Chapter 163: The Countless Blessings He Was Endowed Today
Nathaniel, Elsie and Lorianne left the restaurant after a fulfilling lunch. As proposed earlier, they decided to go to the nearby public park. The distance took around ten minutes’ ride by car.
Elsie suggested Nathaniel ride her car, leaving his vehicle near the restaurant. He quickly agreed despite worrying about causing her trouble.
With Lorianne perched on his arm, Nathaniel followed Elsie to where she parked the car. The low and extending branches kept the area cool, also providing shelter against the summer sun.
“Daddy, put me down.”
Lorianne wiggled once they reached the car. Nathaniel bent down, carefully lowering the little one to the ground. Elsie clicked on the key fob, unlocking the doors.
“Lorrie,” Elsie clapped her hands once after opening the car door, smiling at Lorianne, “Get in your seat now.”
“Okay, Mommy~ Mommy, please hold my flowers. Thank you~”
“Hehe, give it to me.”
Lorianne got into the car before climbing into the child’s car seat in the back. Nathaniel stared at the mother and daughter, just realizing his car lacked this.
If he remembered correctly, the laws mandated children of certain ages to be in child seat during a ride. Surely, Lorianne was within the age range.
“…I will get a child seat soon,” Nathaniel mumbled dejectedly after seeing Elsie strap Lorianne in her booster seat. His gloomy look expressed his self-dissatisfaction.
Understanding what Nathaniel was talking about, Elsie held back from laughing. She handed the lavender bouquet back to Lorianne before closing the car door. Her eyes landed on the man’s downcast face.
“Don’t be upset with yourself,” said Elsie, her voice still having the hint of laughter, “You didn’t know about Lorrie. I’m sure she’s eager to ride your car soon.”
Nathaniel smiled faintly, knowing Elsie was trying to cheer him up. Shifting his gaze from her to Lorianne, he saw the little one openly staring at them. She pressed her small palms on the window.
Chuckles slipped out of Nathaniel’s mouth. Waving at Lorianne, he couldn’t help but recall the very first moment he met the little one a few hours ago.
Nathaniel shifted his eyes from Lorianne to Elsie. His gaze caught the streaks of light on her face, coming from the light that filtered through the leaves above.
Even after years, she was ever so wonderful to him. Be it her radiant smile or the warm heart she owned.
Arching her brows, Elsie asked, “Do you have anything to say, Niel?”
Nathaniel pursed his lips, thinking Elsie was still the same. She was all too familiar with him that she could tell there was something in his mind.
“I just… can’t thank you enough,” said Nathaniel after a period of silence, his voice subdued, “I… I was so happy when we met a few days ago, but I am happier now.”
Nathaniel paused before taking a deep breath. He lowered his eyes, unable to look directly at Elsie, whose gaze remained on his face.
At this time, he felt as if only they and their child existed. The indistinct noise from the surroundings seemed to fade into nothingness.
Exhaling a soft sigh, Nathaniel resumed speaking, his voice low, “All of this… is indeed too sudden but… I mean, I never felt this blessed before. We met again, and… I also met our child.”
Nathaniel couldn’t stop himself from saying that to Elsie. It was not his intention to be emotional again in front of her, but that was all he could think about now.
The usually stoic and rational Nathaniel Faulkner was an emotional ball of a mess ever since he was reunited with his former lover, following the introduction of the child he had never known before.
Elsie curved her lips into a smile yet, it was a bitter one. Nathaniel’s guilt was evidently massive despite his looking fine on the outside.
Unconsciously clenching and unclenching her right hand, Elsie was hesitant before she gently reached for the sleeve of Nathaniel’s jacket. She tugged it once. The action was minor yet enough to get his attention.
“I am grateful and also happier, Niel,” Elsie spoke, enunciating her words properly. Her green eyes were locked onto Nathaniel’s brown ones, “I was anxious, but your acceptance reassured me.”
Nathaniel wondered how red his eyes were as they collided with Elsie’s. He could only hope he didn’t look as pitiful as before.
Lowering his gaze, Nathaniel glanced at Elsie’s fingers tugging at the sleeve of his jacket. He contemplated bringing her hand into his when…

Tap! Tap!
“Mommy, Daddy! Hurry!”
Blinking, Nathaniel abruptly looked up. Elsie also did the same. They saw a pouty Lorianne tapping her palms on the car window, her voice muffled by the closed door.
“Haha… Should we go now?”
Nathaniel laughed awkwardly before asking Elsie. He saw a helpless smile on her face.
“Let’s go. You should sit with Lorrie at the back, Niel. She’ll love that.”
“I will.”
Elsie released her fingers from Nathaniel’s jacket sleeve. They exchanged a smile before she rounded the car to the driver’s seat.
Nathaniel opened the car door, smelling the familiar scent of lavender. Ducking his head, he slid into the seat next to Lorianne.
“Yay! Daddy sits with me!”
Lorianne clapped her small hands, clearly elated to see Nathaniel with her. Her small face beamed with delight.
Lorianne’s antics softened the smile on Nathaniel’s lips. A thought crossed his mind as he admitted that he couldn’t count the blessings he had been endowed with today.
“Daddy, what can we play at the park?”
“Daddy, can I get ice cream and crepe?”
“Ah, want to hold this? Here! Miss Bunny will make Daddy happy ah.”
Elsie looked at Lorianne and Nathaniel through the rearview mirror. She chuckled seeing him awkwardly hold the little one’s plush bunny, offered by Lorianne herself.
Without saying anything, Elsie slowly drove away from the restaurant. The tires crunched on the gravels, the sound blended with the faint hum of the engine.
Lorianne’s chatters echoed in the car, intermittent with Nathaniel’s voice as he answered her curiosity. Once again looking at them, a satisfied smile curled on Elsie’s lips.
