Chapter 224: 911!
Priscilla had her suspicions about Kyle and didn’t know where he spawned from but she knew he had an ulterior motive for trying his hardest to get into their good graces.

This wasn’t normal but her partner Oliver thought otherwise.

Kyle was showing his gratitude to the police force, this wasn’t the first time they would receive such a gesture.

Priscilla already knew that Oliver saw things a lot more differently than she did but he also served as her anchor.

“You overthink,” Oliver told Priscilla.

“I don’t think that’s the case but there is something strange about him,” Priscilla said.

She was sitting right in front of him and, as usual, Oliver was stuffing his face with food.

“Maybe you like him?” Oliver tried to goad her but she didn’t give him a reaction.

“Oliver, are you not too old for such jokes?” Priscilla responded without her facial expression changing for even a second.

“You’re so uptight,” Oliver responded before taking a bite out of his doughnut.

“He just needed your help and didn’t act like you had nothing to gain from this,” Oliver pointed out, his voice changing to show his seriousness.

“You aren’t wrong,” Priscilla admitted because she was self-aware, she didn’t fool herself with delusions.

“But if you feel something is wrong, I guess it is worth looking into,” Oliver pointed out.

All jokes aside, there was no reason for Oliver to dismiss her completely because he was aware that Priscilla had an eye for such things.

Oliver was going to look into it but he was also surprised that Priscilla could work with anyone.

She was a pain in the ass that took her job far too seriously, this was the only thing she had going in her life.

“We should probably hit the road,” Oliver spoke but realized he was the only one still eating.

Priscilla was done with her salad a long time ago but Oliver appreciated the fact that she didn’t try to hurry him up.

They rounded up and left the place, hopping into their new car but soon after, Priscilla’s phone rang.

This was happening a lot more frequently ever since Kyle came into her life, she had no friends so she wasn’t expecting any calls.

She already knew who it was without her even looking at the phone.

“Your boyfriend is calling,” Oliver teased but once again, Priscilla didn’t react to this tease.

She remained stoic but she wasn’t going to leave Kyle hanging because it could be related to the case they were working on.

Fortunately for her, it was Oliver on the wheels, he was their designated driver.

Priscilla put it on loudspeaker because she wanted Oliver to be aware of the situation.

He was her partner and thus, there was no point in hiding anything from him.

[[Priscilla! I need an ambulance right now! I have no idea if it is possible but I will cover whatever fees they will require!]] Kyle was freaking out.

Oliver looked concerned but Priscilla looked indifferent more or less.

“Where are you?” Priscilla remained calm because Kyle was stressed by the situation.

Kyle proceeded to give her the location but what the hell was he doing here?

This place was not only renowned for its high crime rate but Priscilla wasn’t the only one that shared this look.

Oliver was visibly surprised as well, looking right at Priscilla.

They knew that no ambulance would come there because the ambulances themselves would be put in danger.

It would be stripped and sold for parts, and the medicine and equipment within would be abused as well.

“We are going, aren’t we?” Oliver asked the moment the call came to an end.

“We need to call it in,” Priscilla said, tucking her phone away.

Oliver expected her to be more concerned because Kyle did mention a child in all of this.

The fact that she was technically closer to Kyle than he was, he hoped that would have softened her up.

“There is a child involved!” Oliver barked but all Priscilla did was sigh.

“Children die every day, Oliver. Do you try to save everyone?” Priscilla asked in a dismissive tone.

Oliver forgot who he was talking to, Priscilla was all logical and used little emotions when making these decisions but that was why she was such a great cop.

She knew when to make the right calls and Oliver knew empathy could be considered a weakness in some cases.

There is a reason rules exist, it is to combat decisions that would otherwise be made based on empathy.

“There is nothing we can do. If we go in alone and get ambushed, what happens then? Are you so eager to make your wife a widow?” Priscilla asked and once again, she made a good point.

“You know what? I refuse,” Oliver responded and fortunately for him, he knew where Kyle was.

He was the one driving as well so he had control over the decision he was about to make.

Oliver steered the car in the opposite direction before flicking on his siren.

“What are you doing?” Priscilla asked in an indifferent tone.

“The reason I became a police officer… I’m going to save a life,” Oliver responded but Priscilla didn’t oppose this.

All she did was redirect her eyes on the road without saying a word because Oliver wasn’t her underling but her partner.

He had every right to make a decision she opposed but she would still have his back as he has had hers since they became partners.

“Fine,” Priscilla responded before taking out her phone to inform Kyle that they were on their way even though he asked for an ambulance.

The injuries the man suffered were a few broken bones and fractures but was the beating severe enough to cause brain damage?

That was to be seen but Kyle had done all he could in this situation and had to leave it up to the professionals even though he now understood he had to brush up on his medical knowledge.

It would be a lot easier to do with Total Recall.
