Chapter 159: The Part of Her That Resembles Him
‘I gonna meet Daddy.’
Lorianne chanted the same words throughout the night until she eventually drifted to sleep.
She couldn’t wait for the next day! She would finally meet her daddy!
All this time, she had only known him through the old photos her mommy showed, including the stories she was told.
Of how compassionate her daddy was and how he was the only man mommy loved.
Lorianne also remembered her nanny, Michelle, saying how many times Mommy rejected the handsome Uncle Carl and Uncle Ian because she only had Daddy in her heart.
No other men ever caught her mommy’s attention.
Nathaniel. Her daddy’s name was Nathaniel. Her mommy called him Niel but, Lorianne believed her mommy had other endearments for him.
Like how she was sometimes called ‘my dear’ or ‘my darling daughter’ by her mommy.
‘Daddy is like Prince Charming. Of course! Suit Mommy so much! Mommy is more beautiful than the most beautiful princess!’
Lorianne often thought of that whenever she looked at the photos. She loved seeing the pictures of her mommy smiling sweetly beside her handsome daddy. They looked like the prince and princess from her favorite fairytale.
Sometimes, Lorianne would touch her eyes, thinking how similar the color was to her daddy’s. Her nanny Michelle also said that and she also received praise from her mommy.
“Lorrie’s eyes are the same with Daddy’s, my dear. A warm and comforting brown color.”
Lorianne loved it when her mommy complimented her eyes. Her mommy usually kissed her head and cheeks, but sometimes she would give her a kiss over her eyes, too.
A part of her that resembled her daddy’s.
Lorianne woke up this morning with a heart full of hope. After carefully selecting which dress she wanted to wear today, she asked Elsie to style her long hair into twin pigtails.
She was nervous, but she wanted to look her best! Her heart beat quicker once they arrived at the restaurant.
“Lorrie, come.”
Lorianne was quiet as Elsie gently pushed her back to enter the private dining room. Her eyes collided with the tall man’s, seeing him towering over her before he crouched on the floor.
The man, her daddy, seemed to have trouble speaking. Lorianne wondered if his heart pounded heavily like hers.
“Hello, Lorianne. I’m Nathaniel. I am your… your…”
Her daddy paused, unable to speak his words properly. In her daze, Lorianne took a step forward, her eyes remaining on his face.
Was he really her daddy?
Despite recognizing this man from her mommy’s photos, Lorianne couldn’t help but feel doubtful. Her little heart was afraid all this was just another dream.
Parting her lips, Lorianne cautiously asked, “…Daddy? Lorrie’s daddy?”
He was her daddy, right?
“Y-yes… I am your father… Your daddy…”
Before her daddy could finish his words, she ran forward, throwing herself into his arms. She heard her mommy gasp but, all she could think now was hugging her daddy.
“Daddy! Waaa!”

The little Lorianne swore to herself not to cry, but she ultimately failed minutes after seeing her daddy. Her cries turned louder once she felt Nathaniel carefully cradling her.
“D-don’t cry, Lorrie… Hush, Daddy’s here.”
Elsie wasn’t the only one surprised by Lorianne’s action. Nathaniel was the same. He was almost caught off guard when the little one suddenly ran toward him, crying and calling him ‘Daddy’.
Still crouching on the floor, Nathaniel awkwardly but softly stroke Lorianne’s back. The little angel’s hair and body were soft and delicate, reminding him how young his daughter was.
How badly he wished to protect her from all the lurking dangers that existed in this world.
Oh, gosh… His tears also didn’t stop rolling down his face.
Nathaniel lowered his face, trying to hide from Elsie’s peering gaze. He felt her comforting touch on his back as he still hugged Lorianne. He also believed the lady’s eyes were not dry.
“Waaa! D-Daddy… Meet me now…”
Lorianne’s cries still filled the room. Elsie lowered herself down, crouching beside Nathaniel. They exchanged a helpless look followed by a faint smile.
Tearing his eyes away from Elsie, Nathaniel’s gaze returned to the top of Lorianne’s head. He caressed her back, his voice sounding cautious as he spoke.
“Lorrie… Won’t you look at your father?”
The little one sniffled, shaking her head repeatedly before she looked up, peeking at his face through her glossy eyes. Her chubby cheeks reddened, and so did the whites in her eyes.
“Da… Daddy…” Lorianne sobbed. Streaks of tears smeared her small face. Her tiny fists grasped the front of Nathaniel’s shirt, “Daddy… My daddy, right?”
The feeling of being held by her daddy was different than her mommy. Her daddy’s palms were much bigger and warmer. The similar thing was how secure she felt being cradled by him.
Lorianne’s question struck a chord in Nathaniel’s heart, suspending it from beating for a second. The little one sounded hopeful with the traces of doubts still lingering.
Nathaniel retrieved one hand from Lorianne’s back, his other still kept her position safe. Placing his palm on one of her tiny fists, he curled up his lips, trying to give her the sweetest and the most reassuring smile he could.
“Yes, I am your father,” said Nathaniel, his voice firmer this time. Without breaking their eye contact, he resumed, “Lorianne, Lorrie, I am your daddy.”
“Daddy… Daddy!”
Once again, Lorianne pressed her face to Nathaniel’s chest, leaving the wet marks of her tears on the shirt fabric. Despite seeing her still crying, he felt slightly relieved.
“Cry if you want, my dear.”
Whispering softly to Lorianne, Nathaniel tightened his hold on her little body before he slowly rose to his feet. She was as light as a feather.
Nathaniel couldn’t imagine how lighter and smaller Lorianne was when she was still an infant. One thing for certain was that she would be the most adorable baby he ever saw.
Elsie quietly followed Nathaniel’s movement of standing up. She patted Lorianne’s back, her lips smiling faintly as she sensed the little one shivering.
“Lorrie, Daddy has something for you and your mommy.”
Nathaniel’s eyes briefly glanced at the lavender bouquets as he whispered gently. Lorianne perked up, once again pulling her face away from her father’s chest, staring at him.
“Gifts for… hic… me and Mommy?” asked Lorianne, slightly hiccuping.
Smiling, Nathaniel nodded. He supported Lorianne with one arm before using the other to reach for the bouquets. He grabbed the one with the pink ribbon first.
“This is for Lorrie… and this one is for your mommy.”
Lorianne’s short arms reached for the lavender bouquet, her glossy brown eyes staring at the purple flowers and the adorable mini rabbit plushie nestling between the stalks.
“Mommy’s favorite flowers…” mumbled Lorianne, her words still audible to Nathaniel and Elsie, “Right, Daddy?”
“Yes. Your mommy’s favorite flowers.”
Nathaniel reached for the red ribboned bouquet, presenting it to Elsie. With a soft smile, he said, “Elsie, I picked these from the lavender garden I planted with you in mind. Finally… I got to give them to you.”
“…Niel.”
Elsie was robbed of her words. Her eyes widened with surprise flickering in them. Nathaniel’s smiling countenance was reflected in her eyes.
