Chapter 96: End of a Catastrophe
South District, Metro City…
The blue streak illuminated the night sky, cutting through the dense smoke and chaos like a blade of divine judgment.
The entire city seemed to hold its breath.
Soldiers, civilians, and pilots alike froze, eyes glued to the glowing trail that pierced through the heavens.
In the command post, General Stone lowered his binoculars as his usually gruff demeanor was now replaced with something akin to awe.
“What… in God’s name…” he whispered.
The fighter pilots, circling cautiously at a safe distance, were the first to catch a closer view.
“Holy crap, do you guys see this?”
One of them blurted over the comms.
“It’s… it’s a man! He’s just hovering there!”
“MENACINGLY!!”
“What the hell is he holding?”
As the smoke cleared, the figure became clearer.
Suspended mid-air was a man clad in a sleek, high-tech exoskeleton of pristine white with glowing blue LED accents that pulsed rhythmically, like a heartbeat.
His helmet was smooth and futuristic, with a blue visor that seemed to scan everything around him. Blue, fiery horn-like projections arched from his head, giving him an almost mythical presence.
Behind him, a flowing white cape shimmered with a fiery blue underside that added to his mighty presence.
Cradled delicately in his left arm was a small, unconscious woman—naked, her body limp but unharmed. The juxtaposition was striking: the towering, armored figure of justice and the fragile, exposed life he protected.
The livestream chat erupted like never before.
[BROOOO WHO IS THAT?!]
└ [It’s gotta be Fortitude. No one else could pull off something this badass.]
└ [Nah, you blind? That’s Knightwatch. Look at the horns. Classic him!]
└ [Fortitude fans stay delusional. Y’all think he’s everywhere but can’t prove shit.]
└ [I’m searching online. Someone’s gotta have a clear pic of Fortitude.]
[Are we seriously not gonna talk about the naked chick he’s holding?!]
└ [For real! What’s her deal?!]
└ [Bet she’s like some secret weapon or something. Plot thickens!]
[Her three sizes gotta be: Tiny, tinier, tiniest.]
└ [Gooner alert 🚨]

・・・
General Stone’s binoculars snapped back up.
His voice crackled over the comms.
“Someone get me a visual feed on that figure now! Who the hell is he?!”
—
Inside the high-tech suit, Scott felt the rush of energy coursing through him as the Anti-Disaster Suit synced with his movements.
A soothing, monotone voice echoed in his HUD.
[System Online. Anti-Disaster Suit Activated. Integration of blue technophage element complete. Resistance to red technophage absorption confirmed.]
Scott allowed himself a smirk.
“Now that’s what I wanted to hear.”
Before he could savor the moment, Red Titan roared.
… ROOOOOOOARRR!!
A deafening sound rattled the air.
Its mutated limbs expanded, bristling with newly-formed cannons. The monstrosity’s glowing eye zeroed in on Scott, as if sensing its nemesis.
Then it happened.
From every cannon, a torrent of missiles erupted in chaotic streaks, zigzagging like hungry serpents.
… pew! pew! peeeew────BZZZZHHHH!!
They didn’t just target Scott—they spread outward, aiming for fleeing civilians, distant evacuation zones, and even the retreating jets.
The was curtained in deadly streaks of light.
“COMMANDER! The missiles are tracking us!”
“What do we do?!”
“Tch──damn it!”
Panicked pilots screamed into his comms.
General Stone’s voice barked over the channel.
“Quickly, mo──!”
Scott cut in with a calm and commanding voice.
“I’ve got this.”
He extended his free hand.
“System, deploy Anti-Disaster Shields. Full radius.”
The system responded instantly.
Electric blue shields materialized across the city to encase jets, buildings, and crowds in protective spheres.
… krakleee────BOOOOOOOOM!!
The missiles slammed into the shields with earth-shaking force. Explosions rippled across the barriers and their destructive energy dissipated harmlessly.
Not a single target was harmed.
Inside his jet, a pilot’s voice cracked with disbelief.
“We’re safe… WE’RE SAFE!”
Another shouted, “HELL YEAH, BABY!”
On the ground, civilians broke into cheers.
Parents hugged their children.
Soldiers pounded their fists in victory.
The livestream chat went wild.
[HE DID IT! HE STOPPED THE MISSILES!]
└ [Yo, Knightwatch COOKING out here!]
[Rename him White Knight. Ladies gonna eat that up.]
└ [Nah, I kinda miss the black armor. It had that scary edge, you know?]
└ [Too scary for a hero. This is way better.]
[I just know Bella Trevors and Sofia Hernandez are gonna let him crack their asses with that strong ahh vigilante dih when he’s done here 😭🙏 they gotta do it on Instaflick LIVE, i’mma goon so hard to that shit! 💪🔥]
└ [Bro, where do they get these guys? 💀]
└ [Dang, y’all never met Sleazy before?]
└ [Ohhhh, it’s him 😐…]
[$15,000 DONATION INCOMING! This guy deserves it all.]
└ [Fortitude stans, stay mad. Our guy saved the day!]
└ [No, I’m doubling down: IT’S STILL FORTITUDE!]
└ [Cope with this ratio. 🙏]
・・・
Hovering mid-air, Scott glanced at his HUD to scan the current condition of the East District.
『Phew~ they’re all safe…』
The woman in his arm was still unconscious.
Her breathing was steady.
“Stay with me…” he muttered softly.
Red Titan bellowed again, furious at its failure.
Its massive limbs began reshaping, merging into a grotesque, city-sized weapon.
Scott’s smirk returned.
“Alright, big guy. Let’s see what you’ve got.”
Just then, Lady Fortress’ body stirred slightly as her lips parted when she let out a soft groan.
“Mmm… what’s… going on?”
She murmured in her faint and disoriented voice.
Scott glanced down and the faintest smirk pulled at his lips beneath the helmet.
“Good morning, sleepyhead.”
Her immaculate, blue eyes fluttered open, still hazy, but as they focused on the figure holding her, realization struck like a bolt of lightning.
“W-, WHAT?!”
Lady Fortress jolted upright and her sudden movement caused her to slip slightly in his grip.
Her cheeks flared bright red as she stammered.
“Wh-, What are you doing holding me like this?!”
Scott tilted his head, his tone casual and unbothered.
“You were out cold. What was I supposed to do? Leave you on the ground to get stepped on?”
She froze, her gaze dropping to her exposed body. Her eyes widened in sheer horror, and with a sharp gasp, she slapped both hands over her small chest. Her expression turned from embarrassment to anger in a flash as she glared up at him.
“Is this some kind of sick joke?!” she demanded.
Scott chuckled with a desert-dry voice.
“The only sick joke here is that I didn’t grope you while you were unconscious.”
“WH-, WHAT──?!”
Her face turned an even deeper shade of red.
He shrugged as his lens scanned her briefly.
“Not that there’s much to grope…”
“WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY?!”
She shrieked like a mouse.
This was Scott’s first time seeing Lady Fortress in person, and what made it even stranger was how vulnerable she looked.
On TV, she was always tough, stern, and unshakable, like nothing could faze her.
But now, standing here, it felt like a whole different side of her was on display—a side she probably didn’t want anyone to see. Maybe it was because she wasn’t wearing her usual armor, both literally and figuratively.
If only there was time to figure out what that meant.

[Bro did he just say that?! 💀]
└ [Man SAVED her life and still found time to roast her.]
└ [Knightwatch is the GOAT. No debate.]
└ [“GOAT” because he body-shamed a lady? 👌]
└ [Sure thing, body shame deez nuts. 😭🙏]
[FLAT JUSTICE. STAND UP, QUEEN.]
└ [More like sit down… there’s nothing to stand up for.]
└ [You going to jail, bro.]
[I’m just saying, not having banging breasts and a massive ass doesn’t make you kid-sized.]
└ [Yeah, but let’s be real. She could definitely cosplay as an ironing board.]
└ [Nah, Lady Fortress fans in SHAMBLES right now.]
[You’ve received $5,000 from @Leoranthos – LMAO Y’ALL NEED TO CHILL!]
・・・
Before Lady Fortress could fire back, another thunderous roar erupted from the distance.
… ROOOOOAR────DOOOOOOOM!!
The sheer force of it shook the air.
It sent fighter jets spiraling as the Red Titan began to mutate once again.
ROOOOOAR!!
Its hulking form expanded as it disgustingly fused with the ground beneath it.
Massive tendrils of steel and flesh anchored it to the earth to root it deeper into the city.
Scott’s visor scanned the creature’s transformation.
The System chimed in his ear.
[Warning: Red Titan is attempting full integration with the urban core. Immediate action is required.]
Scott tightened his grip on Lady Fortress and nodded.
“We’ll finish this discussion about your naked behavior later. I’ve got work to do.”
She hugged her arms around her torso, still flustered.
“I don’t have a ‘naked behavior,’ you jerk!”
Ignoring her protests, Scott rocketed toward the Red Titan at blinding speed as his fist slammed into the monster’s head with a deafening impact.
… GBIIIIIMMMMM!!
The massive force of the blow sent shockwaves rippling through the air.
“NO!”
Lady Fortress shouted.
“You can’t! It’ll absorb you!”
Scott’s voice was calm but firm.
“Not a chance. My technophage cells are way stronger… and way smarter.”
He was more than certain.
Livestream Chat:
[HE’S GONNA PULL ANOTHER MIRACLE. I CAN FEEL IT.]
└ [Bro, he literally punched it. No plan, just vibes.]
└ [Respectfully, vibes are all he needs.]
[Wait, what’s he doing now?]
└ [Is he… is he trying to LIFT IT?]
[No way. That thing’s fused to the city!]
└ [You’ve received $10,000 from @Danie123 – KNIGHTWATCH BUILT DIFFERENT.]
・・・
Scott planted his feet firmly in the air as his energy amplifiers glowed brighter the more he dug into the Red Titan’s skull.
Slowly but surely, the creature began to rise, its massive limbs dragging chunks of the city with it.
… growl────ROOOOOAR!!
Buildings crumbled, streets cracked, and an entire district collapsed into a massive canyon as Scott pulled with everything he had.
Lady Fortress watched in stunned silence.
“You’re… trying to lift the whole city…”
Scott grunted and his voice strained.
“I’ve… got all the power I need.”
The Red Titan roared while its body morphed again.
Dozens of cannons sprouted across its frame, glowing with deadly energy.
They aimed directly at Scott and the entire city!
“Look out!” Lady Fortress screamed.
But Scott didn’t flinch.
With one final, earth-shattering roar of his own, he ripped the Red Titan free from the ground.
The East District was no more… just a gaping abyss remained where the city once stood—but Scott had the monster in his grasp.
Livestream Chat:
[HE DID IT. HE FREAKING DID IT.]
└ [Bro just RIPPED A CITY OUT OF THE GROUND.]
└ [Not really, he ripped a monster amplified by the weight of a city. Two different things. 🤷♂️]

[That naked chick is definitely falling for him now.]
└ [As she should.]
[You’ve received $15,000 from @The_Last_Legion – GIVE THIS MAN A STATUE.]
・・・
Carrying the massive creature with one hand and Lady Fortress in the other, Scott rocketed toward the sky, breaking through the atmosphere like a comet.
The Red Titan flailed wildly, but Scott’s grip was undying.
Spinning rapidly, he hurled the creature toward the sun as the fiery orb swallowed it whole. The world watched in shock as the threat was eliminated for good.
Scorched beyond remains!
As Scott descended back to Earth, Lady Fortress muttered under her breath, still clutching herself tightly.
“I hate you…”
Scott chuckled. “You’re welcome.”
Livestream Chat:
[KNIGHTWATCH SUPREMACY.]

[Flat Fortress and Knightwatch OTP confirmed.]
└ [Bro, stop. 💀]
[WHAT A GODDAMN SHOW. GIVE THIS MAN THE KEYS TO THE CITY.]
・・・
Scott descended with Lady Fortress in his arms.
The aftermath of the Red Titan’s destruction beneath them was the hardest thing to miss.
His cape billowed in the wind.
When they reached the ground, he slowed to ensure a gentle landing. His boots touched down with a soft crunch against the ruined street, and without hesitation, he swung his cape around her shoulders.
Lady Fortress flinched slightly at the motion, but as the fabric settled over her, a strange warmth followed.
It wasn’t just from the cape—it was from him.
Her fingers gripped the material tightly, pulling it closer as if it could shield her from the world’s stare.
“You’re safe now…”
That was all Scott said.
Her breath hitched for a moment.
There was a strange sincerity in his tone, one she wasn’t expecting. She tightened her grip on the cape like a blanket, and for the first time, she allowed herself to feel small, vulnerable, and… strangely comforted.
The North District was in also shambles, yet some people still lingered. Civilians, soldiers, and even children were scattered across the streets. Their faces were pale, their bodies bruised, and their eyes wide with confusion and fear. They were supposed to have evacuated, but the Red Titan’s earlier rampage had likely trapped them here.
And now, they all stood frozen, staring at the figure in white armor and the woman draped in his cape.
Lady Fortress swallowed hard as she looked at the silent crowd.
They didn’t know what to say. How could they? These people had just survived the impossible.
Her chest tightened as their wide-eyed stares settled on Scott, who stood like a beacon amidst the wreckage.
She stepped out of his arms before she could think twice.
Her bare feet pressed against the broken pavement.
Adjusting the cape tighter around herself, she moved forward, each step feeling heavier than the last. Her eyes swept across the crowd, taking in their shock and confusion.
“EVERYONE…”
Although she was small, her voice wasn’t.
“The man… this hero… is the reason you’re all alive right now. He saved you. He saved all of us.”
The crowd stirred.
Murmurs rippled like waves through the sea of onlookers.
“Rather than staring in shock… thank him. He didn’t have to risk his life for you, but he did. He’s the one who ended this catastrophe before it could claim more lives.”
A man near the front, his arm in a sling, tilted his head.
“Is it true? Did he really save us?”
Another nodded.
“Yeah, I think it’s him… That blue light we saw earlier? That was him, wasn’t it?”
A woman clutched her child tightly.
“It has to be. No one else could’ve done that.”
More murmurs followed, growing louder with each second.
“It’s him! He’s the guy who saved us!”
“Isn’t his name… Knightwatch or something? I’ve heard about him on The Konrad Kain Show, but… they always said he’s a terrorist or something.”
“Terrorist? No way. He’s no menace to society! He’s such an angel.”
This time, it was a grandma who spoke.
Applause began hesitantly but quickly grew.
The soldiers who had been standing guard straightened, their faces softening with respect.
One by one, they saluted.
Even those seated in vehicles stepped out, joining in as the clapping intensified.
“THANK YOU!”
“You saved my son, Micah!”
“You saved my whole family when you stopped that thing from crashing into our car!”
“You’re the best!”
Scott shifted uncomfortably as the sudden gratitude pressed against his chest like an unfamiliar burden.
Behind his helmet, he allowed a smile to touch his lips.
It was faint… but a smile nonetheless.
『I’m not the kind of justice that needs a thank you… just the kind that gives hope.』
He looked up, the bright blue sky calling him.
Without another word, he crouched slightly, and with a burst of energy, he launched into the air.
… FEEEWWWWWWW!!
His body streaked upward like a comet as the brilliant blue of his armor left a trail behind.
“Wait──!!”
Lady Fortress called, clutching the cape tighter around her.
“MAEL!”
Her voice echoed, but he was already gone.
She tried to summon the strength to follow, but her cells were drained and her body too weak to defy gravity. She could only stand there, her head tilted back, her heart pounding as she watched him disappear.
A soft smile spread across her lips despite herself.
“You idiot…” she whispered. “Such an idiot.”

Meanwhile…
At the Hero Agency headquarters in the far west of Metro City, a different scene was unfolding.
The room was cold and dark.
Seated behind a wide desk was Lymtos Kazamir Panemorfi, the Chairman of the Hero Agency.
His slicked-back, wavy white hair and neatly trimmed beard gave him a sharp, authoritative look, while the eye patch over his right eye added an extra layer of character to his already unsettling appearance.
His single, piercing eye narrowed as he watched the replay of Scott’s battle against the Red Titan.
Every punch, kick, blast… everything.
“Just as I said…”
He assembled a hyper-advanced Rubik’s cube with more than just casual ease.
“This ‘Nightwatch’ or ‘Black Knight’—whatever they’re calling him—is a threat I don’t want in this country. Hell, I don’t want him in this world.”
To his right, Rope Girl lounged on a sofa, her legs crossed as she methodically assembled a sleek, silver gun.
Beside her, Deathmark stood stiffly.
It was rare to see someone as cheerful as her looking so stressed and quiet… but it wasn’t unusual at all for anyone to stand so nervously in the old man’s presence.
Rope Girl glanced up with a bored expression.
“So, what’s the plan, old man? You want me to take him out or what?”
Lymtos completed the Rubik’s cube and yawned.
“Simple. Kill him or make him kneel. I want him serving under the Hero Agency like everyone else. Is that clear enough? My precious hero?”
Rope Girl spun the gun in her hand.
“Crystal. I’ll assemble my team.”
Lymtos leaned back and chuckled.
“Perfect. We may have lost a few lives today, but at least the public knows just how much danger they’re in when we’re not involved. More importantly…”
He gestured to the screen.
“I wanted to see just how much of a threat this ‘Nightwatch’ really is.”
Calmly siding the gun into the holster on her thigh, Rope Girl stood up.
She paused to look back at him with those usual dead eyes of hers.
“I’m only doing this because I owe you a favor. Otherwise, I’d be enjoying my vacation.”
Lymtos chuckled softly. “Whatever soaks your pad.”
“Son of a bitch.” Rope Girl clicked her tongue.
As she walked out, Deathmark followed her like a scared, little mouse.
The Chairman leaned back in his chair.
“This should be fun…”
