Chapter 152: Show How Dignified Her Father Is
<.Lumina Spring, the next morning.>
A figure in a casual green T-shirt and gray sweatpants moved through the living room with a mop in his hands. His wavy crimson locks were secured together into a bun, sheening under the light.
The clock pointed to a little over ten. The golden morning light poured through the large windows, casting warm hues inside. The indistinct hum from the outside was filtered through the glass.
Ruediger’s emerald green eyes swept across the space as he polished the floor. He had just finished vacuuming, ensuring every corner was spotless before picking up the mop.
Lariette was inside her study. She had an online meeting with a few of her colleagues. Her voice muffled behind the closed door.
“I bet you can’t sleep tonight too. Don’t be like that. You’ll scare Lorianne with your eye bags. Show her how dignified and handsome her father is.”
Ruediger’s voice, tinged with laughter, echoed in the living room. He was talking to Nathaniel on the other end of the line. The blue earbuds worn by him transmitted the sounds perfectly.
Nathaniel called Ruediger when the latter was vacuuming earlier. He rejected it at first, saying he would return the call once he was done with it.
A nervous yet delighted Nathaniel told Ruediger about his meeting with Elsie yesterday. He also brought up the lunch plan with Lorianne tomorrow.
Ruediger was earnestly happy for Nathaniel. Despite the misunderstandings between his friend and Elsie, both of them managed to untangle the confusing webs.
“I know…” Nathaniel exhaled a sigh, sounding slightly exhausted, “I’ve told Fabian not to bother me tomorrow. He’ll handle whatever schedule I can’t delay.”
Soft chuckles slipped out between Ruediger’s lips. The sound of hope coming from Nathaniel made him also pray everything would go well to his friend.
Elsie’s return was unexpected. Nathaniel and Ruediger also never foresaw news she brought—regarding Lorianne’s existence.
Ruediger paused from mopping. Adjusting the right earbud, he asked, “How’s your parents’ reaction? Did they ask to meet Elsie and Lorianne too?”
Ruediger heard Russell and Andrea were also surprised by the first and sudden contact initiated by Elsie the other day. Despite that, the husband and wife remained supportive of Nathaniel.
Certainly, Russell and Andrea, being loving people, welcomed the news related to Lorianne as well. The little girl would be their first grandchild.
Nathaniel’s voice continued buzzing through the earbuds as he replied, “Mom and Dad are happy. They wanna meet Elsie and Lorianne but, they plan to give us time for ourselves first.”
Ruediger hummed, understanding the meaning behind Russell and Andrea’s choice. Despite anticipating the reunion, they put Nathaniel’s best interest in their mind first.
“Aunt and Uncle decided it wisely. You yourself need to get used to Lorianne first. You can introduce her to your parents once she feels closer to you.”
Ruediger had seen Lorianne’s photos. The little girl was a carbon copy of Elsie, save for her brown eyes which resembled Nathaniel’s.
Through the photos, Ruediger could tell Elsie had taken good care of Lorianne. The little one looked happy and healthy. He also wished to pamper her as if she was his real niece.
Getting her gifts and making her yummy sweets. How good would it be?
Ruediger inwardly shook his head, telling himself to be patient. The day would surely come.
For now, Nathaniel needed to cultivate a good relationship with Lorianne. Ruediger believed Elsie would assist in that.
“I’ll bring some gifts for her,” Nathaniel said, laughing helplessly at himself, “I didn’t know what to get actually. I can only hope she’ll like them.”
The smile on Ruediger’s lips softened. As he spoke, only encouragement brimming in his voice, “She’ll be happy. She’ll get to meet her father after all. Have faith in yourself, Nate.”
Through Elsie’s action, Ruediger believed Lorianne only heard good things about her father, Nathaniel. If not, the lady wouldn’t directly approach her former lover to introduce him to their daughter after five years.
“I’ll share how my first meeting with Lorrie goes tomorrow. I gotta go now. Thanks for listening, Rudy.”
“Anytime. All the best, Nate.”
Nathaniel ended the call from his end, leaving a smiling Ruediger. Pulling out the earbuds, he slipped them inside the pocket of his sweatpants.

Ruediger stared at the mop in his right hand. His heart soared with joy for Nathaniel. With Elsie’s return and the surprising appearance of Lorianne, his friend’s life would only be better.
Resuming his task, Ruediger returned his focus on mopping. He still heard muffled sounds coming from Lariette’s home study. She had been at it since one hour ago.
Ruediger finished the last section of the floor. Setting the mop aside, he smiled in satisfaction seeing how spotless the apartment was now. The entire place smelled of floral fragrance.
“I better do that now.”
After storing the mop away, Ruediger rolled his shoulders to ease the slight stiffness from cleaning. He washed his hands in the toilet before making his way to the kitchen.
Ruediger got some fresh blueberries from the grocery mart yesterday. He intended to turn it into a pie—a special one just for Lariette.
Ruediger reached for a small beet from the vegetable drawer. He smiled seeing the deep color of it. He also retrieved a lemon. Its surface was cool against his warm palm.
“Flour… sugar, salt…”
Ruediger took out the flour bag, followed by the jars containing sugar and salt. After wearing the apron, he grabbed the wooden rolling pin.
‘I should make the beet juice first. Then…”
Ring!
The sudden ringing interrupted Ruediger’s thought process. Its sound sliced through the silence in the kitchen.
Arching his brows, Ruediger put the rolling pin on the kitchen island. He also ignored the beet waiting to be peeled and grated as he fished out the phone from his pants pocket.
Ruediger put the phone next to his ear once he accepted the call. His voice echoed quietly, “Edmund, you sure know when to bother me.”
The man named Edmund chuckled from the end of the line. He replied humorously, “Why? Is my boss busy cleaning the house again?”
Rolling his eyes, Ruediger told Edmund to wait. He quickly disappeared inside his bedroom.
