Chapter 128: A Charming Choice For Your Wife
After leaving the middle school, Ruediger was in no hurry to return to the apartment. He took his sweet time striding on the pedestrian roadside, slowly tracing back the path he walked on with Lariette earlier.
“I wanna get some lemon sorbet today.”
“So many people at the pool. Should we go somewhere else?”
“My grandma’s here this week. Wanna have tea time with us?”
Chatters from the people passing echoed in the air, mixing with the hum of the engines drifting down the roads. The neighborhood was more alive than half an hour ago.
Ruediger walked quietly among the passersby. His crimson hair caught the dazzling light showered by the summer sun, casting a sheen on his locks.
The temperature was slightly higher than usual but, bearable as the gentle breeze blew.
‘Her husband. Hehe, I like how that sounds.’
Joy flooded Ruediger’s heart as he recalled when Lariette introduced him as her husband to the three female teachers. He also remembered the slight, lovely blush on her cheeks.
Pausing his steps, Ruediger raised his left hand. He smilingly looked at the wedding band on his ring finger. The tiny sapphire glinted, its shine was reflected in his emerald eyes.
‘The important thing is, she feels better now.’
Lariette seemed happier after leaving Azure Bay. Ruediger was glad to see that. He was initially worried that the event on the isle last weekend would dampen her spirit.
Declan had handed the two perpetrators, Joseph and Thomas to the police. His people gave full cooperation to the authorities, including regarding the confiscated drugs.
Ruediger also heard from Lariette that Declan learned something new but, the man told her that he would reveal the issue once more clarifications were done.
For some reason, he believed whatever that man found was not something pleasant.
Pushing both hands into the pockets of his denim pants, Ruediger resumed walking. There was one place he wanted to drop by before reaching the apartment.
A flower shop.
Ruediger remembered the one near the grocery store he visited with Lariette the other day. The shop was mid-size but, seemed to offer a wide variety of flowers.
Ruediger half-walked and half-ran until he reached the flower shop. His footsteps blended with the other sounds in the surroundings.
The breeze carried the scent of blooming flowers, coming from the baskets of flowers outside the store. Vibrant and colorful blooms were visible from the floor-to-ceiling windows.
‘They’ll smell so nice in the apartment,’ Ruediger thought as he stepped inside the store. The faint chime of the doorbell above announced his arrival.
Once Ruediger was inside, he smelled the air, thickened with the fragrance of the petals with a hint of damp earth.
“Good morning, young man,” an elderly woman, most likely the shopkeeper greeted Ruediger with a warm smile, “How can I help you?”
“Good morning,” Ruediger returned the greeting. He gestured at the display of tulips in soft pastel hues, “I’m looking for some tulips for my wife. Also, roses.”
Buying flowers for his wife.
Indeed, it sounded very good. He hoped to see her face beaming upon seeing the fresh flowers in the vase.
“A charming choice for your wife. Does she love tulips?” the shopkeeper nodded approvingly, “These tulips are so fresh. They’ll look lovely in your home.”
“She loves tulips the most,” replied Ruediger as he watched the shopkeeper taking some of the tulips. Unable to resist, he added, “I got her tulips and roses when we got married.”
Soft laughter slipped out of the elderly woman’s lips. Holding the stalks of tulips in her arms, she said, “Your eyes lit up when you talked about her. She’s a really lucky lady.”
Blinking, Ruediger simply smiled at the shopkeeper. Her words brought another wave of happiness to his heart.

The shopkeeper took some roses in the colors of yellow and orange, requested by Ruediger. She bundled all the flowers into delicate parchment paper before securing them with a silky ribbon.
The tulips and roses in the bouquet complemented one another, enhancing their beauty. The sweet fragrance of the roses diffused in the air, gently enveloping the tulips.
“Thank you.”
Carrying the bouquet, Ruediger stepped outside of the flower shop after paying. He carefully cradled the flowers in his right arm as he resumed his walk home.
But…
The happiness on Ruediger’s face vanished the closer he reached the apartment. His emerald eyes sharpened as they landed on a man’s figure standing next to a car parked at the roadside.
The man was none other than Vincent.
Ruediger didn’t need to ask Vincent what led him to come here. He believed the latter would bring up his marriage with Lariette.
Most likely, Matthew had also finally learned about it, but, Ruediger didn’t care. That old man could be infuriated all he wanted yet, he wouldn’t ever care.
Without acknowledging Vincent verbally nor giving him another look, Ruediger continued walking toward the gate. He didn’t want to waste even one second of his time dealing with his younger brother.
But, as expected, Vincent had no intention to let Ruediger go easily.
How could he just give up when it was extremely hard to get ahold of his elder brother?
Their father was still enraged about his elder brother’s marriage to the Elsher family’s heiress. The former’s wrathful remarks still boomed in his mind.
Vincent had to come here himself because he didn’t trust his subordinates in getting the job done. Through some checking, he learned where Ruediger started living now.
“Father’s furious,” was Vincent’s first remark as he moved away from the car, striding toward Ruediger, “He knew about your marriage.”
Without pausing, Ruediger responded, his voice frosty, “I’ll marry whoever I want. No one will have a say in it.”
Frustrated, Vincent reached for Ruediger’s left arm, “At least, not the Elsher lady! You’re dead set on making Father angrier, don’t you?”
Ruediger quickly yanked his arm away from Vincent. Turning around, his sharp gaze fell on the latter.
Vincent unconsciously swallowed. Despite rarely seeing Ruediger, he couldn’t deny that his elder brother’s imposing aura could easily consume him.
When Ruediger spoke, his voice, brimming with suppressed anger sliced the air.
“You’re his puppet. I’m not.”
He had broken free from that man long ago.
