Chapter 62: Decisions
It was early morning.
Scott stood by the front door with his hands buried in the pockets of his gray sweatpants.
His eyes were locked on Emma, who was standing in front of him with her big suitcase in hand.
She wore a fashionable black jumpsuit that fit her perfectly and brought out her attractive curves. Her brown hair was pulled back into a neat ponytail, and her lips curved into a soft smile as she gently cupped his cheek with her hand.
Scott sighed.
“You’ve gotta admit, you enjoyed the last two weeks as much as I did. Don’t tell me you’re really gonna go back to Metro City now.”
Emma tilted her head and her smile widened as if she found his reluctance endearing.
“Scott…”
She sighed but kept her tone patient.
“We talked about this last night.”
“I know, I know…” he muttered and looked away.
Her thumb gently brushed his cheek as she continued.
“I’m stationed in Metro City, remember? If I don’t get active there, I’m violating both my contracts with MegaCorp and the Hero Agency. And I really can’t let that happen. Not unless I want lawsuits and a PR nightmare on my hands.”
Scott tilted his head slightly.
“Okay, fine. I get it… kinda.”
Emma chuckled softly, then gave his cheek a reassuring pat before stepping back.
“Don’t worry. When my company really takes off, I’m planning to terminate my contract with MegaCorp anyway. Then I’ll be a self-sponsored hero, and I can get the Hero Agency to station me wherever I want.”
She winked.
“Alright?”
“Alright.” Scott shrugged.
Emma folded her arms and gave him a playful, flirty look.
“Besides, you’re acting like I’m not gonna miss you too. Don’t forget who’s obsessed with who here, hm~?”
Scott smirked and closed the distance between them.
He placed one hand gently on her cheek and the other around her waist as he pulled her close.
“Just… be careful out there, okay? If your agent or anyone at MegaCorp starts giving you problems, you let me know immediately. Alright?”
Emma’s eyes softened as she looked up at him.
“Alright.”
“Good.”
With one last smile, she grabbed her suitcase and pulled the door open. Stepping outside, she headed to her car while Scott stayed in the doorway, watching as she got in, started the engine, and drove away.
Just as Scott was about to let out another sigh, his phone buzzed with a notification.
Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".
He picked it up and unlocked the screen.
[Gun Nut : Got a lead on the missing kids case. Meet me at the Hollowpoint Slums, Bleakridge Avenue, 8:00 p.m. tonight. Don’t forget the stealth-tech, but maybe leave the tight suit at home this time? 😉 You know, the one that accidentally shows off all your… junk. Not that I’m complaining, of course. 😏 See you there, hero.]
After reading the message, he rolled his eyes and let out a deep sigh.
“I should go see Commissioner Lisbon…”

Meanwhile…
A sleek black Rolls-Royce sped down the Belt Bridge, which connected Asteroid City to its chaotic neighbor, Meteor City.
The bridge stretched over a huge chasm.
It was a scar left from a legendary battle years ago between a Golden Age hero and interdimensional invaders.
The spatial anomaly caused by the battle never fully healed, and now the gap stood as a permanent reminder of the divide between Asteroid City’s orderly heroism and Meteor City’s lawless chaos.
Seated in the back of the luxury car was Lady Adira Crowe.
She was stunning woman with raven-black hair and sharp, piercing eyes.
Her beauty was almost unreal, the kind that made people stop and stare, though her cold, distant presence made it clear they should keep their distance.
She wore a fitted black mantle and leather gloves that gave her a presence of power and grace.
Her body was a topic all on its own.
With her huge breasts, curvy hips, and tall body, she had a figure that would make anyone take notice.
Even women would fall for her!
Her driver couldn’t help but sneak glances at her through the rearview mirror.
Each time, his eyes lingered a little too long.
Adira noticed, of course.
“You’re a naughty driver, aren’t you~”
With a subtle press of a button, a black partition slid up and blocked his view. She smirked faintly, bringing her phone to her ear as she answered an incoming call.
“Ceral…”
She had a crisp British accent.
“Stop whining like a little bitch. I’ve got this under control.”
On the other end of the line, Ceral’s voice crackled.
“This isn’t about control, Adira! It’s about precision. You need to acquire that child specifically. There’s no one else with psychic powers as strong as hers. She could be the key to unlocking latent force-gene potential in others.”
Adira rolled her eyes and pulled a small photograph from inside her mantle.
It was a picture of a young girl, Brigid MacLeighlin.
Adira studied the photo and her black-painted lips curved into a mesmerizingly sexy smile.
“Let’s not get ahead of ourselves…”
Her words came out smoothly.
“We still have to see if the girl can properly use her powers. Last time we met, she couldn’t even breach my mind-shielding implants. What she saw was only what I allowed her to see.”
Ceral’s tone turned defensive.
“That’s how it’s supposed to be! She’s barely been told the extent of her abilities.”
Adira sighed and brushed a strand of hair from her face.
“Whatever. Besides this, I’ve got my husband’s mayoral campaign to deal with.”
Ceral snorted. “Husband? Thought you were divorced.”
Adira’s smile turned razor-sharp.
“Obviously. But the fools in Meteor City don’t know that. Keeping up the charade is worth my time—he’s promised me something valuable in return.”
Ceral cleared his throat awkwardly.
“So, uh… you’re single, then?”
The line went dead.
Adira pressed the button again and lowered the partition.
She leaned forward slightly.
“Would you be a good boy and go a little faster~?”
She ordered with a small smile.
“I want to be at Skyfort Academy before lunch.”
The driver stiffened and swallowed his saliva.
“Y-, Yes, ma’am!”
The Rolls-Royce sped on and left behind the peaceful sunrise as it approached the bright skyline of Asteroid City.
…
Finally, they arrived.
Skyfort Academy.
The Rolls-Royce parked in its massive compound.
The driver’s hands trembled as he quickly got out of the car and rushed to open the back door.
『I feel like I’m betraying my wife and kids… but I can’t stop myself! I have to beg her for it… just this once.』
His heart pounded in his chest.
When he finally opened the door, he held his breath.
Lady Adira Crowe stepped out.
She looked like a picture of grace as her black mantle moved with the wind.
The morning sun made her raven hair shine, and her illogically gorgeous body was now exposed to daylight.
Her sharp eyes scanned the area.
『If only Meteor City were like this…』
Her captivating blue eyes shifted to her driver.
The man swallowed nervously and bowed deeply as his forehead nearly touched the ground.
“La-, Lady Adira!”
He stammered with a cracking voice.
Adira tilted her head and her eyes narrowed just a little as she lifted her delicate eyebrow.
“… Hm?”
The driver’s face flushed red.
He trembled as he lowered his head even further, and through gritted teeth, he mumbled.
“Before you go up, could you… please… just… one your sweet pats on the head?”
The driver felt deeply ashamed.
『What the fuck am I doing…』
He was a grown man with a wife and three kids, yet here he was, practically begging a woman for a pat on the head, like he was some kind of dog.
There was a small silence.
Then, a soft chuckle escaped her lips.
It sounded so smooth, yet dangerous.
“Huu-huu~ you’re bold, aren’t you?”
His body stiffened and his heart pounded even harder.
Was she going to refuse him?
Before he could brace himself, Adira gently reached out and placed her gloved hand on his head.
Once.
Twice.
Three times.
Each pat was gentle, but it hit him like a strong shockwave. His legs felt like jelly. It wasn’t the touch itself—it was something much deeper. Her elegance, her height, her power, the way she carried herself made his body give in. He collapsed, his knees giving way, and dropped to all fours with a weak grunt.
Adira’s expression remained calm.
“There. Was that so difficult?”
She made a mental note to change her gloves later, not wanting to keep his germs on them for too long. But in the end… it was always nice to reward good dogs so they stayed obedient.
She turned on her heels and walked forward toward the gates of Skyfort Academy.
Behind her, the driver, now trembling, remained on all fours, too stunned to move.
The academy loomed before them like an ancient fortress, with its tall spires that reached into the sky, partially hidden by a wooded hill. The campus seemed to rise above everything else in Asteroid City, both in height and importance!
At the entrance, the moment security spotted Adira, they straightened immediately and rushed forward to attend to her.
“Lady Crowe…”
One of them greeted her respectfully and extended his hand to take her handbag.
Another moved to take the triple-frilled black umbrella from her side, opened it in one swift motion, and held it well above her head.
『Wow… she’s so tall…』
The man thought.
Adira’s lips curled into a satisfied smile.
“Oh my, so many good boys here in Asteroid City. In Meteor City, all I have are disgusting little boys who can’t seem to behave themselves.”
The security guards blushed like women and quickly escorted her into the building.
…
Inside, Brigid MacLeighlin sat at the far-right corner of Class 3-A and stared out of the window.
『I’m tired of this…』
Nightwatch hadn’t replied to her messages again.
Not a single word.
She kept wondering if maybe, just maybe, he was doing the thing where he saw her messages and just… ignored them.
Was she being too forward? She’d even sent him about twelve of her pictures.
Her face heated up as the thought crossed her mind… she wasn’t exactly a model or anything. Sure, she wasn’t ugly, but she wasn’t the kind of girl who would make anyone stop in their tracks.
Still, she’d hoped. Just a little. Maybe he’d feel something, even a flicker of interest. Maybe that would make the distance between them seem a little smaller.
『But no. Nothing. Not even a “Hey, Brigid!” or a simple, “Thanks for the cute pics!” Sigh~ I’m tired…』
Her cheeks turned a deeper shade of red as another thought sneaked its way into her mind.
『Or maybe…』
She pressed her palms to her cheeks and bit back a squeak as the heat rose even more.
She probably looked like a tomato right now.
『… he thinks I’m a minor…』
Just as she was lost in her thoughts, she felt the eyes of her classmates on her.
The teacher, Mr. Michaels, was staring right at her.
“Class Rep, seems like you’re not listening. What was the last thing I said?”
Brigid blinked as she snapped back to reality. “Eh?”
Mr. Michaels raised an eyebrow, looking displeased.
“I’ll ask again, Class Rep. What was the last thing I said?”
Brigid’s eyes bounced around the room like a lost pup.
『Tch, I’ll just read his mind…』
Her lips quirked into a smile.
“Oh, uh… Terms and Conditions of the Hero Agency.”
Mr. Michaels sighed and shook his head.
“Of course, you read the first nonsense I thought up in my mind, didn’t you? That’s last semester’s work. I was actually discussing tech companies and sponsorships for this semester.”
Brigid felt embarrassed and she quickly covered her face with her hands.
“Sorry, Mr. Michaels…”
“Third years now, class…”
Mr. Michaels returned to the lesson.
“Soon you’ll be going on your rookie training. Those internships with the companies will shape your futures as superheroes.”
Before he could say more, there was a knock at the door.
The security guard at the door stepped in.
“Lady Crowe is here to see Brigid MacLeighlin. She’s requested her presence in the principal’s office.”
A murmur spread through the class like wildfire.
“L-, Like THE Adira Crowd──?!”
“Crowe Enterprises wants to sponsor her?”
“Tch, fuck Brigid, I hate her so much. She’s always acting so humble it pisses me off!”
“First, she’s recommended by Silver Sentinel out of nowhere and next she becomes top student! And now there’s this garbage of Crowe Enterprises wanting her!”
“Yeah, they barely sign anyone. But they’re desperate for her and she hasn’t even responded to them!”
“Fuck that bitch!”
Brigid’s hands trembled as she stared down.
All she wanted to look at now was her desk.
『They’re murmuring quietly, thinking I won’t hear them… it’s almost as if they forgot I could read minds. I know how their hearts feel, and they don’t like me one bit…』
Her fists tightened around the edge of her desk, and she squeezed her eyes shut.
“I’ll go now!”
She suddenly blurted out and stood up so abruptly her chair toppled over.
She didn’t even glance at Mr. Michaels.
… BAM!
And she was out of the class.
—
… BAM!
Brigid pushed the doors open.
She was burning with anger and frustration.
“I haven’t thought this through, okay? If Crowe Enterprises can’t accept that, then they can just drop it! I’m not that special, anyway──!”
Her words halted mid-sentence.
There, relaxed on a three-seater sofa, was none other than Lady Adira Crowe, casually swirling a glass of wine like she was royalty.
“You’re much louder than before…”
She took an elegant sip of her drink.
Brigid’s face drained of color.
『I FUCKED UP!』
Her mouth opened and closed like a fish out of water and her hands flew to cover her face in a desperate attempt to stop her flustered mouse squeak from escaping.
The principal, who’d been standing behind his desk in shock, exploded with a beet red face.
“Brigid! What are you doing?! Do you have no respect for this office?! How dare you shout like that without even knowing where you are?!”
Brigid froze up even more.
The principal stormed toward her with furious eyes.
“I know you as a quiet, obedient student, Brigid! You’ve never been one to shout—what has gotten into you today?!”
Now trembling, Brigid quickly looked down at the floor, wishing the earth would swallow her hole. She stood there like a child being scolded for a moment until Lady Adira’s soft, melodic voice melted away the silence.
“It’s fine, Brigid.”
She looked very unbothered as she placed her glass down with a gentle clink.
“If you don’t want to come, that’s perfectly alright. We were never forcing you to join us.”
She leaned back slightly as her long tongue licked the roof of her pearly white teeth.
“Besides, I’m not sure you’d enjoy Meteor City anyway.”
Meteor City.
The words hit Brigid like a thunderbolt.
『NIGHTWATCH──!!』
Without thinking, she rushed to Lady Adira’s side as if she was a child who missed their mother.
“Where do I sign?!”
“Oh…?”
Adira acted mildly surprised as she raised her glass to her black-painted lips.
『Is she really that clueless? No, “clueless” isn’t the right word. She just has her weaknesses. The last time I came here, I added my number to her phone and secretly planted a bug in it to keep an eye on her. Turns out, she’s completely obsessed with Nightwatch. She even writes all these perverted fanfics about him. I don’t get why she’s so fixated on him… Nightwatch is the biggest troublemaker in Meteor City, fufu~ ♡ I wouldn’t mind making him my pet someday.』
She finally sipped some wine.
“Good girl…”
