Chapter 131: Her Contract Husband’s Thoughtful Consideration
“Not even crumbs were left! Hehe, they even say they’ll eat everything you make later.”
Ruediger chuckled as he listened to Lariette talking about how her colleagues, including the principal, gushed over his desserts. They had just left the school after handing Bill his portion.
“I’m so honored, you know?” Ruediger said in between his laughter, the glint in his emerald eyes softening, “Seems like they’re impressed by Teacher Lariette Elsher’s new husband.”
“Hehehe,” Lariette chuckled, her smile cheeky, “Of course! All of them said I got married to a good man.”
Ruediger’s smile deepened upon hearing Lariette’s exclamation. What she said made him happy enough no matter what the true nature of their marriage was.
“I’ve made lunch. You shall eat before you rest or something,” said Ruediger once they reached the apartment. The air-conditioned lobby helped to chase the scorching summer heat away.
“Okay~ I’m hungry already,” Lariette patted her tummy, laughter still rolling out from her mouth, “All of the thinking made me famished.”
Ruediger purposely walked slightly behind Lariette as they approached the apartment unit, letting her unlock the door. His emerald eyes drifted to her figure, seemingly assessing her.
Lariette opened the door, pushing the panel inward. Her eyes slightly widened once they caught the fresh blooms sitting inside a vase, placed on the console table in the entryway.
“Eddy! Did you get these?”
Lariette’s question, evidently joyful elicited laughter from Ruediger. He finally stepped inside the apartment, seeing her standing opposite the console table.
Lariette gently touched one of the tulips before grazing the rose’s petals. After smelling the flowers, she turned to look at Ruediger, her sapphire eyes glimmering.
Indeed, getting the flowers was the right decision.
“I got them on my way back this morning,” Ruediger smiled softly, happy to see the beaming look on Lariette’s face, “I think the apartment will look lovelier with them.”
“Yes, it is! Hehe, thank you~”
Lariette smiled sweetly at Ruediger before once again admiring the fresh flowers. She appreciated how thoughtful he could be.
Urgh…
She didn’t mean to but, she suddenly remembered how inconsiderate her trashy ex-boyfriend was after seeing her contract husband’s effort.
Damien only bought Lariette flowers and gifts during the early phase when he began courting her.
Even during Valentine’s Day, Lariette was the one who prepared for the celebrations. Damien didn’t care enough about it, including their anniversaries and birthdays.
‘Haa… Don’t think about him anymore. He can just drop dead somewhere. I don’t care.’
Damien had started his new life in Chile. He was forced to begin from the bottom if he still wanted to secure his rights as Schuman Group’s successor.
Lariette believed Damien wouldn’t bother her ever again. Even if he did, that meant she could finally make good use of the recordings she got before[01].
Despite how gross the videos were, Lariette still kept them as a precaution.
“I got some for the living room too,” said Ruediger, his voice soft as if he didn’t want to interrupt Lariette’s peace, “Don’t just stay there. Our food will turn cold.”
“Coming~”
Lariette quickly followed Ruediger, her smile widening once she saw the flowers on the coffee table. The sweet scent of the roses infused the air, harmonizing with the air freshener.
After washing her hands and face, Lariette joined Ruediger at the dining table. Two plates of spicy honey-glazed grilled chicken and rice were served there, together with glasses of iced yuzu tea.
While having a meal together, Lariette shared more about the meeting with Ruediger. The man happily entertained her chattiness, even asking questions about several aspects of today’s discussions.
“You’re busy with your own work today, aren’t you?” asked Lariette after telling Ruediger about the school getting a new teacher soon, “Still, you have time to pick me up and cook lunch.”

“It’s not the busy period for me,” replied Ruediger without missing a beat despite how untrue his answer was, “My work is relatively not hectic in general.”
Lariette nodded her head in response while wondering what kind of job scope Ruediger had. He said he worked as an analyst but, she was not well-versed in the field.
After lunch, Lariette and Ruediger disappeared from the communal spaces. She went to her bedroom while he returned to his home office.
Before Lariette stepped inside the bedroom, she didn’t forget to admire and smell the flowers in the living room. Her mood inevitably turned better.
“En? A message from Dec?”
Lariette had just realized there was an unread message from Declan after changing her clothes into comfortable lounge wear. Sitting on the bed, she opened the text.
[Declan: Can we meet soon? You can decide the place]
Based on the message, Lariette believed Declan was finally ready to tell her whatever he had been holding back before. She didn’t immediately reply to his text, thinking of her future appointments.
“I’ll have dinner with Mr. Nathaniel and his parents tomorrow night,” Lariette murmured, her voice quiet as she recalled the arrangement, “And lunch with Grandpa on Saturday.”
After thinking, Lariette typed her replies.
[Lariette: Eddy and I will have lunch with Grandpa this Saturday. We can meet there]
[Lariette: If you can’t join, let’s meet this Sunday near my apartment]
Lariette received responses from Declan within a few minutes. The new messages were instantly displayed on the screen.
[Declan: I’ll meet you at Grandpa’s house this Saturday]
[Declan: He has to know too]
Arching her brows, Lariette tried guessing Declan’s recent findings yet, nothing came to her mind. After sending ‘OK’, she placed the phone on one side of the bed.
‘Oh ya… Do people still talk about the ruined wedding?’
The thought crossed Lariette’s mind as she leaned against the headboard, intending to watch some videos on the VibeTube using her tablet.
Lariette was never close to anyone who was active in high society, and so did Madeline. They were quite out of touch with the happenings that occurred among the elites.
Anyway, she didn’t mind what happened within the Elsher family due to Stephanie’s infidelity. She would rather spend her future days not worrying about them anymore.
Or so she thought.
