Even if his face is average… I don’t care. I just want those strong, monster arms to grip me—roughly.”
Kelly and Melissa exchanged perverted glances and nodded in agreement.
After that, Kelly leaned closer then lowered her voice.
“But it’s weird, right? When they brought him in last night, he looked lean. A bit muscular, sure, but nothing like… this morning. He’s like a whole Greek sexy daddy special now.”
Melissa laughed so hard she nearly spilled her lotion.
“Greek sexy daddy special? You’re so dramatic.”
“No, seriously!” Kelly insisted. “I almost couldn’t look at his face. His body was just that distracting.”
Diane frowned. “Wait… weren’t you supposed to check on him and send the report to Dr. Rosen?”
Kelly casually waved her off. “Yeah, yeah. I sent one of the residents to handle it. She’ll be fine.”
“I wouldn’t be able to handle it either. If I walk in and see a sexy stud doing push-ups and drenched in sweat? Nope. I’d need a cold shower.”
Melissa smirked seductively right after.
The three burst into giggles and their chatter went on.

Scott’s Room – A Few Minutes Later…
Gina, the resident sent by Kelly, muttered under her breath as she walked down the hallway, clipboard in hand.
“They’re always sending me to do their errands. I signed up for this job to do real medical work, not cover for lazy nurses.”
She couldn’t stop grumbling.
The young lady pushed the door open without knocking, her eyes still on the clipboard.
“Excuse me, Mr. McQueen, I’m here to—”
Her voice hooked in her throat.
Right in front of her, Scott was mid-set in a series of intense push-ups. His lean, muscular physique glistened with sweat, while his movements were precise and fluid. Every ripple of his muscles seemed to catch the light, and his slightly damp hair clung to his forehead.
Gina froze as her face instantly turned beet red.
“…K-, Kyaaaaaa~ ♡!”
She shrieked and stumbled back a step.
Her clipboard clattered to the floor as she slapped both hands over her mouth.
Scott stopped mid-push-up and looked up, confused.
Rising to his feet, he wiped his forehead with a towel and turned to face her.
“Are you okay?”
His voice was oddly deeper than before.
Gina’s eyes widened further, and she took another step back then shook her head furiously.
“I-, I-, I’m fine! I’ll come back later!”
Before Scott could say another word, she spun on her heel and bolted out of the room, nearly tripping over her own feet in the process.
Scott blinked, watching the door swing shut behind her.
“What’s with her?” he muttered to himself.
The System’s familiar voice chimed in.
[Host’s recent physical enhancements, combined with the Charm stat increase, are having the expected effect. The resident displayed signs of attraction and flustered interest.]
Scott raised an eyebrow and wiped his neck with the towel.
“Charm stat, huh? Didn’t think it’d make people scream.”
[Correction: It is not just the Charm stat. The host’s improved physique, sweat-drenched appearance, and natural charisma have likely heightened her reaction. It is probable that the women you encounter may find themselves increasingly drawn to you.]
Scott groaned and tossing the towel onto a chair.
“Great. That’s just what I need—people swooning when I’m trying to recover.”
The System paused before delivering its next statement.
[Host should prepare for more such encounters. Many individuals of the opposite gender may now wish to… bend over at the sight of the host’s overnight glow-up.]
Scott rubbed the bridge of his nose, trying so hard to fight back a smirk.
“System, you’ve got a strange sense of humor.”

Meanwhile…
Emma was on her way back to the hospital.
She had a very plain and oddly calm face.
“Hmm, for some reason I wanna kill someone…”
Those words casually left her mouth.
