Chapter 187: Home Shopping Trip
The sedan glided down the asphalt road, its engine humming amidst the surrounding vehicles. The glass windows of the towering buildings reflected the sunlight, blinding in flashes.
Elysian Heights was no longer in sight as Nathaniel drove toward Zenith Haus. Elsie sat beside him while Lorianne was in the back.
The cheerful little one sang from the back seat, strapped to the pink booster seat. Her adorable singing voice echoed inside the car, causing her parents to smile fondly.
“Daddy, where are we going?”
Lorianne stopped singing, throwing the question to Nathaniel. She talked with a slight pause in between words, unhurried like usual.
Lorianne had been excited since the moment Elsie told her about going on a shopping trip with Nathaniel. She tried getting the answers, including showing her puppy eyes to her mommy, but she received nothing.
“You’ll know when you meet your daddy later.”
The little Lorianne gave up when Elsie remained mysterious about the shopping trip. Still, the lack of an answer didn’t dampen her excitement. She had been behaving a little bit better because of it.
Nathaniel glanced at the rearview mirror, seeing the evident joy on Lorianne’s small face. His heart thumped faster.
He couldn’t help but imagine how much happier she would be once they reached the home center.
“It’s called a surprise because I can’t tell you yet,” replied Nathaniel, his voice having a hint of teasing, “You’ll know soon, my dear.”
“Hmm… Okay.”
Lorianne pouted, not very satisfied with Nathaniel’s answer, but she didn’t push him anymore. The little one returned to singing, no longer pouting.
Elsie smilingly looked at the father and daughter’s interaction. One week had yet to pass from the first time Nathaniel and Lorianne met each other, but the relationship between them only had a lingering trace of awkwardness.
This situation put her heart at ease, even though… not completely.
‘We haven’t talked… about us.’
Nathaniel hinted to Elsie about his wish to talk about their current relationship. Unfortunately, they hadn’t found a suitable time yet. Their focus was more on Lorianne.
Despite everything, Elsie believed the time would eventually come. She was aware that Nathaniel wouldn’t simply let this issue go.
In ten minutes, Nathaniel’s sedan slowed down as he entered an intersection. The road opened up to a wide lawn with a huge two-story building standing in the middle.
“We’ve arrived,” Nathaniel declared, glancing behind his shoulder to look at Lorianne, “Lorrie, we’re here to get you things for your new bedroom.”
Lorianne gasped, “New bedroom?”
“Yup! Your new bedroom in Daddy’s house.”
A confused yet giddy Lorianne let Nathaniel carry her out of the car. He parked the car just right near the entrance before handing the key to the valet. A woman in a two-piece suit greeted them at the door.
“Welcome, CEO Faulkner. My surname is Higgins. I’m the manager of Zenith Haus. It’s our pleasure to serve you and your family today.”
Manager Higgins bowed slightly at Nathaniel, greeting him politely before doing the same to Elsie and Lorianne. She had been notified of the visit from the CEO of Faulkner Investment beforehand.
“Bring us to the children’s section,” said Nathaniel, his deep voice sounding formal and distant, “We’re looking for furniture for our daughter’s room.”
“Certainly,” Manager Higgins answered smoothly, “We have an entire section dedicated to children’s furniture. We have ready sets and custom sets, from materials to color palettes.”
Elsie arched her brows slightly, thinking Lorianne would definitely love what she would see here. She had looked up Zenith Haus on the Internet before, and found good reviews from its patrons.
“That’s good,” Nathaniel mused. He glanced at Elsie and Lorianne, “Time to go and see what you’ll love, Lorrie.”
“Okay, Daddy~” Lorianne chirped. She giggled adorably.

Manager Higgins smiled watching the family’s interaction. She raised one hand, gesturing in a direction, “Please follow me.”
“Yes. Lead us the way.”
Nathaniel and Elsie trailed after Manager Higgins, walking past the main entrance of the home center. A clean scent of something citrusy mixed with aquatic notes lingered in the air.
Lorianne was still perched on Nathaniel’s arm, her face was one of wonder. She darted her round eyes from here to there, finding everything inside the home center attractive.
The high ceilings and expansive glass walls bathed the showroom in natural light, blending with the artificial ones. The rays highlighted the sleek and modern designs of the furniture on display.
Soon, the family of three arrived at the children’s section.
The area was thoughtfully designed, showcasing the bed frames with built-in LED lights, sleek wardrobes with sliding glass doors and study desks with smart touch panels.
Most of the furniture pieces were designed adorably to attract the children’s attention.
Bed frames in the shapes of a giant cloud, a car and even a hut. Cabin-like wardrobes, rocket-like study desks; everything was beyond adorable and creative.
“Do you see anything you like?” Nathaniel asked softly as he lowered Lorianne to the floor. The little one continued looking around, grinning widely.
“Lorrie, you can take your time to choose,” Elsie reminded Lorianne, her voice having a hint of laughter.
“Hehe, okay, Mommy~”
Nathaniel and Elsie followed Lorianne as the little one walked around the area. She occasionally stopped, mesmerized by the pieces of furniture she saw.
Manager Higgins trailed from a distance while explaining about the furniture Lorianne showed interest in.
“Oh! I love that one!”
Lorianne suddenly shrieked, pointing to a modern, hut-style children’s bed displayed among the others. She hurriedly ran to the bed, almost jumping up and down on her short feet.
Nathaniel and Elsie glanced at each other before they approached Lorianne.
“An excellent choice,” Manager Higgins nodded approvingly, “This is one of our bestsellers. The default one is in white, but our clients can pick the colors from our catalogues.”
The frame was crafted from white-painted wood, featuring an open-roof structure. Its overall design gave a cozy, house-like appearance.
“This vertical wood looks something like a safety railing,” Elsie commented. She lightly touched the slat, “And, Lorrie can put her books and toys on the shelf.”
Nathaniel’s eyes followed where Elsie was pointing. The opposite side of the bed frame featured built-in shelves, very convenient for storage.
“Do you like this bed, Lorrie?” Nathaniel lowered himself, bending to Lorianne’s eye-level, “In which colors?”
Lorianne giggled, her little face beaming upon imagining having this new bed. Covering her mouth, she said shyly, “In white like this but… can I have little pink and purple too?”
Arching his brows, Nathaniel looked up at Elsie. The lady let out soft chuckles. She also crouched opposite Lorianne.
“That’s a nice color combo, Lorrie. Why don’t we look for your study desk and decide on the colors. We can make them match.”
Lorianne quickly nodded, happy with Elsie’s suggestion, “Okay, Mommy~ Let’s go! I will pick the biggg study desk!”
“Hahaha! Bigger than you?”
“Of course!”
A helpless smile was carved on Nathaniel’s lips. Standing up straight, he gestured to the area displaying study desks, “Come. We still have lots to choose from.”
“Yay!”
Lorianne ran forward, her pigtails swaying behind her. Nathaniel and Elsie shared laughter as they quickly headed to the little dashing dynamo.
Neither the gentleman nor the lady expected to be caught in an awkward position later because of the little one.
