Chapter 167: The Excitement of A Father
<.Wednesday, Lumina Spring.>
Lounging on the shell bean bag in the living room, Lariette quietly glanced at Ruediger. He stood by the balcony rail with one phone pressed to his ear, talking to Nathaniel.
The clock barely pointed to nine in the evening. Lariette and Ruediger were watching a night show together when he received a call from Nathaniel.
‘Are they talking about Nate’s daughter again? Also… Elsie?’
Lariette couldn’t help but think of that. Yesterday, she heard from Ruediger about Elsie’s return to Velondia, bringing along Lorianne. The little girl’s existence shocked everyone.
“Nate met Elsie last Sunday. She first revealed about Lorianne on that day. He went to meet the child at noon today.”
Lariette was in awe when Ruediger told her about Elsie and Lorianne yesterday evening. They were having tea time at the rooftop garden when he brought up the story.
Ruediger admitted that he didn’t know many details about Elsie and Lorianne yet. Nathaniel was too preoccupied in meeting them that the most he talked about to the former was about his worries.
Shifting her eyes from Ruediger’s broad back, Lariette absentmindedly watched the TV screen. Her mind wandered to the evening she visited Nathaniel’s cliffside villa for the first time[01].
Lariette only saw Elsie from the photos and also heard about her from Ruediger and Andrea. Despite her being away from Nathaniel’s life for years, traces of her remained.
‘She even showed up with a child.’
Smiling faintly, Lariette silently hoped that Nathaniel and Elsie could patch things up between them. Perhaps, they could form a harmonious family for their little one.
Even though Nathaniel and Elsie might not be together, that shouldn’t stop them from co-parenting the little Lorianne together.
Tap. Tap.
Lariette was awakened from her trance when her ears caught the familiar sound of Ruediger’s footsteps. Looking away from the TV screen, she turned to look in the direction of the balcony.
Arching her brows, Lariette couldn’t resist asking, “Nate talked about his daughter, huh?”
Ruediger turned around after locking the balcony doors. His lips curved into a grin, his emerald eyes glinting with quiet joy.
Raking his fingers through his crimson locks, Ruediger chuckled helplessly. He approached Lariette before settling on the couch next to her bean bag. The cushion sank under his weight.
“He talked about the renovations and makeovers. You remember? About Lorrianne’s bedroom and playroom. Also, child-proofing the villa. The work started this morning.”
“Oh! Yes! Hehe, he’s so excited. When will everything get done?”
Laughter escaped Lariette’s lips, her shoulders shook slightly. Ruediger’s words reminded her of what he just told her yesterday.
Nathaniel wanted Lorianne to feel welcomed once she started spending her time at his residence. Thus, he discussed with Elsie about renovating the two empty rooms and also ensuring the villa was safe for a child like Lorianne.
“Should be next week or the other,” Ruediger titled his head, recalling what else Nathaniel had just told him earlier, “Nate actually wanted it to be a full surprise. But, he changed it.”
Lariette’s focus remained on Ruediger as the man explained more about Nathaniel’s plan. The latter wished to bring Lorianne shopping for furniture and other items, hence the change in agenda.
For now, the two rooms would have minor renovations before being painted and decorated according to the little one’s taste.
Nathaniel commissioned the labor staff to change the built-in wardrobe to match Lorianne’s height, including the bathroom. The team also would recreate the reading nook for the child.
As for the playroom, Andrea suggested building a few playhouses, including a foam pit and a jungle gym. Nathaniel quickly agreed after being convinced by several videos on the Internet.
Because of the changes, the rooms wouldn’t be ready for Lorianne very soon. Nathaniel carefully selected a professional team that could provide him with good results.
The time provided, within two weeks at more, was more than enough for them.
Clapping her hands once, Lariette mused, “Lorianne will surely enjoy the shopping trip! Hehe, I bet her room will be the cutest. And, gosh! The playroom sounds so lovely.”

Nathaniel shared the video links with Ruediger. Lariette also watched them yesterday. All she could say was, that every child who got such a playroom would surely be overjoyed.
The smile on Ruediger’s lips deepened upon seeing the beaming look on Lariette’s face. She was happy as if she was the recipient of Nathaniel’s surprise.
“Won’t you go to bed yet, Lettie? We have to go out early tomorrow.”
Changing the subject, Ruediger reminded Lariette of their road trip to the north tomorrow morning. Their destination was Moonville Village. It would take them four hours through the expressway.
“Ah, you’re right.”
Lariette hurriedly stood up from the bean bag. Glancing behind her shoulder, she raised her brows, “No need to prepare any elaborate breakfast. I’ll make us some sandwiches.”
Ruediger shrugged, laughing in helplessness, “Because you wanna visit the rest area, en? For their food?”
“Bingo!”
Lariette fondly remembered the few times she stopped at one of the rest areas whenever she drove by herself to the north. She loved taking her sweet time to recharge her energy there.
The facilities at the rest areas were excellent. Most of them were used to promote the local area, including its specialties. The ones in the north were not an exemption.
Occasionally, Lariette took a train instead of driving there. Both gave her good experiences.
“Good night, Eddy.”
“Sleep well, Lettie.”
Waving at each other in the hallway, Lariette and Ruediger disappeared inside their respective bedrooms. The areas outside were dark, only faint lights illuminated the hallway.
Lariette threw herself on the bed after coming out of the washroom. Rolling under the blanket, a wide smile spread on her lips. Her eyes glimmered in the dark.
Tomorrow!
She would finally return to her hometown!
“I’ll introduce Eddy to Grandma,” Lariette whispered to herself, her mind wandering to Mrs. Evans’ gravesite, “Grandma will surely like him.”
Exhaling a sigh, Lariette felt the tears pricked in her eyes. She shook her head slightly, telling herself not to show a sad face when she visited Mrs. Evans’ grave.
Even though she had left this world, the beautiful memories of her remained.
