Chapter 117: Returning Home
<.Lumina Spring.>
“It feels so good to be home~”
Lariette threw herself on the comfy couch once she reached the living room. Her chocolate brown hair was tousled by her movements before the luscious strands splayed on the couch.
Faint yet pleasant laughter escaped Ruediger’s lips as his emerald eyes followed Lariette’s movement. He put the wheeled suitcases in a corner near the entryway before wearing the home slippers.
“We only left for a few days but, you’re this excited to come back?” asked Ruediger with a hint of teasing. The eyes under his crimson fringes glinted softly.
Both of them had just arrived at Lumina Spring after the end of their island trip.
Instead of taking a cab, they returned to this apartment by riding the same van as Chairman Delaney. Madeline was also with them.
After a few days, most of Lariette’s minor cuts on her palms and feet had healed. Only a few red marks were left. She had stopped using bandages as well.
Lariette peeked from the giant pink strawberry pillow in her arms, staring at Ruediger, “Haven’t you heard? Home sweet home?”
More chuckles slipped out of Ruediger’s lips. Instead of sitting himself on any of the couches, he turned around. His destination was the kitchen.
“Here, drink some water.”
Ruediger returned shortly with two glasses of plain water. Lariette smilingly thanked him before taking a few sips. He settled himself on the chair across from her.
Neither of them spoke as they enjoyed the comforting silence.
Lariette threw her gaze out of the sliding doors, taking in the bright summer sky of the city. The time was still early, barely one in the afternoon.
Lariette vaguely recalled that she had a meeting at school this Thursday.
‘Oh… I should attend that one. I have missed a few before.’
The principal and a few of her colleagues regularly checked on her, which Lariette was grateful for. They didn’t push her to attend the summer activities after knowing she was caught in that accident.
“You have to rest well. Your students will come at me if they hear I force you to work,” was what Principal Smith told Lariette during one of their phone calls before.
Lariette was blessed with a healthy work environment. Principal Smith was a compassionate old teacher yet, he knew when to be strict when needed.
‘I heard we’ll get a new teacher after the summer break. Who will it be?’
Lariette received detailed reports about the meeting she had missed. One of the interesting things was the news about the new teacher.
Principal Smith hadn’t shared any details aside from the fact that the new teacher would be in the language department. It was the same one Lariette was in.
“Lettie?”
Ruediger’s voice, gently calling her, pulled Lariette’s attention from the sky to him. Arching her brows, she asked, “Yes, Eddy? Is there anything?”
Extending his long arm, Ruediger placed the empty glass on the coffee table. His eyes remained on Lariette as he spoke, “You said you don’t want lunch, right? Anything you want for dinner? I’ll go and buy some groceries later.”
Lariette mentioned to Ruediger once that she would forgo lunch today. Even if she was hungry, she would just pick some cookies or anything.
“Oh? You’re going shopping?” Lariette’s eyes widened slightly, seemingly interested in that, “You can just call for a delivery.”
Ruediger lived in this apartment only for a few days before Lariette brought him to the island. She had already stocked up the kitchen with fresh ingredients before he started living here.
“It’s fine. Grocery shopping is fun,” Ruediger shrugged with a lazy smile hanging on his lips, “I’ll go to the nearby mart. If you have any cravings, I’ll look for the ingredients.”
Ruediger had driven passed the said mart a few times already yet, he hadn’t had the chance to explore it. The name of the grocery store piqued his interest.

Blinking, Lariette tried thinking of any food she wanted but, nothing came to her mind. She quickly asked, “Can I follow you? I’ll be bored if I just wait for you at home.”
Lariette’s remarks earned laughter from Ruediger. They had just returned to this apartment yet, she was worried about being bored already.
“Sure. Let’s go together,” answered Ruediger, quickly agreeing with Lariette, “I plan to go there at four. What do you think?”
“Great! Hehe, I wanna take a nap first so, that’s perfect.”
Lariette’s exclamation softened the smile on Ruediger’s lips. He was beyond overjoyed to hear her offering to tag along for the grocery shopping.
Lariette and Ruediger didn’t stay any longer in the living room. She thanked him for washing the wheels of the suitcase before disappearing inside her bedroom. He did the same to his.
“Haa…”
Lariette let out a sigh as she emerged from the ensuite wardrobe. Hints of sleepiness were evident on her face. She left her suitcase unpacked, having no mood for it yet.
Lying on the bed, Lariette stared at her palms. Most of the cuts had vanished much to her relief. She no longer had to cover her hands and feet when showering.
Lariette was unconsciously reminded of the past few days spent in Azure Bay, especially the events of Stephanie’s ruined wedding and her experience in Lilybrook Isle.
‘Dec said he learned something but, he couldn’t tell me yet.’
Declan called Lariette yesterday, saying he uncovered something from his investigation. At the same time, he asked for her understanding because he was unable to give the details to her right away.
Frowning, Lariette recalled the slight anxiousness in Declan’s voice. He also sounded troubled as if he was stuck between placed.
Despite being beyond curious, Lariette didn’t press Declan for answers. She told him to tell her once he was ready but, she also said do not make her wait for too long.
“I’ll tell you soon, Lari. I just need some time to handle this.”
Lariette said nothing after hearing Declan’s remark. After hanging up the phone call, she couldn’t help but wonder what kind of matter he had unearthed.
