Chapter 107: The Impromptu Gamble
At the same time, in one of the rooms of the luxury hotel…
Leon sat in a rattan chair on the balcony, one leg over the other. He crossed his arms, supporting the back of his head as he stared far off into the distance at the sky above.
White puffy clouds drifted in the blue sky, showing no traces of the rain yesterday and the day before. The soothing melody of the rolling waves harmonized with the laughter coming from the beach.
Leon’s body language was casual. He didn’t look as if he was caught in the humiliating scandal involving Matthias and Stephanie’s ruined wedding.
The breeze swayed Leon’s sandy blond strands. The bruises on his face, courtesy of Alaric’s enraged punches, had gradually faded. The colors changed to light blue while the bumps reduced in size.
“It’s so quiet today,” murmured Leon as his eyes traced the clouds above. His voice had a hint of chuckles, imbued with mockery.
Quiet?
It was actually far from the opposite.
Alaric came looking for Leon last night.
Alaric’s whole appearance was messy, a stark contrast to how pristine he usually presented himself to the public. His bloodshot eyes seemed to blaze with scorching flames.
Despite knowing that Alaric would go off him, Leon still let him inside the hotel room. The former exploded as soon as he was inside.
The Elsher family’s secondborn demanded he clear all the rumors about him having an illicit affair with Stephanie.
“I’ve treated you like my own brother! How could you ruin my sister like that?”
“Tell everyone you’ve blackmailed her! You forced her to do whatever you wanted!”
“You fabricated all those videos and photos, right? Tell everyone the truth!”
Alaric’s explosive rage convinced Leon that the former had seen the files he sent to Declan the other day. He believed the images and videos were more damning that the ones Matthias uploaded to the wedding website.
“Phanie is a grown lady. I don’t need to blackmail her, you know?”
“The first time can be said as a mistake but, what about the following ones?”
“Phanie enjoyed my service in bed, so what?”
Leon’s answers riled Alaric up but, he quickly kicked the latter out of his room before Alaric could punch him again. He managed to dodge the enraged man’s fists.
Leon initially thought Alaric would return with the hotel’s security guards to throw him out. After all, this island belonged to Chairman Delaney, his maternal grandfather.
Fortunately, it didn’t happen.
“Hurm~ I should return home tomorrow.”
Clicking his tongue, Leon jumped to his feet, his steps echoing on the balcony. He left the rattan chair, heading closer to the balcony railing.
From the high angle, Leon swept his gaze around the beachfront of the hotel, looking disinterested. He recalled the chaotic time during the wedding ceremony.
Despite receiving scorn from the guests and punches from his childhood friend, everything was just as he wished for.
Breaking off Stephanie and Matthias’ engagement. That was Leon’s sole goal from the beginning.
Although, if he had to be honest, he initially thought that his plan would fail.
‘He did nothing so I thought he would still marry her. Turned out, he waited until the very last moment. Matthias is cruel indeed.’
Without anyone knowing, Leon himself orchestrated the plan to ruin the wedding. He acted extra careful because he didn’t want anyone, much less Matthias, to catch him.

Propping one elbow up on the railing, Leon supported his chin. A hint of trickery glinted in his eyes.
More than one month ago, Leon began sending vague messages to Matthias’ personal assistant, claiming Stephanie’s infidelity. He only did it twice but, he knew it was enough to make Matthias doubt his fiancee.
Leon waited for the news of Matthias and Stephanie’s wedding being called off. He was already prepared to step forward to coax the brokenhearted young lady.
Unfortunately…
The more time passed, the more anxious Leon became. Matthias showed no sign of canceling the union. As for Stephanie, she seemed happier every time he met her during their trysts.
Leon’s dreams to sweep Stephanie off her feet and be Matthias’ stand-in shattered. Despite being disappointed, he quickly comforted himself by changing the plan.
Stephanie wouldn’t end their affair just because she was Matthias’ wife legally. Leon knew how starved she was, craving a man’s touch in bed.
His next plan was to wreck their marriage.
Never once did Leon expect Matthias to call off the wedding right before the ceremony began, humiliating Stephanie by exposing her affair publicly.
‘Matthias Silvera. Won’t he come after me soon?’
Curling up his lips into a smirk, Leon didn’t mind Matthias’ revenge at all. He had already expected the Silvera heir’s wrath.
His family, the Holts was just below the Silveras but, this didn’t mean Matthias could easily trample on him in retaliation. Leon also believed that man wouldn’t waste his time on the likes of him.
“Now, should I give her another push?”
Fishing the phone out of his pants pocket, Leon’s deft fingers quickly typed messages meant for Stephanie. She had been quiet after their previous phone call[01].
[Leon: Seems like she’s involved in a big bad incident]
[Leon: I shall announce your involvement soon]
[Leon: My dear, my patience will run thin eventually. Give me your answer in 48 hours]
[Leon: I love you. Don’t miss me too much]
The right corner of Leon’s lips raised higher as malice flickered in his eyes. Slipping the phone back into the pocket, he let out a whistle.
Stephanie didn’t need to know that his plan—getting Lariette violated—failed, something Leon had already expected.
Leon knew who Joseph Brooks and Thomas Morgan were but, he had never approached them before. The drug dealer, his acquaintance, often mentioned them using drugs in hiding as they toured from one isle to the next.
The idea of using them came when Leon discovered Lariette planned to visit Lilybrook Isle. The information was easily obtained through a few checks.
Being one of the regular visitors, Leon made use of his knowledge of the bar’s layout once he arrived there. He disguised himself before marching toward the two friends, already set on the impromptu gamble.
“The Lilybrook Isle, tomorrow. Interested in a secret sex party?”
Leon didn’t care whether the plan was a success or not. He just needed it to shake Stephanie further and instill chaos in the Elsher family.
For he knew Declan and Rafael would step forward if Lariette indeed was in danger.
After all, that issue has been a sore spot for Stephanie as of late. She has been complaining about how Declan and Rafael seem to favor Lariette more recently.
Stephanie was afraid of losing her throne as the pampered princess in the Elsher family. Even though the changes were subtle, they affected her already.
‘They really went to rescue her. The old Dec and Ray wouldn’t bother at all. Now, now, my dear Phanie. You better give me a positive answer quickly.’
Letting out mocking chuckles, Leon turned around, walking away from the balcony. The bright sunlight sprinkled on his back as he disappeared inside the room.
By this time, Stephanie had already read the messages Leon sent to her minutes ago.
